Anxiety gaba

Common Questions and Answers about Anxiety gaba

1326513 tn?1276521601 Probably not -- ativan targets gaba receptors. Don't know how frequently you take ativan. gaba isn't a particularly effective supplement for anxiety. For one thing, it can cause anxiety. For another, and most important, it doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier well. A better way to get gaba is to take taurine, which along with B-6 is what the body uses to make gaba, but since you're taking the ativan, I'd be careful about this.
Avatar f tn There is no evidence serotonin has any more to causing anxiety than gaba levels. anxiety has no known chemical cause at this point in time, though it is thought to be connected to the amygdyla and the adrenals, but no evidence yet. You hear a lot in this world, but most of it is from marketing by pharmaceutical companies, not evidence based. Working on serotonin can make you feel less anxious, but not because it's causing it.
574118 tn?1305138884 //gaba-do-in-the-brain-558386.html God has not created an illness without creating its cure this is the philosophy adopted by older civilizations and religions, so possibly B6, B12, sam-e, tryptophan, glutamine, etc...gaba, etc... omega-3 can lift this disease. for example in my case while all the family eat fish, i can eat a 6 pounds fish at once without being satisfied.
Avatar f tn can too high a dose of gaba cause anxiety? I know gaba is used to bring anxiety down but I took 750mg. and my anxiety became much higher and my stomach was very nauseous! A few hours later I took 2.5mg. of valium and I feel much better. But now I don't know what to do about the gaba?
Avatar f tn Klonopin is a benzodiazepine, an anti anxiety medication, it works by enhancing the effects gaba in the brain. Why do you ask?
Avatar n tn gaba can't pass the bbb on its own. I have question that maybe someone can help me with. i've read many articles about the bbb, and i'm still pretty confused (not the sharpest tool in the shed). it would seem that with a transporter (from what i've read, a transporter has the ability to allow a chemical that wouldn't on its own pass the bbb to get through) gaba could pass this bbb.
6712744 tn?1384030664 I recently found out that my 7 year old son is ADHD. His school wants me to put him on medications and I refuse. I did order gaba Plus as an alternative to help him stay focused in class. It seems to help some. My question to all of you is what methods did you choose and has anyone heard of gaba Plus?
Avatar n tn I was looking up some natural meds online for anxiety and came along gaba. There really isnt a lot of information on the web about it but I went ahead and got womens gaba 750mg the other day on So while i was reading the little information they have about it it was talking about dosages. 750mg does seem like a lot from what i was reading. they didnt have it in any other dosages (i got the pill form) should i break it in 1/2 or just take the 750?
484508 tn?1290014144 Coming off of a low dose of Klonopin .5 mg for anxiety.....I was told that gaba is a good supplement to help with anxiety. Is this true? Does it work? Any other natural remedies to help during this taper process which begins in a few days. I run 3 miles a day, rollerblade often and hit the gym about 2 days a week....
Avatar n tn gaba contributes to motor control, vision, and many other cortical functions. anxiety is also regulated by gaba. Some drugs that increase the level of gaba in the brain are used to treat epilepsy and to calm the trembling of people suffering from Huntington’s disease. Gamma-aminobutyric acid also stimulates the anterior pituitary, leading to higher levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Human Growth Hormone contributes significantly to muscle growth and also prevents the creation of fat cells.
Avatar m tn I am currently in the process of upping my dosage of Zoloft (starting slow because I am sensitive to medications) and was curious about gaba Calm. I take the Zoloft for GAD and mild depression, but the anxiety throughout the day is still very tough. A friend suggested it to me but I was curious if it is safe to take it while on a SSRI medication. Does anyone have any insight on this?
Avatar m tn I hope the someone here will be able to help. I suffer from anxiety and Panic attacks from time, it is all around my perfectionism problem with everything related with studing, i am a student Prozac and other SSRI that I have tried along the years found to be unhelpfull for me. When I have a Panic attack I used to use Xanax sometimes.
