Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics mrsa colonization

antibiotics

Avatar f tn I have MRSA (found through colonization of urine due to UTI). I have had chronic UTI's for years now and my dr just treats them with antibiotics everytime and does an ultrasound to make sure nothing serious going on in there like cancer or kidney disease. I do not have a skin infection....I am experiencing UTI symptoms, fatigue, my whole body is very sore and achy especially my neck and shoulders and lower back. Have been through 2 weeks of Bactrim DS and three days after I finished meds..
Avatar f tn I was prescribed bactrim as an antibiotic after a colonization of MRSA was found in my nose. Initially on Cephalaxin, for an abcess, but what switched over to bactrim, even though the abcess did not show any MRSA. I took my two pills for the day, and within 30 minutes after taking the last dose, my ankles began to itch... within another 30 minutes, it spread up my legs, I fell asleep, woke up, and the rash spread to my upper arms, my chest, and stomach (minimal in the last two areas).
Avatar m tn Firstly you should know that few cannot tolerate particular antibiotics, in such cases alternative antibiotics can help. Antibiotics are quiet important in cases of bacterial infection which will reduce the duration of illness. Apart from antibiotics, anti pyretic, taking nutritious diet including fruit juices will improve the immunity. Body has its own immunity and will be able to take care of infection.
Avatar n tn My mothers first PM was rejected to to infection and her second is threatening to do the same. She goes in tomorrow for IV antibiotics. What are some questions I can ask the Dr? What are her options?. The Dr. doesn't have high hopes of success in regard to the antibiotics.
Avatar f tn My lungs are clear on xray and when listened to--no chest pain, increased heart rate, chills, or breathlessness unless coughing spell that lasts some time (seldom). The issue is that a "normal bronchial" infection for me hasn't occurred in six years..have had two pneumonia vaccines..five years apart, the culture is what showed (now I know) mrsa..Pulmonary doc thinks I was colonized some time ago(had Staph Epidermis..gram neg) with hip refraction and spacer, vanco etc.
577106 tn?1219839345 t know if this is were I should be posting this question, but there are no forums for MRSA or staph so I took a chance. If I need to be in another forum please let me know and I will look there. On to my question..so is MRSA curable? If the bacteria shows sensitivity to an antibiotic is the antibiotic more likely to kill the germ? My problem is I have read on the internet and been told two different things, yes it can and no it can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar m tn Ok. I have been on and off antibiotics for mrsa for the last 2 months. Mostly Bactrim. Problem is the mrsa keeps returning. I have had 2 negative nare and armpit swaps. But they say it's still mrsa and the infection keeps coming back. Anyways. I continue decolonization and abx treatment. But I started to notice my stools getting loose. Then today I went to have the runs and all that came out was a little mucous and blood. Blood was bright red. No stool. Worried about c diff.
Avatar n tn Whic after internet research I found out these particular antibiotics are inaffective against MRSA. As was the antibiotic ointment prescribed for my eye.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have mrsa in my right forearm by my elbow. I went to the ER three days ago and they got all of the puss out and gave me an antibiotic that I have to take for ten days. I do know that not all antibiotics will work. My question is, I am scheduled to have an abortion November 10th, can I still do it?
Avatar m tn i have gone to hospital and they tell me that i have mrsa i have drank the antibotics requested and it is noty working can you please tell me what to do
Avatar f tn all this went away for about a month. now it is back. im worried the mrsa is active again. does she need more antibiotics. i know mrsa is resistant to most antibiotics, but shouldnt you try them to see if they will work?
Avatar f tn Although there are a few strains that are resistant to even these drugs, many cases of MRSA can be cleared up this way. For severe cases, antibiotics may be administered in the hospital via IV. This allows the medicine to go directly to the bloodstream where it will have a faster effect. Preventing MRSA vaginal infections is a matter of practicing good hygiene and health habits. MRSA can be avoided by regular washing of the body with antibacterial soap.
