Avatar n tn I have been steadily gaining weight since she prescribed cortef 10mg and Armour thyroid 30mg 2x day with continued fatigue and exhaustion. After several years, I was informed if there may or may not be underlying thyroid conditon. I struggle with many other potential symptoms such as fatigue, cold extremities, dry skin. My endocrinologist does not want to try me on synthroid. She firmly believes in Armour.
Avatar n tn However, I have just discovered in the last two months that I am also a coeliac, and I have had ME and fibromyalgia for about six years also. My GP did recent blook tests and my thyroid is a little weird. My T4 was high, but normal at 21.5, my T3 was double normal values at 13 and my TSH was 0. My GP didn't give the free values, which I have asked for but I am wondering what it means.
Avatar f tn I mock Hodnad alot now too. I am slowly losing weight - no more joint stiffness and doing very well emotionally since lowering mu TSH and going on Armour thyroid. I believe it is a process of getting well after you have been "sick" for so long. Your body needs time to heal on the right dosages of meds and supplements. not a quick fix I may add - at least for me.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Synthroid for the last 27 years and for the last 6 years 137mgs. I was recently switched to Armour as I have had constant fatigue and body aches for those 27 years. The equivalent of 137mg is 120mg of Armour and because my body has been used to the 137mg for so long I was put directly on 120mg of Armour there was no taking it slow as I have been reading. Is this normal practice when you have been on a thyroid med for so long and then switch?
Avatar n tn I've been on Armour Thyroid and a little synthyroid for a while now and my muscle pain and trigger points have gotten much worse. I can barely stand or walk by the end of the day. My doctor just said I have fibromyalgia and gave me flexeril. What is the relationship of thyroid and or adrenals to muscle tightness and pain?
Avatar f tn I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I have some osteoarthritis and have had a hip replacement 4 yrs ago, in the last year I have becomed very fatigued, muscle pain especially in arms, shoulder area, hands and feet, I have very little energy to go to gym anymore, I heard that 50% of people with fibromyalgia also have low thyroid, even though my thyroid test shows normal, could thyroid medication help?
Avatar f tn After taking Armour thyroid for over 20 years for a thyroid nodule, I was changed to Synthroid because my TSH was too low. Now I have extreme fatigue, intolerance to cold, pain in my ear, a full feeling in my throat on the side of the thyroid nodule, a feeling of not getting a full breath, weight gain of over 30 pounds in the 2 years I've been on the synthroid. I used to do one hour of exercise at the gym 3 times a week and now can hardly do 30 minutes.
Avatar m tn //www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ and am going to ask my doctor to switch me to the Armour natural thyroid meds to see if it helps. You are on the synthetic as well. Good luck with everything!
Avatar f tn I recently changed from sustained-release T3 to Armour Thyroid. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and I did okay on the T3 - not well, but better. I went to a new doctor and she wanted me on T4 as well so switched me to Armour and I have had so much leg and all over muscle pain. I wasn't sure if it was the Armour or what but it is much more pain than I have ever had (and different pain) even though I always have muscle aches, this is even more intense and constant.
881676 tn?1252665676 Is your doctor testing your free T3 and free T3, as well as TSH? FT3 and FT4 are the two main thyroid hormones and much more important than TSH in determining thyroid status. If you doctor has been prescribing and adjusting dosage based on TSH alone, you need to have FT3 and FT4 done right away, Adjusting the dose of any thyroid medication takes a lot of time and trial and error. Looking at your TSH history, you were never adjusted to the proper therapeutic level.
Avatar f tn s the autoimmune system erroneously identifies the thyroid gland as foreign to the body and produces antibodies to attack and eventually destroy the gland. Along the way, the output of thyroid hormone is gradually diminished and has to be replaced by thyroid medication. At this point it also seems that your doctor has way over medicated you. When already taking thyroid med, TSH is basically a useless test; however, both your Free T3 and free T4 are over their ranges.
