Angiogram procedure of the brain

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure of the brain

angiogram

Avatar n tn There are a few types of PACNS, including GACNS (a pathologic diagnosis made by biopsy), and BACNS, a diagnosis which is made by angiography (a procedure whereby dye is injected into the blood vessels of the brain and they are visualized).
Avatar f tn However, the gold standard in evaluating the blood supply of the brain is through 4 vessel angiogram which is an invasive procedure. It will all depend on what your doctor is considering, and he or she will be contented with the accuracy of the MRA. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn The doc puts the device up through the groin and into the brain like an angiogram. If she is having this procedure, she is very lucky. There are not many docs that are trained to do this procedure and there is a small window of time that the procedure can be done after the onset of the stroke. Good luck to your sister in law and your family!
Avatar n tn To follow up and close out - my throacic surgeon followed up with the doctors doing the angiogram and made it clear that he only wanted the angiogram done. (I might mention that my thoracic surgeon is one of the top in the world.) And, as the angiogram turned out, I have absolutely no blockage at all - zip, nil, none. (This to the absolute disgust of my wife who nags at me incessantly for putting so much butter on pancakes or 1/2 and 1/2 on my cereal.
Avatar f tn ve had many of them. The drive to the hospital tomorrow carries a bigger risk of death than the procedure. You will be completely relaxed going in for the procedure, be ready for a cold room, but usually they will give you warm blankets. I hope you post the results of the procedure. Keep us informed.
Avatar n tn I also have Abnormal Dilatation of the left middle cerebral artery region. The called the aneurysm a Bulbous expansion of the trifurcation on the left middle cerebral artery. I also had some Sino-Inflammatory or Sino-Polyposis changes. Other than that they didn't find anything wrong. I was wondering what treatment they will do for my aneurysm if any at all. My family doctor told me to continue with normal acitvities and exercise. He was not to concerned about it bursting.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn The Dr performing the procedure said I need further investigations, ie, an MRI Stress test because of. Here is the report they gave me. Managment Plan: Depending on the result of MRI, may require PCI of circumflex and LAD, or CABG. Is this an indication that two or more of my arteris are blocked. Since the angiogram, I frequently get minor chest pains without stress.
Avatar n tn If needed, they can also measure the pressures in the valves during the angiogram. If you feel you have symptoms of blocked arteries, you should see your doctor.
Avatar n tn If CT scan was unavailable due to buildup in arteries, is the angiogram the only other procedure recomended.? A carotyd artery check has been done and this is the next step recommended to chck further.
548182 tn?1215216723 about 4 days, all the control in my muscles in the right side of my face returned), but they could not find the cause of my stroke. This is my medical history: 1. No family history of stroke, diabetes, heart disease 2. I smoked about a pack a day before i had my stroke. 3. They found out i had dyslipidemia. 4. I was on Oral Contraceptives (which was stopped immediately after my diagnosis) 5. I was NOT hypertensive. 6. I am a bit overweight. 7.
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
776302 tn?1241091853 I had a 2 hour procedure the other day and a LOT of contrast. As soon as the procedure was over, I was given 2 cups of water to gulp down, even though I felt nauseous. I was then supervised to drink 3 litres of water in 2 hours which certainly flushed me out. I was then given a healthy lunch and the nausea disappeared. Most people suffer dizziness and sickness because they don't drink lots of fluids to aid removal from the body.
Avatar f tn You will also be given a few pills before the procedure, to thin your blood and lower the risk of clotting. In the UK we are given around 600mg of Plavix, That's 8x75mg pills, but some countries give 300mg. If you have any questions about the procedure, please ask, we have lots of experience to share. I promise you, nothing hurts and it is over before you know it.
Avatar f tn The CT scan 64 slice is not the state-of-art for CAD detection. The CT scan 256 slice 3D images is very good as the images provide a view as if actually seeing the source. The 3D CCG differs from CT as it measures blood velocity to determine fault that may or may not be due to blockage but another cause. A cath angiogram has the advantage if there is blockage, the blockage can be stented at the time, and it is not painful at all!.
848718 tn?1257138801 And it turned out that his assistant scheduled me for the wrong procedure, and I essentially had a CT version of the MRA instead of the whole invasive kind of angiogram with catheters, etc. The neurosurgeon then said that on the CT (with contrast to make it a CTA), it appeared that what I had was an "infundibulum" on the "posterior communicating artery.
Avatar n tn Did they use sufficient local anaesthetic? During different parts of the procedure, they inject different volumes of contrast. This, depending on which artery is receiving the dye, causes heat sensations in the body, pain down the sides of the body, chest pains etc. They only last for about 5 seconds, but can be alarming if you don't know it's going to happen.
Avatar f tn Hello Crwstar, Thank you for your comment. I gave up checking the forum , I thought noone read my request. I hope you're feeling good these days. I decided to go in for the CTangio catheter nxt wk. Do you mind if I ask about your procedure? - did you have anesthesia? was it painful inserting the catheter? were there any residual cognitive side effects you noticed? I have gov.health ins. which means I don't have the same doc. following my case.
Avatar n tn Hello Padma, Sorry to learn about your dad. I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
359574 tn?1328360424 If we decide to treat it once that is available, it is one of those endovascular procedures—through the arteries, not the skull and brain, so that is good news. Both he and the ophth are certain the annie has nothing to do with my eye pain, so I’ll still need to try to find a medicine that will work on it, or some other cause or treatment. Since the annie isn’t involved, that is further reason not to treat it.
1318351 tn?1313381421 A good book is good advice, but to add to it, make sure you empty your bladder before going in for the procedure. The contrast they inject in you to provide the images makes the kidneys work overtime. Also, the Angio suite is a cold place, it has to be cold for the equipment. I ask for lots of blankets so I'm as snug as a bug in a rug. With regards to spine problems, yes they can make pains seem to appear from anywhere in the body.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
Avatar n tn t be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem. The word shunting means to bypass blood flow. I assume it is a coronary artery bypass, and the risk depends on general health and whether or not the conditions cited are under control, etc.
Avatar f tn for some reason that same hand is tender over the top of my hand, where they put in the Angiogram camera tubing. I have had a groin Angiogram about 7 years ago. Even though I had this wrist discomfort, I would seriously ONLY ever recommend the wrist Angiogram, should you be reading my experience here.
