zovirax

Avatar n tn My eye doctor sent me to a cornea specialist and after an exam he asked me to keep taking the acyclovir tablets (1 pill - 3x a day) and prescribed Pred Forte eye drops (Prednisolone Acetate 1%) 4x a day. Reading about this stereoid, I saw that it is not to be used on infections caused by virus (eg. Herpes). What should I do????? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with herpes a week ago, and my doctor prescribed 2400mg of acyclovir daily (1 pill 4 times a day) and i have 1 week more of pills to take. My sores are all healed up, but the pain in my pelvis, rear end and legs is still quite bad. How long does this pain typically last? Thank you for your help!
Avatar f tn hsv 2, I take valtrex, well acyclovir 2 pills a day 500mg & yesss he's been tested about 2months ago , I havent had sex with him with a outbreak but I, found, out he could still get it if I dont have a outbreak so now im freaked out.
Avatar n tn I was given diflucan I think its called, the one dose pill and the acyclovir for anymore hsv outbreaks. I also began takikng ortho tricyclen lo at this time. Everything was fine until mid February when I started having the tingling feelings of an hsv outbreak so I started the acyclovir and it stopped without ulcering. The nect week I got another yeast infection and it went away after a monistat application.
Avatar f tn postmarketing experience with valacyclovir provides evidence of favorable safety and efficacy in herpes simplex virus (HSV) management. Valacyclovir enhances acyclovir bioavailability compared with orally administered acyclovir. Long-term use of acyclovir for up to 10 years for HSV suppression is effective and well tolerated.
Avatar f tn I have HSV2, been taking Acyclovir 400mg 2x daily for suppression for a while now. Recently decided to switch to Valtrex 1g once a day, because 1 pill is more convenient and also I hear valtrex suppresses shedding and transmission in general better. I'd like to hear others opinion on the differences of both. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Because of this unique delivery system, you get more active acyclovir in the body to kick some herpes butt. Acyclovir works the same, you just have to take it 2x/day compared to once daily. I know with my insurance I pay under $20 for a 3 month supply which makes it WAY worth taking a pill 2x/day instead of once daily! If you look on the valtrex prescribing info, it compares it's efficacy with acyclovir even - http://us.gsk.com/products/assets/us_valtrex.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed zovirax acyclovir ointment 5% for a subsequent o/b.On the pamphlet it says it is for initial o/b's in immunocompetent persons as myself. But the pharmacist says it is doesn't matter and that the ointment is better than the cream because it adheres better.Which one is better for subsequent genital herpes o/b......acyclovir cream or ointment? What is the difference between the cream and the ointment? Thanks.
Avatar f tn one day i went to go check the pills she gave me because i was on birth control and wanted to know if it would affect it so i looked up the name acyclovir to find out it was for the herpes simplex virus....i freaked out and called and asked them why they gave me a pill for herpes if i didn't have that and the nurse on the phone told me that its for more than one thing and that its best not to google things cause it give me false indications.....
Avatar n tn Has anyone noticed that there is a shortage of Acyclovir in the US? I live on the East coast and have found that it is very hard to get my prescription re-filled. I take 400mg x2 a day for suppression and I have only been able to get 200mg. With some difficulty I might add. It isn't the end of the world but I am concerned about the supply in a month when I go for another re-fill. I read on the FDA web site that there is currently a shortage. http://www.fda.
Avatar m tn doesn't work that way with valtrex/acyclovir/famvir etc. they only act to disrupt the viral replication cycle, they don't prevent infection. unfortunately so far all the herpes vaccines they've researched haven't been effective.
Avatar n tn It first appeared as blister like bumps on my upper inner thigh, then soon after I developed bumps and small leisions around my vajay-jay. Grace, where can I get this acyclovir??? Is it a topical ointment or a pill I would take regularly?? Or just during an outbreak??
Avatar f tn Hello, I am currently taking acyclovir 200 mg twice daily for suppressive therapy. However, I am on my menses and feel an outbreak coming. I was instructed to taking it 5 times a day for OBs. Just wanted to know what time intervals to take the pills. The doctor did not give me clear directions. Thanks. I really hate being a woman right now and really hate the fact I have this virus :( Just a side bar.
Avatar f tn I would usually apply my Acyclovir ointment a few times a day to the cold sore and take two pills of Lysine, one in the morning and one at night and usually in a day or two it would be gone. I just wasn't sure if using these two things was safe while pregnant. I will be calling my doctor tomorrow to ask but I would love anyones opinion on anyone who has used these products while pregnant. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Oral acyclovir or the recently developed drugs, valacyclovir (Valtrex) or famciclovir (Famvir), lessen the symptoms and frequency of fever blister recurrences for some patients. These drugs prevent HSV from multiplying and are effective when taken in pill form prior to an outbreak of the virus. Topical antiviral creams containing acyclovir (Zovirax) or penciclovir (Denavir) may also help in limiting the extent or duration of lesions if applied promptly to affected areas.
Avatar n tn Thank you doctor i'll take your advice and use acyclovir frequently. Is applying acyclovir cream to the affected area as a preventive measure as effective as taking in pill form? (i'd prefer to use cream).
Avatar m tn if you are going to take a pill 2x/day for your herpes, might as well take the most affordable ( usually acyclovir is under $20/month for suppressive therapy even without insurance ). no there are not serious side effects. have you ever read the herpes handbook? if not, google it - it comes right up and it's free!
Avatar f tn I stopped taking acyclovir in December 2011. I have had numerous outbreaks like once a month or every couple of months. I have had HSV2 four years and four months now. My last outbreak was maybe eight weeks ago. Shouldn't my outbreaks decrease since I have had the virus for some time.I would like to know is that too many outbreaks to be experiencing.
Avatar m tn i started taking acyclovir a few days ago for the first time for a mild cold sore breakout. 2 days after i started, the cold sores got more intense, and 2 new huge cold sores came up out of nowhere. i have 3 more days left of the medication, and i'm going to keep taking it, but what should i do? these cold sores are not going away, and it seems like its getting worse! so done with these friggin things...
Avatar m tn Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
1302779 tn?1287405029 the doses you take for recurrences do tend to give the headaches :( do you take advil or anything along with the acyclovir knowing that it's likely to cause you to get a headache?
Avatar m tn Does Acyclovir make anyone else feel completely terrible? I get terrible headaches, dizzy, diarrhea and feel just awful. im not sure which is worse sometimes.
