armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn I was on 112mg of Synthroid and 5mg of Cytomel and now I am on 120 mg of Armour. That was my starting dose. I have not really had any side effects (except constipation but had that on and off before) but don't feel any better either. I did read on here that you should start slow and work your way up but my doctor did not do that. So I don't know . I go back in about three weeks for blood tests. I am going to ask for the free t3 also.
Avatar f tn Is there a difference between the T4 in Synthroid and in Nature Throid/Armour? I was just switched to Synthroid and I'm feeling the difference. All the hypo symptoms are back with a vengence with in 4 days. Took Nature Throid dose to get thru the day. How long does it take for Synthroid T4 to start converting to T3? Is going from 130mg nature Throid to 137mcg of Synthroid normal? It is less T4 that I was getting on NT. Can anyone help me with this? I feel like I'm going crazy.
368844 tn?1262319347 I had a bit of chat with the pharmacy about it and I was told that there was no difference between the levo and synthroid. I know that there is a difference because I was on synthroid for awhile. My insurance co. wanted me to use th levothyroxine so I had to switch. I was really mad because they made it sound like it was all mental. Boy, I'm telling ya....if it's not the pharmacy, it's my doctor telling me that it's all in my head.
Avatar f tn Naturethroid, Armour, etc. are dessicated porcine thyroid and contain both T3 and T4, along with other thyroid hormones and trace elements. Some people do well on T4-only meds, some do well on synthetic T3/T4 combos, and some only do well on dessicated. It's all an experiment to see what works best for you...what makes most of your symptoms go away. T3-only meds are sometimes used temporarily, but only in special cases.
Avatar f tn Do I have to get on the synthroid or armour? Could they test your hypoithamus????? where is that and could that be the whole problem? thanks again for your help.
Avatar n tn Of course you know that Synthroid is T4 and Armour is a mix of T4 and T3 in a ratio of abut 4.2 to one. Whether this is the only reason for Armour being sometimes more effective is a long discussion. Taking a med that contains T3, you can expect an increase in the levels of total T3 and also free T3 in your blood. Since free T3 is the most active thyroid hormone, it largely regulates metabolism and other symptoms.
734073 tn?1278896325 I am 32, have hypothyroid for 8 years now. I was switched from Synthroid to Armour thyroid by a new doctor and never felt worse. I did it for 2 weeks and continued to feel worse. Body aches, moodiness, etc. I switched back to Synthroid and feel good again.
822804 tn?1298226302 Do you feel better after taking the Armour vs taking Synthroid? I have been on Synthroid for almost 3 years and I feel terrible...my dosage has been increased many times,I am currently taking 150mcg of Synthroid(the actual brand name not generic) and I still continue to feel the same.I have asked for a script for Armour because I have heard good things about it because it doesnt just have T4 in it,has T1,2,3 and 4.Any help would be greatly appreciated.I have no thyroid..
Avatar f tn I’ve read a lot of posts where people are really happy with the Armour. Don’t know the difference between the two and I am assuming which ever one you take is based on the condition you have? Also there is a Synthroid that people take is it the name brand of Levothyroxine or is it a completely different medication?
Avatar m tn The results showed that the patients scored better after receiving the natural thyroid Armour on 6 of 17 measures of mood and cognition than those on the synthetic drug Synthroid. Results of mood and physical status tests were better in 10 of 15 instances. There was also biochemical evidence that thyroid hormone action was greater after treatment with natural thyroid rather than the synthetic. Can there really be that big of a difference between natural and synthetic? You bet.
Avatar n tn welcome! Glad to hear you are doing well on Armour....doing well period for that matter! lol Did you have your thyroid removed or do you have hashi's? I know 180 mgs is high dosage, that is why I ask. :) I am on 90-120mgs alternating. I am now awaiting blood results to see if I can increase again.
