Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics to mrsa

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Just quit working there a month ago because of this... I have had mrsa for a while now been on antibiotics for 2 months now doxycicline.
Avatar n tn The bacteria must have a place to enter into the body and go into the blood stream, so it can enter through cuts, scrapes, wounds or even areas of the skin that are weak or broken. The elderly are especially susceptible to MRSA due to their thinner skin, and people with psoriasis and eczema are also at a higher risk of contracting the bacteria. Secondly regarding surfaces.
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar m tn Also before you switch to a different antibiotic you should have them reculture your MRSA to see what it is sucesseptable to. There are other meds. like IV clindomiacine, or vancomaycine. I hope your not just taking an oral medication, you should have an ontiment, a specail soap. also stop shaving, and if you are on birth control, it is known to cause more sores.
Avatar n tn I now have experienced daily bleeding from my rectum in my stools (which are very loose) - the blood is apparent. I am reluctant to go back to the hospital. I need to know what this bleeding is in reference to... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have mrsa in my right forearm by my elbow. I went to the ER three days ago and they got all of the puss out and gave me an antibiotic that I have to take for ten days. I do know that not all antibiotics will work. My question is, I am scheduled to have an abortion November 10th, can I still do it?
Avatar f tn You are speaking half-truths. MRSA is susceptible to all antibiotics to varying degrees. Most likely the antibiotic was prematurely discontinued, or she has an infection elsewhere and reinfected herself when she rubbed her eye. Similarly helibactor pylori requres administration of three different antibiotics (tripple therapy) to eliminate the infection in the stomach from this troublesome organism.
Avatar m tn You can have MRSA without having a fever. You should definitely get it checked by your doctor, though, since its not going away. Even if it's not MRSA, it could be something else that needs an antibiotic to heal.
Avatar f tn She developed MRSA in the wound. My question is we are a gay couple, can she transmit MRSA to me via oral sex?
Avatar n tn You need to see your doctor again. there are much better choices of antibiotics for you for mrsa. Also if it won't clear up with oral antibiotics, you might need different treatment. Do you have a regular partner? If so have they been tested for herpes? If you don't have a regular partner, how long after the last time you had sex did you have the blood test done?
Avatar f tn My little brother has Mrsa and supposedly that's really contagious and now I'm freaking out that I might have it... he's on antibiotics but still.... is it bad to be around someone with it ..
Avatar n tn My girlfriend has developed a MRSA infection (on her arm). She is being treated with IV antibiotics. Should i stay away from sex with her; from all contact with her?
Avatar f tn The times when you get reinfected even when on antibiotics means the MRSA is resistant to that antibiotic or partially resistant. What antibiotics has the ID doc had you on? Are you allergic to penicillin or sulfa drugs? There are a couple of antibiotics that are new that are for resistant strains of MRSA. The problem is some of these antibiotics can ruin your hearing and kidneys. So, the doctor may be trying to save these.
Avatar f tn they gave me antibiotics. Today I went to my Primary Care for a check up. I told him about my nose issue. It has come and gone for a few months, and I told him that. He swabbed my nose to see if I had MRSA or I am a a MRSA carrier. I am FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW....I am a teacher! I feel like if I have MRSA OR if I am a carrier, I can't teach! We have a field trip scheduled for tomorrow and I can't miss it. I am a mess right now. If I am a carrier, what does that mean??
Avatar n tn On day 3 of hospital stay, the results came back from a sputum sample pin poinint MRSA. We were required to enter her room with gloves, mask, and gown on any visits. At times a dr would come in, listen to her lungs, without any of the precautions taken. If this is so infectious, then why do some have to "suit up" and other's don't. I can't get a straight answer from anyone. I am worried because I have been feeling very tired lately and have a bit of a cough.
Avatar f tn You have to get on just the right antibiotics which may take several to get ride of the infection. Then to check if it is truly gone you can get a nose sawb test but you have have it checked twice or everytime you go to the hospital they will suiteup like you are some kind of nastey person they are afraid to touch. But MRSA is very easy to pass on to other people. Over look my spelling but I do know what I am talking about, my daughter is an RN that works in a large hospital.
Avatar f tn I think you should see another doctor to get diagnosed by having either a culture done or molecular test to confirm that you have a staph aureus and/or MRSA infection. MRSA is just the form of staph that is more resistant to antibiotics. You don't normally spread staph aureus or MRSA by hugging because the clothes cover the area. So if the area is covered you should be okay.
Avatar n tn I just spent 3 months fighting MRSA, the best way and the only way to tell is to go get a simple swab test from your dr. If it is MRSA and left untreated like mine was your looking at a world of trouble. My eyes swelled shut, I almost lost all vision in my left eye, my face is permanantly scared. Go get the test its simple and they can put you on the right antibiotics but above all else if you suspect MRSA, avoid touching the kids. Kids can carry MRSA in their noses without ever getting it.
652671 tn?1353712165 I just wanted to add a tidbit of information out there that was a little disturbing to me, and still might affect me. Also, I was wondering if anyone else might be affected by this. We all know what MRSA is, right? Antibiotic resistant Staph. Usually not a big deal if it is localized and treated accordingly ... Well, about a month before I found out i was pregnant, my 3 year old was diagnosed with Impetigo caused by MRSA.
Avatar f tn More people have died from MRSA than AIDS in the last few years. ALWAYS get infections looked at. As well as MRSA you have to be careful to need antibiotics, the more we use the less we are capable of using later. PLEASE go see a doctor.
Avatar f tn Hello~I am glad you went to ER to have this matter checked out and are now on antibiotics. Have you made an appointment to see your regular GP? I am not sure if MRSA can cause numbness in the affected area or not, I guess it is possible. I agree with the other poster, until you get your results just use extra precautions it is always better to err on the side of safety. I hope all turns out well for you.
1467965 tn?1288901625 I think she me be referring to MRSA - Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. There is a variant known as community-associated (CA-) MRSA infections vs. the more traditional healthcare-associated (HA-) MRSA infections, CA-MRSA can be treated with more drugs than HA-MRSA including to sulfa drugs, tetracyclines and clindamycin. CA-MRSA is typically associated with skin and wound infections, In the UK, it is called Golden Staph.
Avatar m tn I am still trying to deal with all the new procedures I have to adopt now that i know I have MRSA. I don't like it, my hands are raw from washing and I'm scared that i'm going to give it to those around me. No one can give me a straight answer about this disease and they all take a step or two back when i tell them, even my doctors. I'm feeling a little isolated. I think with time I will adapt but i have one question that I want answered badly.
Avatar f tn First, you don't become resistant to antibiotics, but the bacteria your carry do. If you have MRSA in your urine, it could be causing a UTI especiallly if you have chronic infections but Staph aureus in the urine is many times an indication of an infection somewhere else. Bactrim certainly won't treat this. I would want to see at least a urologist if not an infectious disease doctor.
Avatar f tn MRSA or methicilin resistant staph areus is a bacteria that is fairly resistant to many antibiotics. It can be diagnosed with a swab of the affected area (or if it is in the lungs, a sputum sample) and cultured out in a lab. You don't have to have sores on the skin in order for MRSA to be present in the lungs, that much is certain. I am not a doctor, just a former nurse who helped treat people with MRSA in their lungs...
Avatar f tn The more serious MRSA infections, ARE becoming increasingly difficult to treat; however some antibiotics will work. MRSA is a perfect example of what could happen if people incorrectly self presecribe or not take their entire medication; the pathogen will become resistant to our medication for it. See an infectious disease specialist to treat your grandaughter. Also practicse good hygiene and take pre cautions around the house to prevent further outbreaks or of infecting others.
