During moderate/sever flare-ups I took prednisone orally, in foam suppository as well as mesalamine orally and through suppository. In moderate flare-ups mesalamine orally w/ mesalamine suppositories.
My question is - beyond the general risk that HSV presents - how additionally risky is this for me? It is a possibility that at some point I will have a flare-up that will require immonusuppressive therapy. If I was to contract HSV could my UC symptoms become more severe?
ve been taking Crinone 8% suppositories once a day for the past 2 weeks but my OB changed my Rx (due to insurance issues) to Progesterone 100mg (generic for prometrium) 3 times a day which I take orally. I just started the progesterone yesterday and my question is... Is it better to take the Progesterone pills vaginally instead? It's a small round peach pill with a gel coating. I'm so afraid of my levels dropping due to the change of meds and change in the way it's administered.
Her gastroenterologist started her on Mesalamine (4 capsules daily) and later added prednisone 100 mg enemas to try and get the flare-up under control. Things are getting better and she has some of her strength back. There is one puzzling thing that the doctors are not able to pinpoint. This is an intermittent fever that starts in the afternoon and lasts to the night. In the morning the temperature is back to a low 97 degrees fahrenheit and stays stable until afternoon below 98 degrees.
I have my good days, but for the most part a lot of bad days and the questan oh btw I have the generic form (cholestyramine powder 4 grams twice a day. help some just not much as with all meds they have put me on they don't help me all the time and the pain I go thru when I have an attack is so unbearable at times I feel like I could pass out from it. Trudie what is expected with a disease like this?? yes I have read all the info i have been giving and found on medhelp and so forth.
If she is not having normal bowel movements, she can get quickest relief by taking MiraLax at night and using a glycerine suppository to get things moving. Also she could try a gas medicine (simethicone is the generic name), but that won't be as dramatic as getting her bowels moving.
My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?

I have read about a study in which Boswellia was used in conjunction with Mesalamine. My gastroenterologist knows notheing about herbs, but is open to information that I can give her. What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?

When I was on it, I looked it up and found that it is the generic form of Asocal enemas. So is Pentasa. They are all different names for Mesalamine. So they should all be the same formula and work the same. I know from experience that sometime the brand works better than generics, but thought I would share this information with everyone.
You are well past the point that prune juice or miralax or even a suppository will help. Please call for an appointment to be seen right away (no it's not an ER situation).
To the other ladies who I am hoping are not in such dire situations - increase your fluid intake, stay active (lots of walking), and take a stool softener like Colace (generic name docusate sodium, any store brand with this name will work the same) daily.

I was diagnosed with sigmoidal colitis in 2005, but I reckon that it went unchecked for about 4 years prior to that. I was initially treated with mesalamine (Asacol) but it had no effect. My GI guy then hit me with prednisone and that knocked it down. I have been on Asacol in a prophylactic capacity since (800mg tid). Does it keep me in remission. Maybe, but maybe it is the tremendous quantities of fentanyl, diacetylmorphine and morphine I abused as well for all I know :P.
I am pregnant (week 5) and have some brown discharge and sometimes bleeding also. my progesterone is 28.9. doctor suggests me progesterone suppository . is my baby safe or i have complications in my pregnancy?

I am going to ask her if we can add suppository progesterone to my cycle this month ... she is going to send me to U of M fertility clinic but I know that if I have the suppos. the pregnancy will take - i keep "feeling" pregnant for a short time and then i wake up one day and all symptoms gone and then i get my period .

In general over the counter laxatives are not encouraged- esp miralax and milk of magnesia. Some providers will prescribe them only when absolutely nothing else has been effective. Prune juice and apple juice are natural and effective ways to deal with constipation. Increasing your walking and water intake, along with fiber can also help. Although definitely make sure you drink lots of water with the extra fiber, as too little water will bind you up further.
I just remembered that I'd used a lot of generic KY Jelly type gel to insert my Prep H. suppository late last night so the clear mucus this a.m. was most probably THAT with the tiny dots of blood.

Hi people! Perhaps it is a stupid question, but it annoys me. I'm HIV+ gay and have anal sex with men. I have hemmorhoids and use suppository 'Relief' to treat them. Often I have receptive anal sex only 1-2 hours after having used a suppository.
Some suppositories have a side-effect, and it is mentioned in their description - "using with condoms may cause condom failure".
