Antibiotics and mrsa

Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics and mrsa

antibiotics

Avatar f tn I have MRSA (found through colonization of urine due to UTI). I have had chronic UTI's for years now and my dr just treats them with antibiotics everytime and does an ultrasound to make sure nothing serious going on in there like cancer or kidney disease. I do not have a skin infection....I am experiencing UTI symptoms, fatigue, my whole body is very sore and achy especially my neck and shoulders and lower back. Have been through 2 weeks of Bactrim DS and three days after I finished meds..
Avatar m tn Eight days ago I woke up with an abscess on my leg in the groin area, opposite of my testicles. My wife and I promptly went to the doctor and it turned out to be a mrsa infection. The sore was drained of puss and I have been antibiotics taking them on time and will continue to take them on time until they are gone. My question is: what should we do so that we can continue to have sex without transferring the bacteria to my wife?
577106 tn?1219839345 MRSA is only dangerous if you know somone that has it and you have an open cut and the boil or pimple bacteria somehow goes in your cut from the person, then it will infect you if your immune system is low. but if you have no cuts..you have nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar m tn I then have been on 2 antibiotics since and the infection is in decline. Seems the greatest effect on this MRSA/or similar infection is the Chamomile Oil. Could this be a possible help in the fight against this tricky infection??
Avatar m tn Ok. I have been on and off antibiotics for mrsa for the last 2 months. Mostly Bactrim. Problem is the mrsa keeps returning. I have had 2 negative nare and armpit swaps. But they say it's still mrsa and the infection keeps coming back. Anyways. I continue decolonization and abx treatment. But I started to notice my stools getting loose. Then today I went to have the runs and all that came out was a little mucous and blood. Blood was bright red. No stool. Worried about c diff.
Avatar n tn He has 2 boys from his previous marriage. The youngest has a lot of skin issues and has contracted MRSA. Since meeting my husband, we have all had bouts with boils caused by MRSA. We've tried just about everything.. and we really just deal with them now. Get on antibiotics, put the mupirocin in the nose, etc. I had a couple boils over a year ago.. then didn't have anymore for probably 10 months.. then here in the past 3 months..
Avatar n tn Whic after internet research I found out these particular antibiotics are inaffective against MRSA. As was the antibiotic ointment prescribed for my eye.
Avatar n tn Hi My daughter of 13 weeks (adopted from Ethiopia) has been diagnosed with ESBL resistant salmonella concord (hope I have said it right). Also with MRSA positive swabs in her nose and throat. Now I don't know if I am posting this in the right place but...... what I wanted to know is ...... both of these are resistant to antibiotics......
Avatar f tn if u get it treated early it can be cured with strong anitbiotics prescribed by a doctor but if mrsa is left on treated it can cause serious illness and can even be fatal
Avatar f tn I went to the ER three days ago and they got all of the puss out and gave me an antibiotic that I have to take for ten days. I do know that not all antibiotics will work. My question is, I am scheduled to have an abortion November 10th, can I still do it?
Avatar m tn i have gone to hospital and they tell me that i have mrsa i have drank the antibotics requested and it is noty working can you please tell me what to do
Avatar n tn Yep, agree with Stargazer. I had one over a year ago and was told it is extermely contagious especially if anyone around you is sick or has a compromised immune system.
Avatar n tn I honestly would talk to your father's physician and surgeon about this and get their opinion. MRSA is definitely nothing to mess around with and neither is bypass surgery, so making the most informed decision you can is of utmost importance. I would suggest, however, that if the decision is made to go ahead with surgery, that, if at all possible, they give your father at least a few days of IV antibiotics before the surgery to help reduce any risk.
Avatar n tn i have never had a fever or cold sore or the hsv2 fluid filled blisters. anyway, the dr. called me 1 wk later and said i have mrsa and put me on antibiotics. now i am totally confused. i truly do not believe deep in my heart that i have hsv2. i have been married for 22 yrs. my husband, who has not been tested, said he does not have hsv2. i have only had sex with him 1 time in the last 6 months.
