Armour thyroid vs synthroid 2010

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid vs synthroid 2010

armour-thyroid

Avatar n tn Of course you know that Synthroid is T4 and Armour is a mix of T4 and T3 in a ratio of abut 4.2 to one. Whether this is the only reason for Armour being sometimes more effective is a long discussion. Taking a med that contains T3, you can expect an increase in the levels of total T3 and also free T3 in your blood. Since free T3 is the most active thyroid hormone, it largely regulates metabolism and other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have no idea about all the ins and outs of Synthroid vs. Armour. I know that people sometimes have better results with one and then sometimes the other. In my case I found that even though taking a large dose of Synthroid (200mcg), I never became symptom free because my body was not converting T4 very well. When my doctor confirmed this by checking free T3, she decided to change my meds to a T4/T3 combination. I started feeling better very shortly thereafter.
Avatar n tn I too have Hashi my AntiAB is 3179 and I have been on all the synthetic drugs- Levo - Synthroid/Cytomel, etc... I did not find any relief until I started taking Armour. This is not to say it will work for everyone! but I wanted to make sure you understood that takingArmour did not create your antibodies- your body did. Hope this helped... We're in this all together........
Avatar f tn she said my levels were like i still had my thyroid...so she increased my synthroid from 100 mcg to 125mcg. I showed her a pitcure of the rashes and my hair loss. and she said she didnt know why i was lossing my hair she referred my to a demrotogist...um no i told my docotor im not going to see her because there is nothing wrong its the meds!!! She ran a bunch of tests and in the between time i started taking a boat loads of vitamins....then the results are back everything came back great!
Avatar f tn What would be the determining factor for prescribing armour thyroid vs synthroid (and maybe cytomel)? I appreciate your help very much. It seems like it has taken forever to get the right dosage and help.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar f tn I was on levothyroxin and did not do well. I had read so much about getting on armour thyroid that I was glad when the new doc ordered armour. Now I have been reading about the new formulation and am wondering if I would do better with getting my levels up if I switched to the ERFA? Will my levels ever get where they need to be if I stay on the Armour? there is so much to consider here. It sounds like you can easily have your RX changed to a different pharmacy that would provide the ERFA.
Avatar f tn Hi, I want to switch from my 100mcg daily dose of Levoxyl to Armour Thyroid- what would be the equivalent dose? Thanks!
Avatar f tn The TSH is low - suggesting you may need less synthroid - depends on cancer risk and TSH goal. Low TSH may be reflecting that synthroid excess causing weight loss.
Avatar n tn I think you are confusing Synthroid with Armour. Synthroid is a synthetic T4 medication, as is levothyroxine. The difference is the fillers and the price. As far as consistency, all the thyroid medications have had some issues. I am on Armour and I have been on the same dose for almost 5 years, so for me it is very consistent. Each of us do better on one medication over the other. There's no one medication for all.
727481 tn?1231203771 Switched to Armour after 4 years on levo/synthroid and after gaining 30 pounds and having symptoms of depression the last 6 months. Was never depressed before and after watching a commercial for a drug cautioning about depression symptoms I realized mine might be related to the drug and confirmed it on the internet linked to levothyroxine. Went off it immed. and switched to Armour in summer 2010 and feel great - energetic, upbeat and positive and my normal weight is returning.
Avatar f tn I was started on Synthroid and stayed on it until 2010, I then started taking Aumour Thyroid 60mg. My TSH levels were too low so the doctor increased it to 75mg. A couple of weeks ago I had blood test done and my results were TSH 16.940, T4 4.6, T3 221. I have been feeling really off balance, fatigued, loss of appetite, mindless and anxious at times. has anyone experience these type of feelings or having their levels this high while taking Aumour Thyroid.
937837 tn?1285350385 AND just so you are aware, if you do choose to switch to nautal desiccated thyroid meds, like Armour, recently they switched their processing of it and now it contains more lactose then it did. Many Armour patients are now finding they too are suffering the IBS and bloating cause by lactose since the formula was changed. I moved on to Naturthroid from Armour. I find I need alot more meds ( grains) to keep me well on this than before when I was taking the old Armour.
Avatar f tn Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.
596383 tn?1219606396 hi, the simply put, the frees show how your body is responding to the medicine. I wouldn't worry about "piggy" hormones unless you are a vegetarian. Armour or synthroid really has to be a personal preference. Synthroid caused to many complications for me. If you do decide to go to armour, I would advice you to titrate up. It will give your body a chance to adjust to the T3 and also to split your dose in to at least 2.
Avatar f tn How many of you out there are taking Synthroid everyday for their thyroid disorders? How many on Levothyroxine? Notice any difference between the two?
Avatar f tn I am pretty new to the hypothyroid condition (I have autoimmune Hashimotos) I have read non-stop about thryoid conditions and the drugs prescribed for it over the last 3 months. From what I have read T4 only does not often alleviate the symptoms and many people spend years with their symptoms regardless of the dosage they are taking. The drugs may produce "blood test results" that doctors like to see - but the symptoms are still there or become worse. I needed T3, and I knew it.
