armour-thyroid

1716230 tn?1313581933 I recently had some bloods done and results came back as: TSH 0.55, T4 9.0 and T3 6.3. I was originally on 200mcg of Levothyroxine back in February this year when I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism - TSH was 35 then. Had lots of problems with Levothyroxine and GP refused to refer me to an endocrinologist as my TSH had come down to 6.7 which he said was normal.......NOT!
Avatar f tn I am wondering about armour thyroid as I have actually taken it before, albeit not very successfully, as a few years ago I saw Dr Peatfield in the UK as I suspicioned that my symptoms were caused by my thyroid. He started me on armour and after 2 weeks on 2 grains I noticed a definite improvement - my head felt clearer and I no longer needed to sleep in the afternoons. But it only lasted a few days and then I was back to square one again.
Avatar f tn First - thyroid supplementation is for an underactive thyroid, bot an overactive thyroid. Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar f tn Please help me find Armour Thyroid to buy! Was on it and doing so good and now they say they can't get it. Is there anywhere to get it or something identical to it? I was on it and doing so great and now I'm not. I can't take that other stuff and stuff is what it is, please help!
765572 tn?1234697366 This is not a site I'm familiar with, at all. According to the site, the products are produced in the U.S and the E.U; however, they are shipped from Hong Kong; therefore, I'd be extremely leery if I were really getting what I order. Also, when I tried to look at the Armour, the page kept taking me to NatureThroid, so it looks like they don't really have Armour. I saw some good reviews and some poor ones.
Avatar f tn And armour I have sent for is recommended on another very well known site it is not from uk. If you know of any doc in this area then I would be grateful I may give mine one last go I am due for tests soon so might try and request ft3 ft4 and tag and ask them for switch to armor .
Avatar m tn In the USA at least, all hormones including thyroid hormone(s) T4 (Synthroid) and T3 (Cytomel) and Any natural desiccated thyroid med like Armour require doctor Prescription. To dose thyroid you absolutely need to be tested for at a minimum Free T4 and Free T3 tests. Typically people need to be at least in the middle of the reference range for BOTH thyroid hormones if not a bit higher int he range.
1691030 tn?1306069524 Been going to physical therapy for the past 5 months. Finally freaked out at my Endo and demanded he give me Armour, natural thyroid after months of tests and research I discovered that Gerneric Levothyroxine inactive ingredients are terrible! He would not switch me to Armour. But he changed my med to Synthroid Brand Name which has way many less inactive ingrediants. and most of them are natural products not chemicals. That was on 4/15/11.
Avatar f tn If you plan on starting your day at 830 AM in the UK, and will be in the UK for a few days - week, i would take it at 830 AM UK and then every morning at 830 AM UK while you are there.
781069 tn?1236000291 I have felt better on the Armour but my Endo and GP will not prescribe it so I would have to buy it for the rest of my life. I want to give the combined Liothyronine and Levothyroxine another try as this is free and will save me heaps of money. But I would rather feel well and pay for it than feel lousy and get the meds for free.
Avatar m tn 1st welcome. 2nd you said you are in the UK and others on this site have described issues with the national health care in the UK and getting proper treatment so you are going to have to be VERY patient and persistent and you may have to do a lot of educating of yourself. Next I would ask if at all possible to get a copy of the blood lab results. In the USA the Dr's must by law provide the patient with a copy but I don't think that is true in the UK.
1716230 tn?1313581933 I normally see an endo in Germany as I am not satisfied with treatment for thyroid disorders here in the UK. Levothyroxine is the ONLY med available. Since switching to Armour earlier this year, I feel great, my depression has gone. GP here and my cardiologist wanted to put me on anti-depressants. I told them where they could put their diagnosis.

4764932 tn?1359844198 Hey ourmarnie. I had pacific beach sand therapy last week. Good for the feet and the soul! lol! For Plantar faciitis: Prolotherapy a few injections but not too spread apart, Sombro natural analgesic, containing capsaicin, aloe vera and herbs. Stretching, massage and icing help as well. For getting a script for Armour do a search for "thyroid UK" and contact them for a thyroid friendly doctor open & willing to help you.
Avatar f tn If you took the Armour before the blood test, it would show a falsely high FT3, though FT4 result wouldn't change because of the long 1/2 life of the T4 in the Armour. Your latest blood work shows TSH too high, but some people are okay with higher than normal TSH. Your FT4 is at the very bottom of the range, which is not good, and FT3 is only slightly above mid range. Looks like you might need a slight increase in dosage.
Avatar f tn My understanding is that in the UK, like many other areas, you cannot obtain thyroid meds without a prescription. So you are going to have to prevail on your doctor to accept that TSH is affected by so many variables that it is totally inadequate as the sole diagnostic for thyroid issues.
Avatar f tn Also, have you had any thyroid tests besides TSH? TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected buy so many variables, that it is inadequate as the sole diagnostic for thyroid. You really need to be tested for the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 every time you go in, along with the TSH.
Avatar f tn The newer Acella NP thyroid, similar to original armour and erfa, can be ordered at walmart, walgreens and target. If I were you, thats what I'd try.
Avatar f tn After pratically begging my Doctor to switch from Levothyroxin to Armour, he finally wrote a script for it. I'm saying up front that I was taking 125mcg of Levothyroxin an i'm miserable. My dad takes Armour and he said he would never go back to synthethic. My dad has absoutely no Thyroid and is currently on 2 grains of Armour.
