Armour thyroid to synthroid

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid to synthroid

armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn Hi, I am on Levoxyl (equivalent to synthroid) and my hair is falling out. I was diagnosed w/ thyroid cancer, so I have to be on this hormone as my entire thyroid was removed. I am so sad, I heard that armour is better for this problem. I hope so!!
Avatar n tn The medication contains T 1, 2, 3, 4, and calcitonin, all of which are produced by a healthy thyroid. It is not true that Armour is difficult to regulate or dirty. In fact, Armour batches have been recalled less frequently than their synthetic counterparts. This is not to say Armour is any better or worse; it is simply important to remember that different patients respond to different medications, and T4-only medications don't work for everyone.
535882 tn?1396576685 As for the question about switching meds, as a patient - I did have trouble switching from Synthroid to Armour. After all this time - now on desiccated thyroid hormone - I am fine, but I think I had a hard time b/c of being so seriously ill while on Synthroid.
Avatar m tn I say this because making the cchange from the Armour (T4/T3) to Synthroid (T4 only) is very difficult to coordinate, without going through a potential hypo phase. Did your doctor say anything about how you should make the change? All at once, or gradually phase into it? I seem to also remember several members having palpitations that were related to being hypo, rather than hyper.
Avatar f tn I have Hosimoto's and I've taken Armour Thyroid since 2000 and will never take anything else. Armour Thyroid is all natural - not synthetic. The doctor who first put me on it only prescribed Armour. He didn't like the long term affects that could be caused by taking synthetics. I had surgery in 2002 and 2/3'ds of my thyroid removed. The surgeon wanted to take me off Armour and put me on Synthroid but I wouldn't let him.
Avatar n tn That is just my poorly supported opinion. There are people who have switched from Synthroid to Armour posting here that would disagree. And vice versa. I'm not saying for one minute that I'm right. I'm just saying it is my opinion.
734073 tn?1278896325 I am 32, have hypothyroid for 8 years now. I was switched from Synthroid to Armour thyroid by a new doctor and never felt worse. I did it for 2 weeks and continued to feel worse. Body aches, moodiness, etc. I switched back to Synthroid and feel good again.
Avatar f tn I was thinking of switching back to Synthroid with Cytomel.
525721 tn?1212451525 I consistantly gained weight until I moved to another state in 2006 and had a doctor that switched me to Armour thyroid. I had great results for 2 years losing nearly 40 pounds and feeling like myself again. I moved back to the original state and went for cancer screening and labs. My levels were normal, yet he said he liked the consistant results of synthetic. He advised me to go back on Synthroid 200. Since 6 months ago, I have regained 36 pounds and feel terrible!
Avatar n tn You mentioned in your post you were swinging from Hyper to hypo right but you said that you were advised to go off Synthroid due to the other issues that were going on. I would tend to believe that removing you off your meds was the reason for the swinging of your symptoms. I feel for you and many people can react on any med.
Avatar n tn Should I just go back to my original dose of 175 mcg Synthroid upon stoping Armour or wait a day or two to restart the Synthroid. Also, do you think my dosage of 175 mcg of Synthroid was too high with the lab results shown? I have an evaluation appointment with my doctor at the end of March, but would like you opinion. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn I have struggled for years with adverse side effects from Synthroid. I have an extreme sensitivity to Synthroid and have had a reaction to Cytomel as well i.e. become hype and experience many of the listed side effects of Synthroid.. Every time I increase my dose, I have a horrible experience until the medication stabilizes. My Free T4 is midrange and the FreeT3 is low and my TSH is close to 6.
Avatar n tn welcome! Glad to hear you are doing well on Armour....doing well period for that matter! lol Did you have your thyroid removed or do you have hashi's? I know 180 mgs is high dosage, that is why I ask. :) I am on 90-120mgs alternating. I am now awaiting blood results to see if I can increase again.
Avatar f tn gave me a rx for synthroid 50 mcg- I called my natual pathic dr and they up the armour to 80 mg - I feel like I am goning to die - I am so tired and my face is still parlayzed from Bells Pasly- feeling scared and like no dr knows what they are doing- nor do they care-all endocrinolgist cannot see me until Feb or march- How long does this take to work- should I get off armour and go to synthroid again - why am I so inflammed my hand s are going down some what- I feel scared- any suggestions- t
Avatar f tn My Endo doctor told me to stop taking synthroid. I stop taking synthroid for 2 weeks, and the dizziness, left facial heaviness, and headache never completely resolved. Now taking Armour thyroid I woke up today as when I first took synthroid. Whats going on with me? Can anyone help me?
Avatar f tn t handle it. You also said if it continued, I may have to be switched to straight T4, Synthroid. That is exactly what happened this week. I kept having the heart palpitations and feeling worse than ever - seemed like the Armour was becoming toxic and poisoning me. Anyway, I stopped the Armour yesterday and started the Synthroid today. I noticed that my heart doesn't seem to be racing as much. How long does it take for the Armour to get out of my system?
1369218 tn?1282423884 My doc wants to switch me from Synthroid/Cytomel to armour. Is it any better yet? I know it was reformulated last year, but is it back? I still have hypo symtpoms including insomnia.
314892 tn?1264623903 Except if you can't tolerate it.... I was on Levothyroxine and Cytomel since TT in Sept '07...(several dosage changes and timing changes for the Cytomel, couldn't sleep normally, no matter what...as it's a combo of T3 and T4), and then just Synthroid to see if my own conversion T4 to tT3 worked... (two dosage changes, mega-onset of bloating and arthritis), And then I SCREAMED to get off of Synthroid and onto Levoxyl.
Avatar m tn RLC labs is getting Naturethroid back on the pharmacy shelves this month in 1 grain tablets. Other grains will follow in the next few months. I haven't followed Forest Pharmacuticals Armour lately - because of their reformulazation of the med. Due to filler changes in the medication becoming more absorbable in the GI track, many hypothyroid patients found the additional cellulose added made their hypothyroidism symptoms return within days.
Avatar f tn Many have become symptomatic when changing over to another medication, I switched from synthroid to Armour, and that was 8 weeks ago, I am still trying to catch up, it does take a little time to get in balance again. Also for more info you could post your last labs ie: Free T3 Free T4 and TSH including the reference ranges provided for each, this way members can see where you are in regards to thyroid and comment or advise.
Avatar f tn Hi, I want to switch from my 100mcg daily dose of Levoxyl to Armour Thyroid- what would be the equivalent dose? Thanks!
Avatar f tn My dhea is low so I just started dhea . I there another way to treat my adreanals and am I allergic to armour. Synthroid seems alittle better but I was still dizzy. I was tested for menaires. My dizziness is like motion sickness and I have horrible with short term memoryloss.
Avatar f tn I am pretty new to the hypothyroid condition (I have autoimmune Hashimotos) I have read non-stop about thryoid conditions and the drugs prescribed for it over the last 3 months. From what I have read T4 only does not often alleviate the symptoms and many people spend years with their symptoms regardless of the dosage they are taking. The drugs may produce "blood test results" that doctors like to see - but the symptoms are still there or become worse. I needed T3, and I knew it.
Avatar n tn Hey everyone, I just found out that my insurance will no longer cover my Armour Thyroid due to a packaging change.....I've taken synthroid and the generic version of armour and didn't feel anybetter. I can no longer afford armour, so is there any suggestions on what i can talk to my doctor about switching me on????