Avatar f tn I am feeling extremely exhaused, have nonrestorative sleep, pain and achiness in joints and muscles, moodiness, hormone fluctuations and irritability. I am 55 years of age and take lithium for bipolar disease and armour thyroid for hypothyroid. What does this extremely hight level indicate?
Avatar f tn From what I have read, if I were you I would be looking into bio-identicl hormone therapy if you are taking synthetic hormones and I would also be looking at natural desiccated thyroid.
999838 tn?1299103020 I have been diagnosed with Lupus and Fibromyalgia. I was started on Armour Thyroid after the 5.12 reading. My T3 levels were 3.8. What is going on and how much do un-medicated thyroids fluctuate? Is this a huge jump from 3 months ago to now?
798555 tn?1292787551 I get the tightness in the upper chest area when I take even small doses of armour. I am low on T3, while on synthroid, my doc switched me to levoxyl and armour. I have hashi's and adrenal fatigue and sleep has always been my main problem. Lack of sleep pushed me even deeper into adrenal fatigue. The funny thing is, when I do take some armour, my sleep quality improves slightly, quite puzzling, you think you would have the reverse effect.
Avatar n tn I found out I had low thyroid since being here and Ana test positive. I saw a Rhymotologist yesterday and he ran more test and will let me know Thursday. Have any of you had the hot hands and swelling on extremities. I have had Fibro for years, but never these problems. I feel really worn down...so frustrating.
Avatar n tn Really bad fibromyalgia, heart palpitations, and weight gain. Eventually I switched to Armour and Synthroid, then Armour only, then Naturethroid, then finally NP Thyroid by Acella. It seems to work the best. It is hard to tell you where to start exactly when it comes to switching. All I can suggest is you start at 30mg and slowly increase. If you find you have a bad reaction, DO NOT get discouraged. You can't hurt yourself from taking too much Desiccated Thyroid.
Avatar f tn I took synthetic hormone for years and still had the all problems you mentioned as well as brain fog (feel stupid and forgetful). Didn't improve till I started taking Armour Thyroid. You may have to look around to find a doctor who will prescribe it for you, but its worth it once you get to a dosage that works for you... it's very individual.
Avatar f tn i am currently taking 60mg of armour thyroid in the am and 60 mg of armour thyroid in the evening. I suffer from both chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. It seems that my thyroid symptoms fluctuate frequently. Most recently I experienced a small weight gain, hair loss (mild), lighter periods, greater fatigue and more aches and pains. The most recent labs are as follows: thyroid perioxidase antibodies 104 (<250 negative) free t-4. 1.4. (.8-1.8) TSH .008. (.4-4.5).
744962 tn?1270942038 I dont think taking thyroxin with Armour is wise as the Armour already has a T4 med in it and you are taking T4 as well (thyroxin). Is there any reason for this? Usually you are one or the other. All you are doing by taking thyroxin is to 'boost' the Armour. And that in itself would cause symptoms as it could elevate your FT4 which then converts to T3...hence the tremors..
Avatar f tn A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T3 and Free T4 as necessary to relieve symptoms without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results, and especially not just TSH results. You can get some good insight from this link written by a good thyroid doctor. http://www.hormonerestoration.com/Thyroid.html In trying to find a good thyroid doctor there are two main questions.
Avatar f tn 01 would not stimulate any production of natural thyroid hormone, and as I said the 60 mg of Armour is not enough to account for those FT4 and FT3 levels. So I would look for other causes. Your TPO ab and TG ab indicate Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. With Hashi's people often go through a hyper phase, and then as destruction of the gland continues, they end up hypothyroid.
895308 tn?1304340982 You will either remain off somewhat with your Armour if you chose to stay on Xanax - or better yet, ween off the Xanax and then adjust your thyroid hormones naturally with the Armour so all the hypo symptoms leave and you truly are well then again without that garbage anxiety meds causing you grief.
