Antibiotics mrsa positive patients

Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics mrsa positive patients

antibiotics

Avatar f tn I just found out I have mrsa in my right forearm by my elbow. I went to the ER three days ago and they got all of the puss out and gave me an antibiotic that I have to take for ten days. I do know that not all antibiotics will work. My question is, I am scheduled to have an abortion November 10th, can I still do it?
Avatar f tn There are a couple of antibiotics that are new that are for resistant strains of MRSA. The problem is some of these antibiotics can ruin your hearing and kidneys. So, the doctor may be trying to save these. If all else failed then they would give it to you (if it became totally life threatening or got into your blood). But you can let me know what antibiotics they have used and I can take a look. So, it does sound like you have been very diligent in handling the Staph.
Avatar f tn This is quite interesting stuff woconnor. I have already been told that the foot wound is colonized. I requested a culture be taken three weeks ago and just found out a couple of weeks ago that I was MRSA positive but was not told there wasn't any infection going. Matter of fact, they were getting a pre-authorization ready to go for Zyvox.... Amazing, no infection, but I was going to get a antibotic? Just don't understand.
1666982 tn?1445198395 Just a small point. We all have Staphlococcus aureus on our skin and up our noses. Twenty years ago about 20% of us carried the methicillin resistant version. This has now risen to 60% due to the overuse of antibiotics for any little viral syndrome. MRSA is no more virulent than the resistance form, it's just resistant to the common antibiotics. Carrying a bacteria that is present on 60% of the general population is hardly a reason for disability.
Avatar f tn hi , i have a wierd question i have been reading about mrsa in hospitals and i am worried about mrsa after my c- section .
652671 tn?1353712165 I just wanted to add a tidbit of information out there that was a little disturbing to me, and still might affect me. Also, I was wondering if anyone else might be affected by this. We all know what MRSA is, right? Antibiotic resistant Staph. Usually not a big deal if it is localized and treated accordingly ... Well, about a month before I found out i was pregnant, my 3 year old was diagnosed with Impetigo caused by MRSA.
Avatar n tn You need to see your doctor again. there are much better choices of antibiotics for you for mrsa. Also if it won't clear up with oral antibiotics, you might need different treatment. Do you have a regular partner? If so have they been tested for herpes? If you don't have a regular partner, how long after the last time you had sex did you have the blood test done?
Avatar f tn all this went away for about a month. now it is back. im worried the mrsa is active again. does she need more antibiotics. i know mrsa is resistant to most antibiotics, but shouldnt you try them to see if they will work?
Avatar f tn I have MRSA (found through colonization of urine due to UTI). I have had chronic UTI's for years now and my dr just treats them with antibiotics everytime and does an ultrasound to make sure nothing serious going on in there like cancer or kidney disease. I do not have a skin infection....I am experiencing UTI symptoms, fatigue, my whole body is very sore and achy especially my neck and shoulders and lower back. Have been through 2 weeks of Bactrim DS and three days after I finished meds..
Avatar f tn Hi, Well talk to your doctor again - once the culture comes out to be positive for some organism like MRSA in your case - the lab generally also does a sensitivity - the antibiotics to which the organism is sensitive are also reported - which helps in deciding the choice of antibiotics. Was this done in your case? You could wait and see if your lesions respond. If not you could see an infectious disease specialist. Do let us know what the doctor advises. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi and sorry if this happened to you or your family. I didn't have this happen to us but what does cause this is not enough hand washing from person to person, overcrowded hospitals, contaminated surfaces and items that should be sterile or cleaned (such as counter tops) and general lack of cleanliness. It did happen to my friends mother and she passed away. They are now trying to screen employees and incoming patients' noses for MRSA or SA (Staph aureus).
Avatar f tn s what I know about MRSA and Hep C...First of all, many people who are treated for systemic MRSA (when it gets in your blood) have horrible after effects from the very very strong antibiotics. The antibiotics can cause hepatitis (non c) and kidney damage all by themselves in healthy people.
