Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram for brain aneurysm

angiogram

Avatar n tn t know about pain moving up to the bottom of the ribs, although it could make sense....I would suggest signing up for brain aneurysm connection on msn...they have a pretty good community of people that have been through multiple angiograms and may be able to anwer your question. The doctor I saw sent me to a vascular tech to have the artery looked at as we watched it over a week or so and I felt really taken care of.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the advice. I go in next week for an angiogram to rule out a dural fistula. Hope it gets ruled out!
Avatar m tn He was admitted in hospital due to fever where aneurysm may have potentially ruptured, seized for 3 hours, lot of blood in his brain, went through coiling surgery, had 2 angioplasty to control cerebral vasospasm. As of today he is moving his right part of the body, left side, off the ventilator(breathing by himself) still cannot track us with eyes, not sure if he can hear....Any insights or expert prognosis is appreciated....
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Cerebral or brain aneurysm is an abnormal widening a brain blood vessel at its weakened area. This may occur as a congenital (present since birth, familial) or may occur later in life due to injury, birth defects, or neurological disorder and it is life-threatening. Most serious consequence is stroke that may occur if this bursts in the brain.
359574 tn?1328360424 Thanks. The only thing it could do on its own would be if a ridiculously lucky piece of plaque would lodge inside of it and start a clot that filled it in. In fact, that is what the interventional radiologists do on purpose when they are able to coil them--form a platinum clot inside the aneurysm so blood can no longer go inside of it and cause it to expand. Dissolving would be a bad thing. That's a hole and a brain bleed.
Avatar m tn I HAVE AN UNRUPTURED 5 MM BRAIN ANEURYSM WHICH APPEARED FOLLOWING A ROUTINE MRA SCAN FOLLOWING OPEN HEAD BRAIN SURGERY TO REMOVE A NON CANCEROUS TUMOUR ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO THE LAST SCAN 15 MONTHS SHOWED NOTHING - MY NEUROSURGEON WANTS ME TO HAVE A DIGITAL SUBTRACTION ANGIOGRAM TO CARRY OUT A MORE DETAILED EVALUATION. HOW DANGEROUS IS THIS TYPE OF SCAN. I KNOW IT HAS IN RISKS IN RELATION TO STROKES ETC., I AM 63 YEARS OF AGE.
Avatar n tn The dictum is that unruptured aneurysm is usually asymptomatic unless they grow large or press vital structures in the brain. Otherwise, ruptured aneurysms can cause subarachnoid hemorrhage with symptoms of sudden onset severe headaches, brief loss of vision or consciousness, stiff neck. Unruptured aneurysm manifests as double vision, new unexplained headaches and pain above and behind the eyes. I would strongly suggest an urgent neurosurgical evaluation.
848718 tn?1257138801 Let me speak for my wife as she had one done in 1994 and it seems like last year! Since you understand the process, let me tell you what my wife's experience as she related it afterwards. It is some what lengthy, a team of neuroradiologists will set you up in a CT scanner, a puncture is made to the artery in the groin area and a thin wire is snaked up through the arterial system until it finally makes its way to the area that is to be studied.
Avatar n tn an aneurysm in one of the brain vessels that was found incidentally, and not thought to be causing symptoms. In general, when an aneurysm is found and the size determined on MRA, sometimes (depending on the quality of the MRA and the appearance of the aneurysm on it) another confirmatory test such as a CT angiogram or cerebral angiogram may need to be done to confirm the presence of the aneurysm, confirm its size, and to exclude the presence of additional aneurysms too small to be seen on MRA.
Avatar m tn Maybe I can request for MRV and Cather to take a better look inside. I was told that some aneurysm can cause shortness of breath because of blood flow carries oxygen. I also will take MRA cardiac for my heart to see if it shows problem again. Let me know what does the report means. Thank you.

Avatar m tn We recommend for this patient to undergo coiling of the intradural segment of the left vertebral artery, in order to exclude the dissecting aneurysm from circulation. Effectively they will block off the left vertebral artery and just left the right vertebral artery supply blood to the brain.. does that sound bad?
Avatar m tn No surgery was necessary and was released since the ruptured vessel closed on its own. It was not considered an aneurysm. Am I susceptible for a reoccurance? I'm on a daily dose 120mg. mild Gkingo natural plant extract blood thinner capsules. No other medication was advised.

Avatar n tn I have just been diagnosed as having a Carotid Aneurysm, what treatment will I need for it.
359574 tn?1328360424 I had my initial appointment with a neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins yesterday about my brain aneurysm. She is not happy with the quality of the angiogram I had done in March, and wants me to have one done at Hopkins. Then she would follow up with me, and also have me see another neuro-ophthalmalogist while I'm there. I will have to schedule it around my work, so it may not be until sometime next year.
Avatar f tn My son in law had a bleeding aneurysm they put in a shunt and took him to angiogram. They couldn't find where it was. I know even a clotted aneurysm should be coiled.
Avatar f tn I know a woman who died recently in her mid 40's from a brain aneurysm. She had a headache for a week and then died in her sleep. It makes you think! I had a workup for headaches 5 1/2 years ago which included an MRI with contrast dye and a CT with contrast dye. Would an aneurysm show on those tests if I had one at that time? (I've seen MRA's mentioned and don't know the difference between that and an MRI.) Also, are aneurysms generally slow growing/forming?
Avatar f tn limping I have pain in my groin down my thigh and cramps up. IT is hard for me to walk for to long pain is consistent and still no answers.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the small aneurysm club. I had an MRA for some headaches I was having back in late June. I got a call a few hours later that scared the heck out of me. They told me I had a 3 mm aneurysm. I fretted for several weeks before I got in to see a neuro. I had already researched surgeries, etc. figuring its a ticking time bomb and surgery was required. To my surprise the neuro really put me at ease and recommended the exact thing as your doc: recheck it in 12 months.
359574 tn?1328360424 He would like for me to have a cerebral angiogram so he can see a better picture of my 5mm aneurysm that was on the MRA taken by my neurologist. Then he will help me decide whether it should be watched or treated, if so how, and whether it could be the cause of my eye pain. The neuro-ophth sticks by her dx of TN and doesn't think the aneurysm is related since it isn't where it could touch the trigeminal nerve branches in the cavernous sinus.
Avatar f tn You should request a CT angiogram or Angiogram of blood vessels in the brain. I suffered for years with headache - without relief from medication. I had the same hallmark symptoms for migraine. You should have the possibility of cerebral aneurysm ruled out. That was my problem - dx with mutiple aneurysms 5 surgeries later I still experience headaches - and avoid sound and light which still can bring me to my knees! Migraine headaches is a blanket dr's jump to and then the pill game begins.
