Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram for brain

angiogram

Avatar n tn I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
Avatar f tn However, the gold standard in evaluating the blood supply of the brain is through 4 vessel angiogram which is an invasive procedure. It will all depend on what your doctor is considering, and he or she will be contented with the accuracy of the MRA. Regards and God bless.
548182 tn?1215216723 t worry - the benefits (super-clear picture of what going on in your brain) far outweigh the risk. Angiograms are the gold standard for brain imaging - the doc will be able to see exactly whats going on.
359574 tn?1328360424 My 5 mm annie on the internal carotid has the ophthalmic artery coming out the side of it. The doctor who did my angiogram told me it wasn't treatable through endovascular means like coiling because it would cut off blood to the eye. The surgeon also told me a craniotomy and clipping is riskier than leaving it alone and monitoring it. At my one year follow-up, the CT Angiogram showed no changes.
Avatar m tn I HAVE AN UNRUPTURED 5 MM BRAIN ANEURYSM WHICH APPEARED FOLLOWING A ROUTINE MRA SCAN FOLLOWING OPEN HEAD BRAIN SURGERY TO REMOVE A NON CANCEROUS TUMOUR ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO THE LAST SCAN 15 MONTHS SHOWED NOTHING - MY NEUROSURGEON WANTS ME TO HAVE A DIGITAL SUBTRACTION ANGIOGRAM TO CARRY OUT A MORE DETAILED EVALUATION. HOW DANGEROUS IS THIS TYPE OF SCAN. I KNOW IT HAS IN RISKS IN RELATION TO STROKES ETC., I AM 63 YEARS OF AGE.
1213000 tn?1280463161 On May 19, after a MRI stress test was abnormal and an angiogram showed diffuse restonosis of the LAD stents, I underwent CABG (4X). 10 weeks later, another abnormal MRI stress test and on 30 July another angiogram. the results of thst angiogram was, all stents are now closed, all grafts are open but there is flow irregularities that may be caused by size mismatch between the vein grafts and the native arteries. This is being treated with Metprolol 25 mg and Diltiazem 120.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the advice. I go in next week for an angiogram to rule out a dural fistula. Hope it gets ruled out!
Avatar n tn Hi there, I am 39 years old and suffer from SLE. I have had visual problems for more than a year now in the the form of snow/static, the sensation of light in my vision (like if you stared at a bright light and then looked around) a black floater in my right eye, sensitivity to bright light, decreased night vision. I have failed two VF tests, and seen a retinal specialist who states that I have retinitis pigmentosa. Some of the symptoms fit, but not all.
Avatar f tn my Dad is 67 years old and had memory loss ,slurred speech due to two little block in brain and blockage in internal carotid artery . The doppler study and MRI A angiogram showed 100% blockage of left internal carotid artery. The right artery had 30% 40% of block. His colateral blood is normal. he had diabeties and Bp for the past 1 1/2 years. he got blood supply through right arteries..
Avatar m tn Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn Last year I suffered a serious brain bleeding rupture. I was rushed to a hospital and remained in intensice care for 11 days monitoring the condition. No surgery was necessary and was released since the ruptured vessel closed on its own. It was not considered an aneurysm. Am I susceptible for a reoccurance? I'm on a daily dose 120mg. mild Gkingo natural plant extract blood thinner capsules. No other medication was advised.
Avatar f tn Cranial Nerve Palsy. I was ordered an angiogram of the Brain. Anyone able to provide me feedback on the diagnosis and or the CTA. Angiogram?
Avatar n tn The tenative diagnosis is BACNS, but they are not sure. I have not yet had a brain biopsy or a ct angiogram. I have been put on steriods and verapamil and have had no attacks in a month or so. I have been experiencing some slight numbness in my extremities ( random) and some light headaches/ dizziness from time to time. I am wondering if this is normal or I should be running to the doctor. What am I looking at as far as the prognosis ? Also, I live in Knoxville, Tenn.
Avatar n tn 2011 she got admitted in hospital for neuro stroke, now dr suggested to take mri angiogram of brain.these are findings of mri angiogram of brain 1)Lacunar infarcts in bilateral subcortical frontal, parietal & occipital white matter.2)Acute infarct in left ACA territory.3)Diffuse cerebral & cerebellar atrophy.4)Occluded right ICA with reformation of MCA by PCOM.5)Atheromatous disease in left M1 with reduced calibre of M2/M3 and focal narrowing at M2.
359574 tn?1328360424 I had my initial appointment with a neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins yesterday about my brain aneurysm. She is not happy with the quality of the angiogram I had done in March, and wants me to have one done at Hopkins. Then she would follow up with me, and also have me see another neuro-ophthalmalogist while I'm there. I will have to schedule it around my work, so it may not be until sometime next year.
Avatar n tn It ended up that I stopped breathing and ended up in ICU. They tought I had a brain anuerysm so I was sent to UCLA for a femoral artery angiogram. While on the table they injected dyeinto the left side of my brain and I immediatly had a seizure. Only the right side was affected. Thedoctor told me I had a seizure disorder on the left side of my brain that causes the right side to shake. Since January I have had some sort of episode at least every week and a half.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your response. I do have high blood pressure (last year I had they placed 4 stents in my heart vessels) and recently my cardiologist changed my medication. The MRI also found a "tiny aneurism" close to my optic nerve.
Avatar m tn Well, went back to opthamologist last week and blind spot was a little worse. I go tomorrow for another angiogram and visual filed study. I am to the point of - just tell me something, even if you have to make it up, tell me something! Tell me I am losing my vision in my right eye and there is nothing to be done about it.
Avatar f tn He was going to suggest waiting 6 months for another MRI and I said that was too long. He has no idea or explanation why I am having the symptoms in my face and head. I find it really hard to believe that this is not at all somehow related. There is never one single moment of my day where there is not pain, aching, headache, burning or tingling/shocking going on in the left side of my face and head.
Avatar f tn Hello I am looking for advice or any suggestions. My husband in 2004 had a brain injury fractured skull and bleeding in the brain Epidural Hematoma at the Occipital and left Temporal area. Then about a year later his Cerebellum started to Atrophy and the Dr.'s can't explain why they are stumped.
Avatar m tn Many cardiologists seem to prefer angiogram. I've had both a ct angio and an angiogram and I didn't feel any difference between the two. I still had the same burning sensations from the dye etc in both procedures. I did look at the images from both scans and the angiogram shows everything in real time, actually working. You see the blood flowing, you see the heart pumping and you see the reactions of the arteries. With the ct angio all I saw was a set of still pictures.
Avatar m tn In which case, you would need an angiogram (an x ray of the brain where the blood vessels will light up after injecting contrast material) Discuss with your doctors all the options and possibilities. Regards...
678571 tn?1228012270 After this angiogram, I have had blood pressure problems, breathing problems, dry cough, shortness of breath and all the other symptoms that my cardiologist wanted me to do an angiogram for. He had said that if I needed an other stent put in. I would need a bypass even though I have small vessels. According to the cardiologist who talked to me afterwards and also preformed the angiogram said that I would never be able to have a bypass and just had to life with less oxygen in my left ventricle.
