antibiotics

Avatar m tn Ok. I have been on and off antibiotics for mrsa for the last 2 months. Mostly Bactrim. Problem is the mrsa keeps returning. I have had 2 negative nare and armpit swaps. But they say it's still mrsa and the infection keeps coming back. Anyways. I continue decolonization and abx treatment. But I started to notice my stools getting loose. Then today I went to have the runs and all that came out was a little mucous and blood. Blood was bright red. No stool. Worried about c diff.
Avatar n tn You need to see your doctor again. there are much better choices of antibiotics for you for mrsa. Also if it won't clear up with oral antibiotics, you might need different treatment. Do you have a regular partner? If so have they been tested for herpes? If you don't have a regular partner, how long after the last time you had sex did you have the blood test done?
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar f tn that MRSA is not an STD pre say, but like Hep B, C and syphilis it can be transmitted by exposure to blood/open lesion. MRSA is usally caught in the hospital, and then at the gym. The more serious MRSA infections, ARE becoming increasingly difficult to treat; however some antibiotics will work. MRSA is a perfect example of what could happen if people incorrectly self presecribe or not take their entire medication; the pathogen will become resistant to our medication for it.
Avatar n tn Whic after internet research I found out these particular antibiotics are inaffective against MRSA. As was the antibiotic ointment prescribed for my eye.
Avatar f tn Just quit working there a month ago because of this... I have had mrsa for a while now been on antibiotics for 2 months now doxycicline.
Avatar f tn Although there are a few strains that are resistant to even these drugs, many cases of MRSA can be cleared up this way. For severe cases, antibiotics may be administered in the hospital via IV. This allows the medicine to go directly to the bloodstream where it will have a faster effect. Preventing MRSA vaginal infections is a matter of practicing good hygiene and health habits. MRSA can be avoided by regular washing of the body with antibacterial soap.
Avatar f tn If it gets left untreated then it will get deeper and more swollen and you risk it getting in your blood stream which can be fatal. Mrsa is treatable during pregnancy and if you have symptoms go in and they can lance it open and swab it, they will put you on antibiotics and probably send you home with papers on cellulitious and wait for the culture to come back (which takes 3 days).
Avatar f tn If your sister's blood counts are low because of a damaged liver, it may be harder to fight off the infection. If she is currently on treatment, it may cause problems as well due to low blood counts. If she is currently not on treatment and and blood work is ok, shouldn't be a problem. She will have to remain diligent about fighting the MRSA. My daughter had MRSA and it took 4 rounds of antibiotics to finally clear it up. It is very difficult to clear up and she is extremely healthy.
Avatar f tn There are a couple of antibiotics that are new that are for resistant strains of MRSA. The problem is some of these antibiotics can ruin your hearing and kidneys. So, the doctor may be trying to save these. If all else failed then they would give it to you (if it became totally life threatening or got into your blood). But you can let me know what antibiotics they have used and I can take a look. So, it does sound like you have been very diligent in handling the Staph.
577106 tn?1219839345 t know if this is were I should be posting this question, but there are no forums for MRSA or staph so I took a chance. If I need to be in another forum please let me know and I will look there. On to my question..so is MRSA curable? If the bacteria shows sensitivity to an antibiotic is the antibiotic more likely to kill the germ? My problem is I have read on the internet and been told two different things, yes it can and no it can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with mrsa in my sweat glands. The first outbreak was under my right arm and I was treated with antibiotics. It appeared to have gone away. Now, about a month later, it is back and now in both arm pits. My family doctor has placed me on antibiotics again. This is extremely painful and it makes it worse because my bullet proof vest rubs the very large boils. Would it be beneficial to ask to have my sweat glands removed? What type doctor best treats this type of infection?
Avatar f tn Clindamycin is notorious for causing c diff and antibiotic associated colitis....sounds like what you're having. Although typically with c diff and AA colitis you have watery diarrhea before the mucus. What's happening is its stripping the mucus membrane that lines your digestive system. Not fun at all. You need to hydrate yourself as much as you can and go see your doctor. If its severe enough they have medications to stop it, and there are antibiotics specifically for c diff.
