My problems began very recently, and manifest themselves through constant rectal urgency. Colonoscopy revealed rectal ulcer, and biopsy confirmed SRUS. GI believes the problem is likely caused by a partial prolapse and is trying to treat it medically with a combination of Metamucil and Canasa.
My symptoms have improved some while on these meds, but this problem with a constant sour taste in my mouth has appeared.
Is it possible that my frequent UTI problem is due to my recent bladder suspension and rectal repair surgery?
Over the last 6 months to a year I have experienced intermittent diarrhea and rectal bleeding as well as occasional abdominal cramping. Rectal bleeding can occur without BM and will turn water red. Hgb dropped from 14.3 to 12.9 over 10 days. Most recent episode experienced diarrhea, bleeding, fever, severe cramping, weight loss, and anorexia. Initial stool cultures were negative. Colonoscopy revealed mild proctitis and grade I hemorrhoids.
During moderate/sever flare-ups I took prednisone orally, in foam suppository as well as mesalamine orally and through suppository. In moderate flare-ups mesalamine orally w/ mesalamine suppositories.
My question is - beyond the general risk that HSV presents - how additionally risky is this for me? It is a possibility that at some point I will have a flare-up that will require immonusuppressive therapy. If I was to contract HSV could my UC symptoms become more severe?

According to the mfg:
"The dosage of Mesalamine 500 mg suppositories (Generic Canasa) is one rectal suppository once daily at bedtime.
The suppository should remain inserted for one to three hours or longer, if possible. The normal course of therapy is from three to six weeks depending on symptoms and sigmoidoscopic findings".
So the 30 day supply falls within the recommended duration.
30 for no reason with strong chest pain, felt hot but no fever (walgreens thermometer marked highest 99 deg F for sublingual and 99.9 deg F for rectal. Each symptom lasted for about a week. I had lost appetite and lost around 10 lbs. The whole month of January was horrible. I felt depressed stressing this whole time about HIV.
I consult a gastro and go in for a colonoscopy first week of Feb. He found nodules on the sigmoid-rectal area.
Her gastroenterologist started her on Mesalamine (4 capsules daily) and later added prednisone 100 mg enemas to try and get the flare-up under control. Things are getting better and she has some of her strength back. There is one puzzling thing that the doctors are not able to pinpoint. This is an intermittent fever that starts in the afternoon and lasts to the night. In the morning the temperature is back to a low 97 degrees fahrenheit and stays stable until afternoon below 98 degrees.
My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
I have read about a study in which Boswellia was used in conjunction with Mesalamine. My gastroenterologist knows notheing about herbs, but is open to information that I can give her. What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?
A couple weeks after encounter I came down with severe headache in back of head and also extreme muscle twitching in calves and hamstrings, neck soreness, rectal discharge, body aches and joint pain, and rumbling in stomach. I was diagnosed with sigmoidal colitis in 2005, but I reckon that it went unchecked for about 4 years prior to that. I was initially treated with mesalamine (Asacol) but it had no effect. My GI guy then hit me with prednisone and that knocked it down. I have been on Asacol in a prophylactic capacity since (800mg tid). Does it keep me in remission. Maybe, but maybe it is the tremendous quantities of fentanyl, diacetylmorphine and morphine I abused as well for all I know :P.
Another thing I forgot to mention is I have been experiencing some rectal discharge and that is another reason why I know it is not in my head... I have never had these symptoms before and do not know if rectal discharge is a ars symtpoms or not..
There have been a few cases of liver failure possibly related to the use of mesalamine (the active ingredient in Asacol HD), but I haven't read anything about fatty liver as a side effect.

I had a bladder suspension 6 years ago and to my knowledge I had no problems up until now..
In the last 3 months I have had 2 severe bladder infections to the point where my blood pressure went super low.
this last one put me down for 3 days..sleeping body aches fever etc. I have never been a sickly person so I question if the suspension could be the problem.
I see that so far you are told you need a suspension of the top of your vagina. In the USA some Urogynes would be able to do all prolapse ops including possibly your rectoplexy, however, I am sure you will make the best decision as to what you choose to do.
She again had colonoscopy and histological examination inferred that it was ulcer. She is being treated with Mesalamine and now she is well. Please check with your doctor.

nonstop rumbling in stomach, node pain in arm pits and in groin area, headaches, muscle spasms in calves which are severe at times, rectal discharge... there are just so many and have been consistent for a year despite the negative tests out to 9 months... I mean are there no documented cases of it takin this long to test positive?