Avatar f tn t specifically tested for MRSA, my doc agreed that it looked like MRSA and since I had it before, he put me on a whole bunch of Bactrim, like 3200 mg/day. I already had all kinds of "back door" problems going on from the HepC and possibly further aggravated by the trial meds. Bactrim really exacerbated those problems big time. My use of Bactrim wasn't what I would call "prolonged", either. But it really jacked me up, they pulled me off it.
Avatar f tn leave holes. Cellulitis occurs quite frequently and it starts with chills and fever and headache. He keeps antibiotics on hand and takes lasix to reduce fluids and his pain meds and it usually goes away in a few days. I fear contacting MRSA more than Hep C just residing in the same house. He was a nurse and is much aware of and careful not to let anyone come in contact with his blood or fluids. We have no physical contact. Should I be more concerned about my contacting MRSA?
Avatar n tn In the rehab center, they told us she now has MRSA pneumonia. What are her chances of overcoming all of this? She is on a trach and at times seems very coherent. How much longer do we let her endure all of this? She never says she's in pain or uncomfortable. Is there a real chance of her surviving it and having a good quality of life? How do you do discontinue a trach when the patient has coherent moments? Please respond soon.
Avatar n tn My seven year old had a bite on her leg that got very infected, I took her to the doctor and they told me that it was most likely staph and put her on antibiotics. Since then she has twice gotten 2 to 3 large pustules on her scalp. They are very painful and have a moderate amount of green puss. The first outbreak was three sores that appeared on the front of her scalp and lasted about 2 days, the second time was 2 that appeared on the nape of the neck. Could this be staph???
Avatar n tn went to the dr. and was blood tested for hsv 2 - positive - 5.0. dr. put me on valtrex for 1 week - symptoms didn't go away. was put on valtrex for another wk - still didn't go away. was told to see a dermatologist. 2 months later, puss bumps are now cuts with hard white balls in them - feels like the hard white stuff is sticking me. only feel relief if i can dig them out, which makes my skin bleed, which means an open sore, and pain. been popping aspirin left and right.
577106 tn?1219839345 t know if this is were I should be posting this question, but there are no forums for MRSA or staph so I took a chance. If I need to be in another forum please let me know and I will look there. On to my question..so is MRSA curable? If the bacteria shows sensitivity to an antibiotic is the antibiotic more likely to kill the germ? My problem is I have read on the internet and been told two different things, yes it can and no it can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar m tn Ok. I have been on and off antibiotics for mrsa for the last 2 months. Mostly Bactrim. Problem is the mrsa keeps returning. I have had 2 negative nare and armpit swaps. But they say it's still mrsa and the infection keeps coming back. Anyways. I continue decolonization and abx treatment. But I started to notice my stools getting loose. Then today I went to have the runs and all that came out was a little mucous and blood. Blood was bright red. No stool. Worried about c diff.
Avatar f tn Hello~I am glad you went to ER to have this matter checked out and are now on antibiotics. Have you made an appointment to see your regular GP? I am not sure if MRSA can cause numbness in the affected area or not, I guess it is possible. I agree with the other poster, until you get your results just use extra precautions it is always better to err on the side of safety. I hope all turns out well for you.
Avatar n tn Hi My daughter of 13 weeks (adopted from Ethiopia) has been diagnosed with ESBL resistant salmonella concord (hope I have said it right). Also with MRSA positive swabs in her nose and throat. Now I don't know if I am posting this in the right place but...... what I wanted to know is ...... both of these are resistant to antibiotics......
Avatar m tn I had a nasal swab test done four years ago which came back positive for staph aureus, though doctors did not mention MRSA. Over the next few years I went to other doctors and a dermatologist, given such medications as bactrim, clindamycin, doxycyclin, mupirocin ointment, etc. None have worked. I went to a primary care doctor last week who performed a general bacterial culture on one of the sores I squeezed and sent of to the lab.
Avatar n tn Whic after internet research I found out these particular antibiotics are inaffective against MRSA. As was the antibiotic ointment prescribed for my eye.
Avatar m tn i have gone to hospital and they tell me that i have mrsa i have drank the antibotics requested and it is noty working can you please tell me what to do
