Avatar f tn I have ADHD and my son has ADHD. It runs in my family from way back before ADHD became rampant and misdiagnosed. My son also has a very high IQ - and had the same difficulties as your son. I also work in the school as a speech pathologist. Request an obsevation by either the School Psychologist or a Teacher Consultant, if they have one. They can also give you a checklist that can be filled out by you, the teacher and your son.
Avatar n tn I think checklists are fine as a supplement to a thorough study of the child's cognitive functioning and achievement, because symptoms of ADHD can occur for other reasons besides ADHD. I am not on any other medications and only go to the Dr. if I desperatly need too. I hate to take pills but I am trying to be the best person that I can, which means medication. It seems like our current psychiatrist allows us to decide our own course with medication to see what would work best. He is currently on 25 mg Vyvance and the last month he has said it made a world of difference with his attention in school.
