Asacol for colitis

Common Questions and Answers about Asacol for colitis

asacol

Avatar f tn Many, many people have taken Asacol without any side effects. I had Ulcerative colitis for 10 years before surgery and never had an issue. The goal is to protect the colon from creating long term damage.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info...I was getting too anxious for the Asacol to work as this is day 5. I was worried that it could be Crohns Disease as My Brother died from Crohns. My Dr. said my Blood Markers did not show for Crohns...however, I am waiting on test results for Celiac. I appreciate your time, Thank You.
Avatar f tn s under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
Avatar m tn Ulcerative colitis treatment usually involves either drug therapy or surgery. Some drugs that work well for some people may not work for others, so it may take time to find a medication that helps you. If diet and lifestyle changes, drug therapy, or other treatments don't relieve your signs and symptoms, your doctor may recommend surgery. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
277836 tn?1359666174 Now he wants me to start on a 40mg prednisone course thats 8 pills a day for two weeks Then 7 pills a day for two weeks and on and on then if my problem isnt under control I go on it for 2 years straight . I am already depressed and I know that being on this isnt good for that. Also moonface can I expect that? Is there a way to avoid it? Could this be something else besides ulcerative colitis ? How sensitive is this test he had done (false positives) ?I am 33 years old.
1483944 tn?1288100910 IBS and Crohn's are extremely different. There really shouldn't be any confusion in diagnosing between the two. The problem at times is diagnosing between Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis as they are parts of a continuous spectrum of the disease. Crohn's is an auto-immune disorder that can occur anywhere from your esophagus to your anus. The location and extent of inflammation and ulcers often are what lead to one diagnosis or another.
Avatar f tn I have lupus and deal with diarrhea everyday. I take an herb that has been a tremendous blessing. It's called Slippery Elm. It coats he entire digestive tract. I take one/daily as a maintance. But on occasion, the symptoms are overwhelming. I'll take (2) several times a day for those stubborn flare-ups. My heart really goes out to you as I know how this can alter a person's life. I'm not familiar with the medicine you spoke of.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the answer. We are trying Asacol to get it under control. Gastroenterologist says it is crones. We will continue to look at options once symptoms are under control. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Avatar m tn I eat pretty much everything, but for some reason I get irritation from roasted meats--almost instantly. Watch out for dairy aswell, as lactose is difficult to digest and can cause problems in a sensitive colon.

Avatar n tn I was wondering if it was common for pregnant women to get colitis while pregnant. I am 29 years old and 7 months pregnant. This all started when I was 5 months. I had some Indian butter chicken for dinner and the next day I had the runs. From there on it never stopped. It started with strange pain in my intestines and my doctor thought I might me lactose intolerant. But the tests were negative. Then we did parasite and bacterial stool samples and all neg. as well.

1019152 tn?1336074292 I recently had a colonoscopy and found out I had colitis .I dont know what kind yet, but it seems like it started shortly after I started my medication. I did have some anal bleeding before that also. I found out I also had hemmoroids. The bleeding started about a year ago and I just assumed it was hemmoroids but it recently got worse over the last couple of months since I started on a new heart medication. Its been that frequent having to rush to the bathroom. So I went to a gastro. doctor.
Avatar n tn I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.

Avatar m tn CalGal, Final diagnosis of colonoscopy 1) Ileum biopsy: small intestine mucosa w no significant histopathologic findings. 2) Random colon biopsy: colonic mucosa w mild chronic inflammation of the lamina propria. Microscopic description said everything was normal except for "there are areas w a mild increase in stromal inflammatory cells, predominately lymphocytes. Intraepithelial inflammatory cells are not increased".
