Adhd vs bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Adhd vs bipolar

Avatar f tn personally I do not think the diagnosis is an important element in your treatment. You have an extremely difficult situation with her husband away and two children in some question about your support from her mother. That is enough to make anybody depressed. I would address those issues first and see if you can create any better support during this critical period of motherhood. I would not worry about the diagnostic label.
Avatar f tn I had always experienced symptoms, so I didnt know what was normal vs not. I am finally diagnosed with ADHD and Bipolar1 and it has changed my life. I am an alcoholic and the Doctors, shrinks, over 10 rehabs didnt look further. I was diagnosed with borderline per. disorder at one point, mis diagnosed. Look up symptoms for depression, anxiety,BPD,bipolar disorder etc and write down the ones you can relate to and show a psychiatrist.
207227 tn?1271420578 First, I have read the Bipolar Child, Is Your Child Bipolar, and ADD/ADHD books. I have a medical background and very knowledgeable about things medical. My daughter has been showing symptoms that are half ADD/ADHD related and half Bipolar Child related. The symptoms are about half of each. I have taken her to a psychiatrist who said she MAY have a mood disporder (unipolar) and put her on Trileptyl. She had an allergic reaction to this and we had to stop it ASAP.
Avatar m tn anxiety and depression are two side effects from ADD. i know i have ADD and as a adult i have never been treated for it- just have to try to focus that much harder. i'm currently on meds for anxiety and depression and i'm wondering if i'm starting backwards. should i be getting treament for the ADD first and then see if the anxiety and depression continue.
Avatar f tn I am taking adderall as apart of my treatment with bipolar and adhd. I also take neurotin 3xs a day and klonopin 3x's a day. I was just wondering has anyone taken adderall and ritilan and was there a big difference in the 2? I only ask because my insurance doesn't cover the adderall but it does ritilan. I really don't want to mess with my medication regime but if there isn't a huge difference in the 2 then finacially.....
Avatar f tn He doesn't have any issues with add or adhd though bipolar and depression run in our family, so that could still become an issue for him later. As far as guilt not breastfeeding for very long, I don't have any. And this child I'm pregnant with, I may try to nurse, but I may not be able to due to certain health issues and the medication I'm supposed to be taking. I don't particularly care for the way done people come at it their way us the "right" way.....
Avatar n tn I also have an 8 year old that is diagnosed with BiPolar disorder and ADHD and a 2 year old that already shows signs of bi-polar. I really understand the roller coaster ride you are on. Also some of the anti depressants are helpful like SSRI's ie Serzone. Please Email me with any questions you might have or if you need someone to talk to. I am there. I do KNOW what you are going through.
Avatar f tn Basically borderline personality disorder involves no chemical imbalance but bipolar disorder does however. BPD involves rapid changes in emotions, much more rapid than BP, and distortions in self image and whatnot. BP involves switching from depression to hypomania, mania or a mixed state of both every few months or sometimes every day or two or even less and the depression and mania entail many other things.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed budeprion to help with ADHD. I have been taking it for nearly a month, and over the last week thought I was going nuts! I had no idea it was the medication doing this to me though, especially since it was supposed to help.
Avatar f tn Until one day my parents took the time to research and took me to a psychologist who could test me for ADD or ADHD as well as any other learning disability. It turns our I had both ADD and ADHD, my school was then contacted and i had special accommodations in order. I was prescribed adderall which turned out to be a MIRACLE drug!!! immediately i saw school in a whole new light. I enjoyed learning (maybe to much) and started understanding better.
Avatar f tn Boy, would I love to see a science based study looking at children that were given natural remedies vs. nothing vs. medication for adhd/add. My child is not on medicine but I know of many many success stories of children that found themselves achieving what THEY have always wanted to achieve in school. When it is a success, it is a wonderful thing. When it is a disaster it is a terrible thing. That is why one can only share their own experience with their family or people they know well vs.
Avatar f tn Does anybody know of any medication out there for bipolar that doesn't cause weight gain? I've gained 30 pounds the past 6 months and don't need to gain, but lose so please help.
Avatar n tn 33 We just recently started seeing a new therapist for my daughter who is currently diagnosed with ADHD. She was being treated with Ritalin but because of her difficulty in social situations wherein she will sometimes physically lash out at people, the therapist started her on Buspar feeling that anxiety control would be helpful. Ritalin was decreased and Buspar increased. Then, when that wasn't working we started my daughter on Adderall while decreasing the Buspar.