Avatar n tn Since I do not have insurance and I am currently only paying $4 for my thyroid meds, is the Armour very expensive? Is it difficult to find? If it will help to alleviate my miserable symptoms, I'm sure it will be worth it. One question about the magnesium citrate. Does it relieve all of the bloating where I can wear my clothes again? I'm currently taking Gas X and it does not seem to be working. I've also been exercising (doing crunches) and see no results.
Avatar f tn Keep on the 90 armour and 25mcg. synthroid or increase Armour to 120mg. I have only been on the additional synthroid for almost a month now and I can clearly feel a huge difference in my brain function and energy. I am not as foggy...I'm sharper and overall have a better outlook on life. Years ago, I took Synthroid only and did not do well at all. So I am wondering if I should perhaps take the Armour 120 mgs. instead? If so, that will be the largest dose of Armour I have ever taken...
Avatar n tn I know when I started the Synthroid initially I felt a big difference in my bloated stomach, swollen ankles and eventually my nails stopped breaking. I'm also consulting another endo in a months time who was recommended so I'll see.
Avatar n tn As far as consistency, all the thyroid medications have had some issues. I am on Armour and I have been on the same dose for almost 5 years, so for me it is very consistent. Each of us do better on one medication over the other. There's no one medication for all.
524020 tn?1223161005 Who knows, the side effects from synthroid might be worse than armour, and I might be jumping ship, back to armour. Time and side effects and symptoms will tell. Please keep us posted how it works for you.
Avatar m tn t benefit from Synthroid - you are very lucky your found Synthroid to work best for you - it is the thyroid drug of choice and many doctors will not continue Armour if you need to change to someone else. Go back to what works - and the question is still ot there - Why did you try it if Synthroid was working?
533880 tn?1237612452 I have asked before but what is the difference between the reg thyroid meds and the Armour? It is getting harder for me to type because of the brian fog. I find it difficult to type the things I want to type. I mess up a lot. Headaches plaque me on a daily basis. My test results are all fine and in normal range, I just still feel like **** al day and everyday.
665125 tn?1273023924 I have been on both (Synthroid and Armour) and really I can't tell too much of a difference. I, however, can't tolerate generic levo!!
Avatar f tn I am 28 yo female, I had my thyroid removed 10 years ago due to non cancerous nodules growing on it. I've been on synthroid since I was 11 yo. Everything was fine until I went off birth control pills. All of a sudden I had a hard time tolerating my 137 mcg dose of synthroid. I switched to armour thyroid, but couldn't tolerate any more than 60 mg. I felt great on just 60 mg, however my TSH shot up from 1 to almost 8.
Avatar f tn I believe it depends on the person. Personally I take them both, Armour and Synthroid, at the same time and I feel much better then when I was taking only Armour or only Levothyroxine. When you start taking Armour we need at least a month for the body to get used with the medication and to start feeling better. For how long you take Armour and why you are not happy with it?
Avatar f tn Thanks for reply! Since I started thyroxine, I have felt better than I did, but not as good as I used to before Hypo. was diagnosed, also my hair seems to have stopped growing, and weight is difficult to shift, never had these sort of problems before. I am staying on thyroxine for now but I just feel that I would like to try something else, not easy in the UK, Armour is outside the NHS. Do you find Synthroid OK for you?
895308 tn?1304340982 You will either remain off somewhat with your Armour if you chose to stay on Xanax - or better yet, ween off the Xanax and then adjust your thyroid hormones naturally with the Armour so all the hypo symptoms leave and you truly are well then again without that garbage anxiety meds causing you grief.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I've been on the same dose of Synthroid and now the generic, levothyroxine, for about 12 years now. Although I've had to go up to .125 and down to .075, it's been pretty consistant at .1mg. To me, there hasn't been a difference between the two makes of drug. I do have anemia problems due to the hypothyroidism and do get the ringing/buzzing in my left ear.
Avatar f tn thanks barb it is armour thyroid. would that make a difference.