Avatar m tn 1) I am currently on 5 mg Lexapro (I went down from 30 mg over a period of six months, as the medication was no longer helping after working perfectly for five years). I am interested in using gaba or Picamilon (gaba/Niacin) for anxiety/depression; however, I have heard some say that they work as MAOIs and thus should not be combined with an SSRI. Is this true? 2) I am taking a Centrum supplement which claims to have 100% daily value of all the necessary B-vitamins.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with depression at age 18, and have tried almost all kinds of antidepressants, from SSRI's (which don't help), tricyclics (nortriptyline as an add-on), and SNRI's (Effexor XR gave me severe tachycardia and anxiety, so I switched to Cymbalta which kinda help but seems to bring out the sadness in me even more), and atypicals like Remeron, Wellbutrin and trazodone. I had 8 sessions of ECT but didn't seem to have much improvement.
Avatar n tn ) I take a benzo for anxiety, since benzos also affect the gaba receptors in the brain, I wonder if they would affect cancer cells as well? Interesting but scary. I am currently weaning off the benzo and had actually thought about taking gaba or some other natural product. Maybe Ryan or someone who is knowledgeable of benzo's and gaba receptors will see this post. Keep me informed.
Avatar n tn What is the best medicine or herbal supplement to take to get over anxiety and depression.
Avatar m tn I am currently on 5 mg Lexapro (having lowered the dosage from a whopping 30 mg over a period of about six months). I am interested in trying either gaba or Picamilon (gaba/Niacin) to see if it may alleviate anxiety/depression. However, I have heard conflicting reports concerning its safety; some have said that gaba acts as an MAOI and thus cannot be combined with an SSRI. Is this true? Thank you.
Avatar m tn I am trying to get a professional/experienced opinion on whether or not it would be ok to try a gaba supplement for my dog's anxiety, and if so, how much would be safe to take? She is about 5 years old weighs 18 pounds. I've tried herbal blends and treats with herbs and little doses of supplements in them but none of that has been strong enough. I've tried T-touch and wrapping/swaddling her and Thundershirt and they are not strong enough.
Avatar n tn gaba is not well absorbed, and can actually cause anxiety in some people. The better way to take it is to take taurine and B6, which manufacture gaba in the system. If that doesn't help, there are also herbal relaxants you can take, such as passionflower, valerian, kava that also work on gaba receptors, though aren't as strong as benzos.
Avatar f tn Second, L-theanine is involved in the formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter, gamma amino butyric acid (gaba). gaba influences the levels of two other neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin, producing the key relaxation effect. (2) Alpha Brain Activity The brain emits weak electrical impulses (brain waves) that can be measured on the surface of the head. The predominant frequency of electrical impulses correlates with different types of mental states and activities.
798555 tn?1292791151 Though I'd venture over hear from the thyroid forum to pick your brains again (its been a while). I googled gaba and read mixed reviews. I'm interested in its possibility to support weak adrenals. Having Hashimoto hypothyroid for decades, adrenal insufficiency is something I also must deal with. Doing nothing for weak adrenals in stressful times can contribute to a Hashimoto thyroid being hard to manage, if only more people new this.
1131131 tn?1275112088 Hi, I recently was sent to the ER by my physican due to a reaction I was having from my celexa. I was having extreme anxiety, high blood pressure, sweating, tremors, shaking, etc. They had me stop the celexa. My doctor had me start Zoloft. I have been on it for six days and some of the same symptoms are starting again plus muscle tightness in the chest and throat. She told me to stop the zoloft. I asked if I should titrate it, but I was told to just stop it.
992677 tn?1537672503 It didn't like me too well either time. gaba is an amino acid that some claim helps to reduce or relive anxiety and also helps to relax muscle tissue. HTP-5 is also an amino acid that some claim helps your body to produce seritonion. Used together they supposedly work very well to reduce the effects of axiety disorders. My question is since our issue has the same effects as an axiety disorder would this also help?
1139187 tn?1355710247 I had really bad anxiety when i went to my dose of 130 synthroid. It was almost unbearable. Now that I'm decreasing to 120 the anxiety is back. Is this normal?

Avatar f tn I started having anxiety and wanted to try gaba because I want to try to stay away from meds. My anxiety has caused me to not sleep as much, is it safe to take both?
1147530 tn?1314825196 Has anyone used gaba as an anti-anxiety against palps? Its a calming natural supplement which can be bought OTC. Wondering if taking this will worsen pac's or PVC's or will it help? My anxiety is at an all time high due to an increase in arrythmia lately. Not keen on starting SSRI's, which actually may co tribute to more arrythmia.