Avatar f tn We are at the end of our rope. My 17 year old daughter has been getting MRSA for about 3 years. We have tried everything we know to do. She is allergic to sulfur drugs so those are not an option for her. She gets abscesses at least once every 1.5 to 2 weeks sometimes more. We were at our local Childrens hospital last night to have a very large one drained. She was on Zyvox during Thanksgiving and we were free of abscesses for 3 weeks. That is the longest she has gone without having one.
Avatar n tn You need to see your doctor again. there are much better choices of antibiotics for you for mrsa. Also if it won't clear up with oral antibiotics, you might need different treatment. Do you have a regular partner? If so have they been tested for herpes? If you don't have a regular partner, how long after the last time you had sex did you have the blood test done?
Avatar f tn My little brother has Mrsa and supposedly that's really contagious and now I'm freaking out that I might have it... he's on antibiotics but still.... is it bad to be around someone with it ..
Avatar n tn My girlfriend has developed a MRSA infection (on her arm). She is being treated with IV antibiotics. Should i stay away from sex with her; from all contact with her?
Avatar f tn Here in the us they do iv antibiotics (which can kead to antibiotic resistance in the newborn but different soap box for another day!) Well upon read in it states if you do a hibiclens of your vagina/rectum 6 hours before your gbs test it will cure gbs colonization if you have it thus giving you a gbs neg test! Have you ladies heard of this?
Avatar f tn There are a couple of antibiotics that are new that are for resistant strains of MRSA. The problem is some of these antibiotics can ruin your hearing and kidneys. So, the doctor may be trying to save these. If all else failed then they would give it to you (if it became totally life threatening or got into your blood). But you can let me know what antibiotics they have used and I can take a look. So, it does sound like you have been very diligent in handling the Staph.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with mrsa in my sweat glands. The first outbreak was under my right arm and I was treated with antibiotics. It appeared to have gone away. Now, about a month later, it is back and now in both arm pits. My family doctor has placed me on antibiotics again. This is extremely painful and it makes it worse because my bullet proof vest rubs the very large boils. Would it be beneficial to ask to have my sweat glands removed? What type doctor best treats this type of infection?
Avatar f tn Just quit working there a month ago because of this... I have had mrsa for a while now been on antibiotics for 2 months now doxycicline.
Avatar f tn The syndrome referred to as Allergic Fungal Sinusitis links the development of allergies to foods, pollens and chemicals with fungal colonization of the sinus. These allergies lessen when fungal colonization is treated. Blood testing for IgG levels to mold and foods are helpful and Mayo Clinic has the only reliable fungal culture technique available. Another useful test is the serum eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) level, which increases as eosinophils are activated by mold and parasites.
Avatar f tn Hello~I am glad you went to ER to have this matter checked out and are now on antibiotics. Have you made an appointment to see your regular GP? I am not sure if MRSA can cause numbness in the affected area or not, I guess it is possible. I agree with the other poster, until you get your results just use extra precautions it is always better to err on the side of safety. I hope all turns out well for you.
1467965 tn?1288901625 There is a variant known as community-associated (CA-) MRSA infections vs. the more traditional healthcare-associated (HA-) MRSA infections, CA-MRSA can be treated with more drugs than HA-MRSA including to sulfa drugs, tetracyclines and clindamycin. CA-MRSA is typically associated with skin and wound infections, In the UK, it is called Golden Staph.
Avatar m tn t be hypervigilant and use anti-bacterial soaps and cleaners--this only encourages the MRSA staph to mutate and become stronger and more resistant, as does using antibiotics. I would stay away from antibiotics unless my life depends on it. Try natural remedies instead, like nascent iodine, pao d'arco, garlic, etc. A good place for more info is at naturalnews-dot-com.
Avatar f tn She had no sores or rash, and did not know she had the disease. Her husband was later diagnosed with MRSA..and has been told by doctors he is a MRSA carrier. I have a family member who was just diagnosed with pnuemonia...who was extremely exposed to a person who formerly had MRSA, and who was bleeding onto her..her face, nose, eyes and uppper body. I am concerned she couold have MRSA pnuemonia also..but her doctors are telling her there is no such thing...
