577106 tn?1219839345 http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mrsa/DS00735/DSECTION=treatments%2Dand%2Ddrugs The answer to your question is, yes the diseases caused by MRSA can be cured if the particular strain has not yet shown resistance to the other antibiotics(like vancomycin) that are used to treat it. So, you can have cases which respond well to treatment. On the other hand there could be strains which are beginning to develop resistance to what was once effective in treating them.
Avatar n tn Whic after internet research I found out these particular antibiotics are inaffective against MRSA. As was the antibiotic ointment prescribed for my eye.

Avatar n tn You need to see your doctor again. there are much better choices of antibiotics for you for mrsa. Also if it won't clear up with oral antibiotics, you might need different treatment. Do you have a regular partner? If so have they been tested for herpes? If you don't have a regular partner, how long after the last time you had sex did you have the blood test done?
441951 tn?1275762988 d like to drop kick your doctor for giving you 4 rounds of penicillin based antibiotics knowing the infection was resistant to it. MRSA is nothing to fool around with and if it can get into your blood stream and cause serious problems. CoWriter was spot on about how you should get this resolved (she's pretty smart about the medical stuff) and I hope very soon for your sake. Good Luck and feel better soon.
1821865 tn?1317522031 Due to her lack of improvement her therapy had cut short it has been over 3months with no therapy. She has a gtube which had infected with heavy grow of mrsa. She was put on antibiotic for 15 days now it still look like it has drainage. For those of you whose been experience this type of stroke can you help me. I am afraid i may lose her. she is at home improving very welll i am worried abt her since its been so long no words yet.
Avatar n tn These circumstances can include what other interactions the MRSA may be in contact with such as other bacteria in which that it may compete against / with thus killing MRSA or cultivating / transfering the bacteria. Most studies suggest / show that MRSA can live up to 90 days / 3 months. Thusly, this becomes a never-ending battle. What HAS been subjected may be unnoticed until days or weeks later thus cycling back the bacteria into a sterile field.
Avatar m tn t understand why you should wait a year until it goes away. There are effective antibiotics that can kill it in a matter of weeks. Just in case, wash your skin with antibacterial soap often.
Avatar f tn We are at the end of our rope. My 17 year old daughter has been getting MRSA for about 3 years. We have tried everything we know to do. She is allergic to sulfur drugs so those are not an option for her. She gets abscesses at least once every 1.5 to 2 weeks sometimes more. We were at our local Childrens hospital last night to have a very large one drained. She was on Zyvox during Thanksgiving and we were free of abscesses for 3 weeks. That is the longest she has gone without having one.
Avatar f tn the wound and said with all the oral antibiotics she is MRSA free. My question is what risks am I subject to with MRSA? This process has been going on for two months and besides living with me and sharing a toilet, I have been with her to help her through all these difficulties at two different hospitals and the nursing home which are all riddled with infections. What should I do to protect myself?
Avatar f tn Although there are a few strains that are resistant to even these drugs, many cases of MRSA can be cleared up this way. For severe cases, antibiotics may be administered in the hospital via IV. This allows the medicine to go directly to the bloodstream where it will have a faster effect. Preventing MRSA vaginal infections is a matter of practicing good hygiene and health habits. MRSA can be avoided by regular washing of the body with antibacterial soap.
Avatar m tn I then have been on 2 antibiotics since and the infection is in decline. Seems the greatest effect on this MRSA/or similar infection is the Chamomile Oil. Could this be a possible help in the fight against this tricky infection??
Avatar n tn My daughter who is just graduated high school has had 4 cases of MRSA in the last 12 months. She was last treated with a nasal antibiotic; twice daily for 5 days. While cleaning her room I found 3 unused doses... will this make the treatment less effective & can the MRSA return? She also wants to get her belly button pierced which I think is unwise given her recent health history. Am I overreacting & what are the potential health risks?
Avatar f tn As he already has an immunocompromised state of health, in view of diabetes, it would be better to have all infections treated (MRSA also) with effective antibacterial regimens rather aggressively. Any existing infection can spread via the blood stream or by contaminated hands, clothes, etc. It would be good to practice safe sex until the infection resolves as there is the likelihood that you may pick up an infection leading to an UTI at least.
Avatar f tn Do not take Cipro with calcium, milk, yogurt, probiotics or with Nexium (which contains magnesium). Cipro is a quinalone, and is effective against mycobacteria, which don't have cell walls, but is not effective against other many strains of bacteria. The taking of an anti-viral is a mixed blessing. Go to the FDA site for information on Valtrex. A culture should have been taken, but this isn't done very often these days.
577106 tn?1219839345 I have an abcess on the calf of my right leg and a culture of it tested positive for MRSA. I am alergic to sulpha and the bacteria showed sensitive to tetracycline so my doctor prescribed it and I have been taking it since 8-9. I finish the last 2 doses on Friday. The sore on my leg looks like it is healing but very slowly. If the sore is not completely healed by Friday should I go back in?
Avatar f tn http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/7981714/Cockroaches-could-help-combat-MRSA-and-E.coli.html Scientists at Nottingham University found that the insects, which are widely reviled for their dirty image, could actually be more of a health benefit than a health risk. They have identified up to nine different molecules in the tissues of cockroaches and locusts that are toxic to bacteria and they hope will pave the way for new treatments for multi-drug resistant bacterial infections.
Avatar f tn I also had MRSA and have just found out that I am a MRSA carrier although, I am not infected at the moment.I also have RA and take 7.5 mg of Mexotraxate one time per week. My new orthopedic surgeon called my RA doctor and said hey, need to back off the Mexotraxaate and ALL steriod shots until the foot has healed. My RA doctor concurred. Now, the Orthopedic surgeon was okay with me taking the Medrol which is "Tablets contain methylprednisolone which is a glucocorticoid.
Avatar f tn There are a couple of antibiotics that are new that are for resistant strains of MRSA. The problem is some of these antibiotics can ruin your hearing and kidneys. So, the doctor may be trying to save these. If all else failed then they would give it to you (if it became totally life threatening or got into your blood). But you can let me know what antibiotics they have used and I can take a look. So, it does sound like you have been very diligent in handling the Staph.
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar m tn Ok. I have been on and off antibiotics for mrsa for the last 2 months. Mostly Bactrim. Problem is the mrsa keeps returning. I have had 2 negative nare and armpit swaps. But they say it's still mrsa and the infection keeps coming back. Anyways. I continue decolonization and abx treatment. But I started to notice my stools getting loose. Then today I went to have the runs and all that came out was a little mucous and blood. Blood was bright red. No stool. Worried about c diff.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have mrsa in my right forearm by my elbow. I went to the ER three days ago and they got all of the puss out and gave me an antibiotic that I have to take for ten days. I do know that not all antibiotics will work. My question is, I am scheduled to have an abortion November 10th, can I still do it?
Avatar f tn Do you know if Levaquin is effective against MRSA (the drug resistant type of staph)?
Avatar f tn Im sure they did a sensitivity on the culture swab and ran it against all oral antibiotics to show any sensitivity resistance. If not then they need to do so ASAP. I cant believe after draining it and IV antibiotics that it didnt knock the infection out.
Avatar m tn i have gone to hospital and they tell me that i have mrsa i have drank the antibotics requested and it is noty working can you please tell me what to do
