Common Questions and Answers about Ct angiogram brain aneurysm

angiogram

Avatar m tn Will a MRI or CT without contrast pick up a brain aneurysm? I have no family history of this condition.. I am worried going for a MRA today just to calm my nerves without contrast can anyone help ?
Avatar f tn They found a 4mm carotid aneurysm in my scan last week. I am to get a CT Angiogram Wed and then see the neurosurgeon in August. I am on coumadin due to a blood clot in my sagittal sinus (reason why they found the aneurysm) from 2009. Was just wondering if someone has been through this process before and what I need to expect.
Avatar n tn Hello, I went to the neurologist yesterday and he ordered a CT angiogram. He called me today and advised the ct varified that I have a 3mm anuerysm. He scheduled me for an angiogram in 2 weeks. He told me that he and his co-workers will review the results and give me my options. He advised they could recommend that we only watch it and do nothing unless there are changes or we could go as far as surgery to fix the problem.

Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Cerebral or brain aneurysm is an abnormal widening a brain blood vessel at its weakened area. This may occur as a congenital (present since birth, familial) or may occur later in life due to injury, birth defects, or neurological disorder and it is life-threatening. Most serious consequence is stroke that may occur if this bursts in the brain.
Avatar n tn I would strongly suggest an urgent neurosurgical evaluation. You would need a CT/MRI brain and angiogram to confirm the diagnosis. Surgical clipping and coiling are the proposed surgeries. Wish you all the best and take care.
Avatar m tn I have a 7 week old son has a brain aneurysm rupture at age 4 weeks. I am interested in the prognosis of other infants or young children that have survived an aneurysm through surgery. Any history or information you could share would be appreciated. He was admitted in hospital due to fever where aneurysm may have potentially ruptured, seized for 3 hours, lot of blood in his brain, went through coiling surgery, had 2 angioplasty to control cerebral vasospasm.
Avatar m tn I HAVE AN UNRUPTURED 5 MM BRAIN ANEURYSM WHICH APPEARED FOLLOWING A ROUTINE MRA SCAN FOLLOWING OPEN HEAD BRAIN SURGERY TO REMOVE A NON CANCEROUS TUMOUR ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO THE LAST SCAN 15 MONTHS SHOWED NOTHING - MY NEUROSURGEON WANTS ME TO HAVE A DIGITAL SUBTRACTION ANGIOGRAM TO CARRY OUT A MORE DETAILED EVALUATION. HOW DANGEROUS IS THIS TYPE OF SCAN. I KNOW IT HAS IN RISKS IN RELATION TO STROKES ETC., I AM 63 YEARS OF AGE.
Avatar n tn When it hemorrhages, a person may experience sudden and severe headache, nausea, vomiting, stiff neck, usually the worst headache of life. The CT scan showing blood in the ventricle could be a ruptured aneurysm, hence the doctors want to do an angiogram. The migraine headache is a possibility if the aneurysm is ruled out. The delusions could be part of delusional disorder like bipolar disease or schizophrenia. Resurgence of panic attack is a possibility.
Avatar m tn there is no saccular aneurysm identified (Characterization as aneurysm on prior MR angiogram of the head in September 2016 was likely second to decreased to spatial resolution on MR versus CT). The emergency room doctor only said that mine is thick and do not know size of mm from CTA brain. He suggested that I should see my neurosurgeon to analyze on it. Can anyone tell me what does it means by the report. Thank you. I will have an appointment to see my neurosurgeon on July 24th.

