During moderate/sever flare-ups I took prednisone orally, in foam suppository as well as mesalamine orally and through suppository. In moderate flare-ups mesalamine orally w/ mesalamine suppositories.
My question is - beyond the general risk that HSV presents - how additionally risky is this for me? It is a possibility that at some point I will have a flare-up that will require immonusuppressive therapy. If I was to contract HSV could my UC symptoms become more severe?
My problems began very recently, and manifest themselves through constant rectal urgency. Colonoscopy revealed rectal ulcer, and biopsy confirmed SRUS. GI believes the problem is likely caused by a partial prolapse and is trying to treat it medically with a combination of Metamucil and Canasa.
My symptoms have improved some while on these meds, but this problem with a constant sour taste in my mouth has appeared.
Over the last 6 months to a year I have experienced intermittent diarrhea and rectal bleeding as well as occasional abdominal cramping. Rectal bleeding can occur without BM and will turn water red. Hgb dropped from 14.3 to 12.9 over 10 days. Most recent episode experienced diarrhea, bleeding, fever, severe cramping, weight loss, and anorexia. Initial stool cultures were negative. Colonoscopy revealed mild proctitis and grade I hemorrhoids.
They have prescribed me a suppository called a Rectal Rocket. They have to be made by a Compound Pharmacy. These have made my life soooooooooooo much easier. I use them at bed time and they work on the inside as well as the outside of the rectum. Quite large, but worth it.
Granted, I still have had my share of discomfort and episodes, but they really help. I also found that using good old A & D Ointment really helps as well. it should, it's made for baby's.
causes for rectal pressure?
I've have a healthy history- no ongoing physical complaints. No medications. I've had a hemmorrhoid near the opening of my rectum for years, usually doesn't bother me. Last 10 days, I've experienced rectal pressure. If I use a PREPARATION H SUPPOSITORY before bed, first thing in the morning there is an approxiately 2 oz. bloody rectal discharge which looks similar to menstrual blood and tissue.
s say about an hour or so after I insert the suppository I need to go to the bathroom (#2) will the suppository come out and if some of it does would I have to replace it? Also, how far should the suppository be inserted?
I am 43 yo female. About 1 year ago, I started having an itch around the rectal area. Just one area, and pretty mild, but bothersome. Went to MD, gave me fungal/steroid cream.I had been using Canasa suppository for mild proctitis( had colonoscopy in 2008), and I just thought it was the leaking of the suppository that caused the itch. I used the cream for a year, on and off. About 2 months ago, I noticed that it was more bothersome.
The syptoms of that would include itching and burning.Try a rectal suppository next time and see it that helps.
If the failure did occur after a rectocele repair, then you might look at having an abdominal sacralcolpopexy performed by a fellowship trained urogynecologist or pelvic surgeon. If the problem was a rectal protrusion through the anus, then you might need to have the rectum pulled back up via an abdominal incision. THis is called a rectopexy, and is usually performed by a colorectal surgeon, preferrably fellowship trained.
My 4 month old son only, excuse me, but poops with a suppository. He was 34 hours before passing maconium, jaundice for that didn't peak until day 12 of life, and his feces has always been yellow with mucous and what looks like small curds of cottage in it. He was primarily breastfed until 3 months old. Before that he was on formula for 1 week to see if that produced anything, but no luck. We have tried malt suppliments, prune juice, karo syrup, and an oral laxitive, but still nothing.

I have visited a gastrologist and i was diagnosed with internal hemorrhoids the only thing issued to me were suppository. i was told that it was not a serious problem it could be cured easily..but once my prescription stopped problems persist..i got three refills and all of them are up it seems as if i don't function right without them.therefore rectal bleeding and hemorrhoids still exist. Does this explain my lower back and lower abdomen pain on my right side?
I am having symptoms of homorhoids. But the swelling is very much less. The rectal areas feels very tight and closed. Should i consult a doctor or it will go away? It was present for quite a few days but it is feeling much intense now.
if I had not started passing soon they were going to do a suppository...thankfully I was taking a nap when the nurse came in to do the suppository, but I had already gotten things moving with all the walking and prune juice so no suppository needed!:)
I was so afraid I would have accidents that I had pads for my panties, pads for the bed and diapers granted I was travelling out of state so I wanted to be well prepared..I ended up not needing any of it...
30 for no reason with strong chest pain, felt hot but no fever (walgreens thermometer marked highest 99 deg F for sublingual and 99.9 deg F for rectal. Each symptom lasted for about a week. I had lost appetite and lost around 10 lbs. The whole month of January was horrible. I felt depressed stressing this whole time about HIV.
I consult a gastro and go in for a colonoscopy first week of Feb. He found nodules on the sigmoid-rectal area.
I passed a very large and impacted stool 2 weeks ago and the next day had trouble sitting without a lot of pain. went to the doctor 4 days later and he said i had an inflamed rectum. prescribed a steroid suppository (5 days) and it was feeling pretty good but didn't feel 100% cured on the last day of the drugs. 4 days after the drugs were done, i called him to say I had seen some recovery but the rate of recovery had leveled off or reversed and was getting more sore again.
I have been dealing with hemorrhoids for years sadly and the only thing I've found that helped was witch hazel wipes. They help with the itching and burning. I haven't found a way to get rid of them butmy drDr did pprescribe me a suppository(?) To help with them.
Her gastroenterologist started her on Mesalamine (4 capsules daily) and later added prednisone 100 mg enemas to try and get the flare-up under control. Things are getting better and she has some of her strength back. There is one puzzling thing that the doctors are not able to pinpoint. This is an intermittent fever that starts in the afternoon and lasts to the night. In the morning the temperature is back to a low 97 degrees fahrenheit and stays stable until afternoon below 98 degrees.
im a female 20 years of age. for the past 6 months or so ive been having some rectal bleeding streaked down stool and a light red in colour also when i wipe i find it on tissue paper,this is not everytime i go to the toilet but sometimes. this is accomanied by a really sharp pain. My stools are medium or light brown in colour and somrtimes look greasy sometimes quite hard but sometimes quite soft.
Its very common for breastfed babies to only go like once a week but if you are concerned you can try checking a rectal temp (to stimulate the sphincter) bicycling the legs, and gentle massage on the tummy. Never use a suppository or enema in a baby that young unless directed to by your pediatrician.