Avatar f tn First, you don't become resistant to antibiotics, but the bacteria your carry do. If you have MRSA in your urine, it could be causing a UTI especiallly if you have chronic infections but Staph aureus in the urine is many times an indication of an infection somewhere else. Bactrim certainly won't treat this. I would want to see at least a urologist if not an infectious disease doctor.
Avatar n tn I have had MRSA several times. The last one was in my mastoid bone in both ears that was cleared up this past January. Well I have come down with a boil on the left side of my face next to the eye that was lanced and cultured today. It hurts like hell and it has a bandage that covers it. Now it is starting to itch. I also have a boil on my eyelid that is continuing to grow. It was nothing last night and now it has become big enough to where the eye looks swollen.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have mrsa in my right forearm by my elbow. I went to the ER three days ago and they got all of the puss out and gave me an antibiotic that I have to take for ten days. I do know that not all antibiotics will work. My question is, I am scheduled to have an abortion November 10th, can I still do it?
Avatar m tn i have gone to hospital and they tell me that i have mrsa i have drank the antibotics requested and it is noty working can you please tell me what to do
12602759 tn?1426187969 My wife is currently in Folsom Women Facility, she got a spider bite and when they took her blood they told her that her hepatitis is really bad, and that she has MRSA. Since that spider bite she has had a headache everyday, blood pressure 157/88 and her hep c got worse. Can MRSA cause her hepatitis get worse, and what about constant headaches every day. Help please. They do not offer treatment at this prison.
Avatar n tn not finishing antibiotics will only make the MRSA resistant to whatever antibiotic your daughter used! I should know...I have MRSA. If you want more information please feel free to contact me. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn the wound and said with all the oral antibiotics she is MRSA free. My question is what risks am I subject to with MRSA? This process has been going on for two months and besides living with me and sharing a toilet, I have been with her to help her through all these difficulties at two different hospitals and the nursing home which are all riddled with infections. What should I do to protect myself?
Avatar f tn Hello~I am glad you went to ER to have this matter checked out and are now on antibiotics. Have you made an appointment to see your regular GP? I am not sure if MRSA can cause numbness in the affected area or not, I guess it is possible. I agree with the other poster, until you get your results just use extra precautions it is always better to err on the side of safety. I hope all turns out well for you.
Avatar f tn all this went away for about a month. now it is back. im worried the mrsa is active again. does she need more antibiotics. i know mrsa is resistant to most antibiotics, but shouldnt you try them to see if they will work?
Avatar m tn About a year ago I noticed an infection on the side of my body, I headed to the clinic where I was told it was an infection from a pimple. I was given antibiotics but it did not help (misdiagnosis). I kept the area clean and placed a bandage over it as it was an open wounds that was bleeding and pussing. After my wound was healed I realized that it was not a pimple but rather a mosquito bite that was most likely infected. The infection was healed and a scar remains (a bump).
Avatar f tn Hello, in 2005 my mother was diagnosed with MRSA due to drainage from a back surgery and one day she woke up not feeling good and when we got her to hospital MRSA had invaded her entire body and my mom almost died. However the MRSA caused her to loose her ability to walk, control her bowel and bladder and it destroyed the nerves and after having MRSA, she constantly got infections of other kinds.
441951 tn?1275762988 d like to drop kick your doctor for giving you 4 rounds of penicillin based antibiotics knowing the infection was resistant to it. MRSA is nothing to fool around with and if it can get into your blood stream and cause serious problems. CoWriter was spot on about how you should get this resolved (she's pretty smart about the medical stuff) and I hope very soon for your sake. Good Luck and feel better soon.
Avatar f tn We are at the end of our rope. My 17 year old daughter has been getting MRSA for about 3 years. We have tried everything we know to do. She is allergic to sulfur drugs so those are not an option for her. She gets abscesses at least once every 1.5 to 2 weeks sometimes more. We were at our local Childrens hospital last night to have a very large one drained. She was on Zyvox during Thanksgiving and we were free of abscesses for 3 weeks. That is the longest she has gone without having one.
1422823 tn?1287679280 So, my PCP called me with the lab results for my pre-op testing and she said I tested positive for MRSA , and a slightly elevated white blood cell count. She said it was nothing to be concerned about but has this happened to anyone else before?