Avatar n tn t know of any advantage to have a stress prior to an CT angiogram! Does your doctor have an opinion? .
Avatar m tn Thanks for your quick reply. A - CT scan and angiogram was performed just after being admitted into intensive emergency care unit. You are correct in assuming the artery was too small and deeply located in the brain. My blood pressure was over 200 following the rupture. They reiterated how lucky I survived this ordeal. Which blood pressure and pulse ratings should I try to maintain? My age is near 60.
Avatar f tn I know a woman who died recently in her mid 40's from a brain aneurysm. She had a headache for a week and then died in her sleep. It makes you think! I had a workup for headaches 5 1/2 years ago which included an MRI with contrast dye and a CT with contrast dye. Would an aneurysm show on those tests if I had one at that time? (I've seen MRA's mentioned and don't know the difference between that and an MRI.) Also, are aneurysms generally slow growing/forming?
Avatar f tn thought there were two fusiform and/or saccular lesions. I had a head CT after complaints of headaches, foggy brain, decreased concentration and fatigue. I have had an MRIw/wo contrast ,MRA and a CTangiograph. but now the neurosurgeon wants to see an angiograph via catheter through my groin. My Q. 's: I'm worried about the invasive procedure and its risks, ie., puncturing the artery, dislodging a clot or plaque; is the risk worth it for a lesion so small?
Avatar n tn In general, when an aneurysm is found and the size determined on MRA, sometimes (depending on the quality of the MRA and the appearance of the aneurysm on it) another confirmatory test such as a CT angiogram or cerebral angiogram may need to be done to confirm the presence of the aneurysm, confirm its size, and to exclude the presence of additional aneurysms too small to be seen on MRA.
Avatar n tn I had a ct scan and they found out I have an aneurysm of the aorta it was 2.8cm and not even 2 months later it was 3.2 again it was measured by ct scan then 2mths later I had an ultra sound and the tech. said it was at 3.48cm but she could not tell me how the measurements could be different. She said the ct scan measurments are different than the ultra sound can anyone tell me how they are different ? My doctors said I have a fast growing aneurysm and I need to be tested every 2 or 3 months.
Avatar n tn Are there any other methods that may be effective in finding out what is wrong? Perhaps a CT scan? I am wondering if I perhaps have an aneurysm - what do you think? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I'm a 20 year old white male in pretty good physical condition. I don't exercise regularly but I try to eat right and I'm not overweight at all. For over a week now I've had the strangest headache. I've never really been one to have headaches so this is even more strange. The left side of my head is where the pain is. My temple region feels pressure, along with the top right part of my head and the back lower right part of my head.
1225678 tn?1267136608 d suffered with for nearly 20 years, the only reason the Aneurysm was picked up was because of the brain haemorrage,I had an angiogram to pinpoint where the bleed was.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with a 4mm cerebral aneurysm and just went for angiogram ct and I am waiting the results I am a nervous wreck. I was also diagnosed with chiari and cervical disc disease . How do they treat cerebral aneurysms ?
Avatar f tn This afternoon, I went to a Vascular specialist who performed another ultrasound. The pseudo-aneurysm is gone but now I need a CT scan because there is suspected nerve damage that travels down my leg, and a hematoma at the site which is causing pain. I suggest you find a doctor who will perform an ultrasound to confirm whether or not there is an aneurysm at the site as your issues are identical to mine. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hi, Severe headaches can be due to the aneurysm. An angiogram definitely will be helpful in your case as it will show the exact location and size of aneurysm. Meanwhile I would suggest you to go to the ER immediately if you have terrible headaches, with vomiting, blurry vision and loss of consciousness. Do let us know after you see your neurologist.
359574 tn?1328360424 We only stayed a total of 5 hours at the hospital start to finish. My aneurysm is confirmed, and the interventional neuroradiologist who did the test said it of a shape that can't be coiled, but must be clipped, if it needs to be fixed. I will call my neurosurgeon Monday for a follow-0up appointment. Meanwhile, I get to take it easy for a week while the collagen seal on my femoral artery gets nice and solid.
4186651 tn?1357830957 Doctors diagnose the condition by ruling out atherosclerosis and looking for certain typical imaging signs through CT-angiogram, angiography, color dopplar, and MRI. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar f tn You should request a CT angiogram or Angiogram of blood vessels in the brain. I suffered for years with headache - without relief from medication. I had the same hallmark symptoms for migraine. You should have the possibility of cerebral aneurysm ruled out. That was my problem - dx with mutiple aneurysms 5 surgeries later I still experience headaches - and avoid sound and light which still can bring me to my knees! Migraine headaches is a blanket dr's jump to and then the pill game begins.
