Angiogram procedure for brain

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure for brain

angiogram

Avatar n tn There is no requirement for angiogram...that procedure is best for blood flow anaylsis. A valve problem (stenosis, regurgitation, structually abnormal, etc.) can be analyzed with an echocardiogram with the doppler software (color codes blood flow in realtime).
Avatar f tn However, the gold standard in evaluating the blood supply of the brain is through 4 vessel angiogram which is an invasive procedure. It will all depend on what your doctor is considering, and he or she will be contented with the accuracy of the MRA. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn The doc puts the device up through the groin and into the brain like an angiogram. If she is having this procedure, she is very lucky. There are not many docs that are trained to do this procedure and there is a small window of time that the procedure can be done after the onset of the stroke. Good luck to your sister in law and your family!
Avatar f tn You will be completely relaxed going in for the procedure, be ready for a cold room, but usually they will give you warm blankets. I hope you post the results of the procedure. Keep us informed.
Avatar n tn You could ask for a ct angiogram if you are worried, which is basically a non invasive scan. However, to answer your questions, the angiogram is very safe as far as invasive procedures go. The biggest risks are stroke and heart attack, but for this to happen the cardiologist would basically have to disturb a chunk of blockage material in the arteries with his catheter wire. It isn't really about odds, are you the likely or unlikely odd?
Avatar n tn I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it. At one point they believed they had, but a CT angiogram found the vein and it was in a totally different area.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn There is a difference between an angiogram and angioplasty. Angiogram is a diagnostic procedure! Angioplasty is therapeutic meaning treatment. Usually, or almost always the diagnostic procedure (angiogram) is performed before there is treatment.
Avatar f tn ve had two angiograms, both of them prior to valve replacement surgeries. The reason for the angiograms was to rule out the need for a bypass procedure to be done at the same time as the valve replacement. I didn't need a bypass, either time.
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
848718 tn?1257138801 Let me speak for my wife as she had one done in 1994 and it seems like last year! Since you understand the process, let me tell you what my wife's experience as she related it afterwards. It is some what lengthy, a team of neuroradiologists will set you up in a CT scanner, a puncture is made to the artery in the groin area and a thin wire is snaked up through the arterial system until it finally makes its way to the area that is to be studied.
Avatar f tn I had an angiogram last year in April...the worst part was lying on my back for 6 hours after the procedure. With a procedure like this there are of course risks but the doctors will go over all that with you. I'm sorry I don't know the answers to your questions.....But best way to find out if its genetic is to find out from family members (aunts, uncles etc). I found out my grandfather had an annie this past November which surprised me cause I didn't know.
Avatar m tn You can also ask the doctor for an anti-anxiety medication to take by mouth on the morning of the procedure, if you need it. They may tell you "nothing by mouth," but then they make exceptions for certain pills that you have to take -- and maybe that is one of the pills that you have to take. Good luck.
Avatar n tn hello, my mom is 72 years old, she is type2 diabetic, hyper tensive and have ischemic heart disease, she has been adviced to go through angiogram and shunting after that. how safte it is for her, with her health background? will she survive after that, is it a dangerous procedure?
Avatar f tn Gidday dear community & friends. I had a recent Angiogram just 3 days ago, went in through my right index wrist. Upon trying to feed the camera tube into my artery they where pulling it in & out about 6 x times, during which I was crying with pain. I was told there adding more local anaesthetic, however I clearly felt this awful discomfort & terrible pain.
Avatar n tn hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
Avatar n tn The tenative diagnosis is BACNS, but they are not sure. I have not yet had a brain biopsy or a ct angiogram. I have been put on steriods and verapamil and have had no attacks in a month or so. I have been experiencing some slight numbness in my extremities ( random) and some light headaches/ dizziness from time to time. I am wondering if this is normal or I should be running to the doctor. What am I looking at as far as the prognosis ? Also, I live in Knoxville, Tenn.
974371 tn?1424653129 Ok, I haven't even seen a cardiologist yet. Actually, I've had chronic mouth and throat problems no doctor is able to diagnose. In the mean time, I've been complaining of a *hard* heart beat for a while. My doc, as usual, attributes it to nerves. I mentioned it yet again so he finally sent me for a halter monitor and an ECHO treadmill stress test. I knew I didn't do to well on the stress test.