Avatar m tn I worked as an attendant, for people confined to wheel-chairs, and many of them had bed sores, or and MRSA. I wore gloves, and washed and washed myhands after work, but I did finally end up getting a rly painful sore right inside my nostril, that didn't reapond to amoxicillin, or prescription antibiotic cream, I had to take a high-powered antibiotic, and after that, I did change jobs. My advice would be careful to never pick your nose, because staph lives on finger-tips.
Avatar f tn all this went away for about a month. now it is back. im worried the mrsa is active again. does she need more antibiotics. i know mrsa is resistant to most antibiotics, but shouldnt you try them to see if they will work?
Avatar f tn I was treated for MRSA in the past. Now I have COPD and chronic bronchitis. Can the MRSA reappear during one of my active bronchitis bouts?
690549 tn?1288882721 There is no direct correlation between MRSA and MS. MRSA has been found in people who have weak immune system like diabetics, elderly, asthmatics, and patients in health care facilities for prolonged duration. Since you are on steroid therapy which suppresses the immune system the possibility of MRSA cannot be ruled out in your case. A clinical evaluation is warranted. Please get it done and keep us posted!
Avatar f tn Check the vaginal area for strange bumps and if you find any, see your regular doctor and/or your gynecologist immediately. They can swab you for MRSA and if you are diagnosed with this infection you will be treated accordingly. As mentioned earlier, some abscesses require draining. Your doctor may prescribe a very powerful course of antibiotics like docycycline and/or vancomycin for MRSA.
Avatar n tn I just got over a severe case of nose blockage with my face swollen and sores up my nose. I was on 2 antibiotics and I could not breath at all through my nose. My Dr. keeps blaming this on allergies but this time she said it was an allergic reation to something. I do not believe this. Has anyone had or has MRSA and has been left with these symptoms? MRSA is a scary infection and I am trying to do as much research as possible with people who have it.
Avatar f tn Mrsa is treatable during pregnancy and if you have symptoms go in and they can lance it open and swab it, they will put you on antibiotics and probably send you home with papers on cellulitious and wait for the culture to come back (which takes 3 days). They will probably prescribe you bactrim, and in serious cases they will have to give you iv antibiotics (vancomycin) for a couple of days.
Avatar n tn You need to see your doctor again. there are much better choices of antibiotics for you for mrsa. Also if it won't clear up with oral antibiotics, you might need different treatment. Do you have a regular partner? If so have they been tested for herpes? If you don't have a regular partner, how long after the last time you had sex did you have the blood test done?
Avatar n tn My girlfriend has developed a MRSA infection (on her arm). She is being treated with IV antibiotics. Should i stay away from sex with her; from all contact with her?
Avatar f tn They are researching ADEP and using this together with antibiotics linezolid and rifampicin and this eradicates for the first time persistant MRSA. So, it is something to hope for in the near future. In the meantime keep getting treated and look for clincial trails for this. Avatar f tn t specifically tested for MRSA, my doc agreed that it looked like MRSA and since I had it before, he put me on a whole bunch of Bactrim, like 3200 mg/day. I already had all kinds of "back door" problems going on from the HepC and possibly further aggravated by the trial meds. Bactrim really exacerbated those problems big time. My use of Bactrim wasn't what I would call "prolonged", either. But it really jacked me up, they pulled me off it.
Avatar m tn I have been getting boils on my lower back and close to my anus for 8 months now! Went on antibiotics three times, and the last time it didn't do anything at all. I suspect it's MRSA, which is a drug resistant infection on the body that causes boils. I've discovered that raw honey is a miracle product that kills bacteria drugs cannot! But it has to be RAW AND UNPASTEURIZED. Apparently there are some super-charged honeys but as long as it is raw it will work! !http://www.fca.
Avatar n tn On day 3 of hospital stay, the results came back from a sputum sample pin poinint MRSA. We were required to enter her room with gloves, mask, and gown on any visits. At times a dr would come in, listen to her lungs, without any of the precautions taken. If this is so infectious, then why do some have to "suit up" and other's don't. I can't get a straight answer from anyone. I am worried because I have been feeling very tired lately and have a bit of a cough.