Avatar n tn It is difficult to give a diagnosis without evaluating your son. I recommend that you arrange for his evaluation by a child/adolescent psychiatrist. For more information on bipolar disorder, please refer to "bipolar vs adolescence" posted on 4/8/00, with my response dated 4/12/00. Childhood schizophrenia is also a possibility.
Avatar m tn He is at risk for bipolar disorder. He is exhibiting ADHD behavior at home, but not at school, pointing to possible pediatric bipolar disorder. I am looking for a professional to help me go through the process for a full psych evaluation and possibly therapy and/or treatment. I believe that my son craves a male presence in his life but there are none, so his need is unfulfilled and I don't know what to do as far a chosing a professional.
Avatar n tn My son was dxed w/ ADHD. He's been on meds since age 5. He's 9 now. Ritalin, Concerta, Dexedrine, & now Adderall XR and Inderall. Aggressive behavior since age 2 resulting in being thrown out of 3 daycares. Violent in school when he doesn't get his way, (e.g.
Avatar f tn my problem now is just his anger, adhd, bipolar...thanks God for the strenght .
Avatar f tn Ive read a lot on the Feingold diet, and his claim is that the artificial food dyes, sweeteners and chemicals in our food can cause a whole host of mental problems, from adhd in children to even bipolar. Just some food for thought. no pun intended. Thank you again, I have a lot of thinking to do now, that diagnoses in particular causes a lot of fear for me, mostly because of the meds. I don't care about the label, its just the meds.
Avatar n tn I'm also face blind and I have word recall problems. But to be honest, I don't know if it's the bipolar disorder, the ADHD (I've got both) or the medicines I've been through over the last 21 years. Or a combo.
Avatar f tn The first thing about you post that disturbed me is his ADHD diagnosis. Majority, if not all children with bipolar disorder get diagnosed ADD or ADHD first. How the doctors/psychiatrists discover that the child is bipolar is because they do not respond to ADD/ADHD medications and do respond to bipolar medications. Most GOOD psychiatrists get a clue from there and properly diagnose the child. The symptoms you describe are bipolar. I know. First of all I am a social worker.
4534513 tn?1356046270 My daughter is 12, and for the past 9 years we have taken her to and from an in patient facility and 2 residential treatment centers. At 4 years of age she clawed her 1 year old brothers face and laughed to see him hurt. She had to repeat Kindergarten as she wouldnt mind, no attention span, and verbally fought everyone. She was diagnosed Bipolar, & ADHD.
Avatar n tn Now, relative to side effects the most important variable to address is the probable (vs possible) side effects - i.e., those side effects which are more likely to occur. Without knowing what medication might be considered, it's not possible to say any more about this, excapt that you should definitely inquire of the prescribing clinician about the matter of side effects. Depending on the diagnosis and treatment, some self-help, support or informational groups are available.

209384 tn?1231171906 Oh.........I feel for you, girl! My oldest son has ADHD as well. He also has anxiety issues that he takes meds for. I notice a huge difference in him when he takes his meds vs. not. He's bouncing off the walls when he's not on it. A few years back, we were referred to an endo because he was 15 and not showing ANY signs of puberty. Was a bit concerned.
Avatar n tn You don't have to have your child tested to get medication (not saying your child needs medication) If the teachers will fill out a form and take it to your doctor, they can point you in the right direction. ADD or ADHD will manifest itself at school also. Bipolar, depression and anger issues may only be visible at home. 4. If worst comes to worst, you can opt to send your child to an alternative home to help raise your child, especially if other children are at risk.
