So, you can have cases which respond well to treatment. On the other hand there could be strains which are beginning to develop resistance to what was once effective in treating them.
Avatar m tn Obviously we should wait until the cuts are all healed and I complete the rounds of antibiotics. However, everything I have read about mrsa does not discuss how to disinfect healthy skin of staph, only to keep wounds covered. We are ok with abstaining while I am healing but we do not want this infection to compromise our marriage. What should we do?
Avatar f tn all this went away for about a month. now it is back. im worried the mrsa is active again. does she need more antibiotics. i know mrsa is resistant to most antibiotics, but shouldnt you try them to see if they will work?
Avatar n tn t affect you, think again. A prominent example of the dangers of antibiotic resistance is the spread of MRSA — or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. MRSA was once a concern only for people in the hospital, but a newer form of MRSA is causing infections in healthy people in the community. Antibiotic resistance occurs when antibiotics no longer work against disease-causing bacteria.
1712590 tn?1352392772 When I swallow I feel a bunch in my throat behind right ear canal. This is swollen and soar. Also have been getting migraine headaches that are soar to touch on right side crest of my head front to back. I have a deviated septum, and on right side of nose is a deformed bone. My optometrist says it's not from my Graves Disease. I also have been found to have MRSA in my nares. What can I do for migraines?
1415174 tn?1453243103 This Staph can become resistant to multiple antibiotics. It is also referred to as MRSA short for Methicillin Resistant Staph aureus. Methicillin is one type of antibiotic. So it is possible that he had a resistant strain of staph or a toxin caused by a Strep. Did you find out the type of bacteria? They can do a culture or molecular test of the skin infection to determine what type of bacteria it is.
Avatar m tn Now as for the Staph infection or possibly MRSA. that is more serious really. Did they give you antibiotics for it? Try to not scratch it and keep your hands away as much as possible until it is gone as it can spread. Keep underwear, clothes and towels washed and separate. They may be testing the bug for resistance and may change your antibiotic if it turns out not to be MRSA but regular senstive staph methicillin sensitive staph aureus. (MSSA).
Avatar m tn Aureus (staphylococcus aureus) - run! It is hard to control because it has started to show resistance to a lot of antibiotics. I would just be extra cautious if you have any injury and are at swimming pools or gyms. Apparently staph likes these environments plus hospitals have occasional outbreaks of staph infections. Sorry, maybe I am paranoid since reading the book "The Killers Within"....
Avatar f tn There are a couple of antibiotics that are new that are for resistant strains of MRSA. The problem is some of these antibiotics can ruin your hearing and kidneys. So, the doctor may be trying to save these. If all else failed then they would give it to you (if it became totally life threatening or got into your blood). But you can let me know what antibiotics they have used and I can take a look. So, it does sound like you have been very diligent in handling the Staph.
Avatar f tn Hello, in 2005 my mother was diagnosed with MRSA due to drainage from a back surgery and one day she woke up not feeling good and when we got her to hospital MRSA had invaded her entire body and my mom almost died. However the MRSA caused her to loose her ability to walk, control her bowel and bladder and it destroyed the nerves and after having MRSA, she constantly got infections of other kinds.
1666982 tn?1445198395 Just a small point. We all have Staphlococcus aureus on our skin and up our noses. Twenty years ago about 20% of us carried the methicillin resistant version. This has now risen to 60% due to the overuse of antibiotics for any little viral syndrome. MRSA is no more virulent than the resistance form, it's just resistant to the common antibiotics. Carrying a bacteria that is present on 60% of the general population is hardly a reason for disability.
577106 tn?1219839345 For a local skin MRSA infection, draining the skin sore is often the only treatment needed. However. for more serious MRSA infections, antibiotics that may still work include vancomycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, linezolid, tetracycline, or clindamycin. In your case, if a culture and sensitivity test was done and it showed it is sensitive to a particular antibiotic, this may treat the infection.
Avatar m tn Some people have less resistance and the resistance also decreases with intake of continuous antibiotics. You would need to check your antibody levels. I would also suggest you to eat healthy and diet rich in proteins and calcium. I would suggest you to consider blood culture and also the culture of the tissue surrounding the implant and also culture of the pus. Follow up with a microbiologist along with your regular orthopedician and infectious diseases specialist. Take care!
Avatar m tn I then have been on 2 antibiotics since and the infection is in decline. Seems the greatest effect on this MRSA/or similar infection is the Chamomile Oil. Could this be a possible help in the fight against this tricky infection??
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar m tn Ok. I have been on and off antibiotics for mrsa for the last 2 months. Mostly Bactrim. Problem is the mrsa keeps returning. I have had 2 negative nare and armpit swaps. But they say it's still mrsa and the infection keeps coming back. Anyways. I continue decolonization and abx treatment. But I started to notice my stools getting loose. Then today I went to have the runs and all that came out was a little mucous and blood. Blood was bright red. No stool. Worried about c diff.
Avatar n tn Whic after internet research I found out these particular antibiotics are inaffective against MRSA. As was the antibiotic ointment prescribed for my eye.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have mrsa in my right forearm by my elbow. I went to the ER three days ago and they got all of the puss out and gave me an antibiotic that I have to take for ten days. I do know that not all antibiotics will work. My question is, I am scheduled to have an abortion November 10th, can I still do it?
Avatar m tn i have gone to hospital and they tell me that i have mrsa i have drank the antibotics requested and it is noty working can you please tell me what to do
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar f tn Although there are a few strains that are resistant to even these drugs, many cases of MRSA can be cleared up this way. For severe cases, antibiotics may be administered in the hospital via IV. This allows the medicine to go directly to the bloodstream where it will have a faster effect. Preventing MRSA vaginal infections is a matter of practicing good hygiene and health habits. MRSA can be avoided by regular washing of the body with antibacterial soap.
Avatar f tn We are at the end of our rope. My 17 year old daughter has been getting MRSA for about 3 years. We have tried everything we know to do. She is allergic to sulfur drugs so those are not an option for her. She gets abscesses at least once every 1.5 to 2 weeks sometimes more. We were at our local Childrens hospital last night to have a very large one drained. She was on Zyvox during Thanksgiving and we were free of abscesses for 3 weeks. That is the longest she has gone without having one.
Avatar n tn You need to see your doctor again. there are much better choices of antibiotics for you for mrsa. Also if it won't clear up with oral antibiotics, you might need different treatment. Do you have a regular partner? If so have they been tested for herpes? If you don't have a regular partner, how long after the last time you had sex did you have the blood test done?
Avatar f tn My little brother has Mrsa and supposedly that's really contagious and now I'm freaking out that I might have it... he's on antibiotics but still.... is it bad to be around someone with it ..
Avatar n tn My girlfriend has developed a MRSA infection (on her arm). She is being treated with IV antibiotics. Should i stay away from sex with her; from all contact with her?
Avatar f tn This came from Yahoo Plastic surgery patients have carried a new class of superbugs resistant to almost all antibiotics from South Asia to Britain and they could spread worldwide, researchers reported Wednesday. Many hospital infections that were already difficult to treat have become even more impervious to drugs thanks to a recently discovered gene that can jump across different species of bacteria.
