Angiogram brain aneurysm coiling

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram brain aneurysm coiling

angiogram

Avatar m tn We recommend for this patient to undergo coiling of the intradural segment of the left vertebral artery, in order to exclude the dissecting aneurysm from circulation. Effectively they will block off the left vertebral artery and just left the right vertebral artery supply blood to the brain.. does that sound bad?
Avatar m tn I have a 7 week old son has a brain aneurysm rupture at age 4 weeks. I am interested in the prognosis of other infants or young children that have survived an aneurysm through surgery. Any history or information you could share would be appreciated. He was admitted in hospital due to fever where aneurysm may have potentially ruptured, seized for 3 hours, lot of blood in his brain, went through coiling surgery, had 2 angioplasty to control cerebral vasospasm.
Avatar n tn The dictum is that unruptured aneurysm is usually asymptomatic unless they grow large or press vital structures in the brain. Otherwise, ruptured aneurysms can cause subarachnoid hemorrhage with symptoms of sudden onset severe headaches, brief loss of vision or consciousness, stiff neck. Unruptured aneurysm manifests as double vision, new unexplained headaches and pain above and behind the eyes. I would strongly suggest an urgent neurosurgical evaluation.
1145423 tn?1261404857 They then plan to do the angiogram 4 days later tentivly. its after the angiogram we talk surgery right. and one more thing. I have been experiencing painbehind and on my eyes and sometimes my vision just dims...like sombody is dimming the lights. is this normal.
Avatar m tn I had a aneurysm coiling and stent once and then a second coiling a month later because the hospital had to order more coils due to the size of the aneurysm (big one). It has been almost one year six months and I still suffer from very extreme headaches. I have seen the best that Mayo has to offer and no help. At this point I have asked to have the coiling removed as it is up against my brain stem and did not shrink as they had hoped after the surgery.
6473455 tn?1381627629 Where is the aneurysm located—in the brain or neck? I am assuming you had a brain MRI and an aneurysm was found in the left internal carotid artery. An 11mm aneurysm is considered mildly large (large aneurysms vary in size from 1 to 2.5 cm). One can adopt a wait and watch policy, but saccular aneurysms are known to rupture or bleed as they are often present at bifurcations of blood vessels (area of blood turbulence).
Avatar f tn Is it really necessary for me to have an angiogram after finding out I have small aneurism in my head? The aneurism is 3 mm, I am a healthy 37 year old female. Should I get a second opinion? It really seems unnecessary for me to have a cath and camera into my brain for an aneurism they say is small and not to worry about it???
Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with a posterior intracerebal aneurysm , i am awaiting a coiling treatment, since last night i have been suffering a headache , stiif neck and a bit nauseous, the headache is more like having a bad hangover, like my head is being squeezed in a vice , should i attend the emergency dept ?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with a 4mm cerebral aneurysm and just went for angiogram ct and I am waiting the results I am a nervous wreck. I was also diagnosed with chiari and cervical disc disease . How do they treat cerebral aneurysms ?
Avatar n tn an aneurysm in one of the brain vessels that was found incidentally, and not thought to be causing symptoms. In general, when an aneurysm is found and the size determined on MRA, sometimes (depending on the quality of the MRA and the appearance of the aneurysm on it) another confirmatory test such as a CT angiogram or cerebral angiogram may need to be done to confirm the presence of the aneurysm, confirm its size, and to exclude the presence of additional aneurysms too small to be seen on MRA.
Avatar f tn I have never heard of an aneurysm going away without treatment. I am a survivor of two brain aneurysms. I was treated with a coiling 08/06 and clippings 05/07 and my advice to you is to keep your blood pressure as low as possible and definitely do not smoke. I hope everything works out for you. I know what your going through.
Avatar n tn I HAD A BRAIN ANEURYSM 11/07, IN WHICH A SHUNT AND COILS WERE INSERTED, LATELY I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING HEADACHES THAT ARE BECOMING MORE FREQUENT, I HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND SLEEP APNEA, RECENTLY I HAD A CATSCAN AND NOW I AM SCHEDULED FOR A MRA, I AM NERVOUS ABOUT HAVING AN MRA DONE WITH THE SHUNT AND COILS IN MY HEAD, I WAS TOLD TITANIUM WAS USED, I KNOW TITANIUM IS ALSO A METAL---WHAT SHALL I DO?
Avatar m tn Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn I recently had an MRI to try to determine the cause of my prolonged double vision, and the doctor said that although he could find nothing to explain the vision problem, he did notice a 3mm aneurysm. He suggested that I have another MRI in 12 months time to see how it's going. Is this reasonable or should I be doing something more?
Avatar f tn They found a 4mm carotid aneurysm in my scan last week. I am to get a CT Angiogram Wed and then see the neurosurgeon in August. I am on coumadin due to a blood clot in my sagittal sinus (reason why they found the aneurysm) from 2009. Was just wondering if someone has been through this process before and what I need to expect.
Avatar n tn Treatment of aneurysms includes clipping, a surgical procedure in which the aneurysm is literally clipped off, and coiling, a procedure in which the blood vessels in the brain are reached through a catheter in the groin, and a material is used to plug up the aneurysm. Each procedure has its specific indications, risks, and benefits. Continued discussion of treatment options with your physicians is recommended.
Avatar f tn I would get to a doctor as soon as possible. My husband was in the hospital recovering from coiling of 1 aneurysm and he had a grand mal seizure. What he said just before the seizure was "Oh my back". I don't know if this is a coincidence or not but please have it checked out. After all you have been through it's just not worth it to take any risks.
Avatar n tn I, too, have been told I have an aneurysm, but just had a CT angiogram to determine more specifically what is going on with it, and what the treatment will be. The neurosurgeon said it may just be able to be monitored, but I guess the other alternative is some sort of surgery. Yikes... Did you get anymore info yet?
Avatar f tn I cut and pasted your posting for when I might need the coiling on my aneurysm. Thanks.
Avatar n tn The neuros decided that due to my age (43yo), non smoker, reasonably healthy, and the size of my aneurysm, it was best to have the coiling procedure. In my research, I read that if an aneurysm is 6mm or lower, the best thing is to just closely monitor it. dlt59, if you are concerned, demand for a CT angio. The worst thing that can happen is that they will discover an aneurysm. The best thing that can happen is that you don't have one and you will feel more comfortable and at ease.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Cerebral or brain aneurysm is an abnormal widening a brain blood vessel at its weakened area. This may occur as a congenital (present since birth, familial) or may occur later in life due to injury, birth defects, or neurological disorder and it is life-threatening. Most serious consequence is stroke that may occur if this bursts in the brain.
Avatar m tn Was your aneurysm resolved by surgery? If so, was it clipped through a crainotomy or did you have a coiling procedure? Your reply will help a number of people and I might be able to shed some additional light on why your migraines could be occuring. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hi, Severe headaches can be due to the aneurysm. An angiogram definitely will be helpful in your case as it will show the exact location and size of aneurysm. Meanwhile I would suggest you to go to the ER immediately if you have terrible headaches, with vomiting, blurry vision and loss of consciousness. Do let us know after you see your neurologist.
359574 tn?1328360424 We only stayed a total of 5 hours at the hospital start to finish. My aneurysm is confirmed, and the interventional neuroradiologist who did the test said it of a shape that can't be coiled, but must be clipped, if it needs to be fixed. I will call my neurosurgeon Monday for a follow-0up appointment. Meanwhile, I get to take it easy for a week while the collagen seal on my femoral artery gets nice and solid.
