Hello! I have had herpes for about 8 years. The first outbreak was blisters on my labia majora on one side, and swollen spots itchy spots near by on my buttocks on the other side, with pain my my leg bones. I was never told what type I had. I was very uneducated and clueless at that time, and I think I might have spread it all over my body by scratching, including my eyes. But I did not have any other outbreak until 2009, which was swollen itchy spots on my buttocks.
Can genital or simplex herpes cause Postherpetic Neuralgia? I had a severe herpes outbreak (8 blisters everywhere) beginning April 24 when my eye doctor took me off of Acyclovir after nine years. The Acyclovir was used to prevent further flares in my left eye from Herpes Iritis. Now I am suffering from pain in the muscle and tingling in my right arm. There was a blister in that area which has now healed.
Valtrex is more convenient - usually a once a day dose - and though a generic is available now, it is generally more expensive then acyclovir. Acyclovir is inexpensive, but is a twice a day dose. For some, convenience is more important, and for others, cost is. No right or wrong answer - up to you.
Also make sure that you don't have another infection, like yeast or bacterial vaginosis, that is causing you to have more outbreaks. Secondary infections can wreak havoc on herpes.
Ok so I was diagnosed with genital herpes about a year ago. The reason I went to get checked was because I had major discomfort in my vaginal area. I believed it was from shaving because I had shaved a few days before. I went to get checked and the ob/gyn immediately believed it was herpes. That day I took a blood test and a culture test and a few days later i found it was positive for the blood test (I am not sure what type.) and negative for the culture test.
Why were you given acyclovir to take? You really haven't provided any testing details except for your blood test. Did they do a swab of your rash?
I have no experience with genital herpes, however I do have HSV-1. I have always take acyclovir when I have a cold sore, and never had too much of an issue with side effects until my last prescription. They upped my dose from 200 mg to 800 mg (different doctor), and I had all kinds of problems and only ended up taking them for 2 days. After the 2nd day on the 800 mg, my eyes became very irritated and my lips developed a rash and broke out in fordyce spots.
Well, Acyclovir is for HSV1 or HSV2 which can both can cause Cold Sores or Genital Herpes. So he could be telling the truth. Also, since you were never tested for Herpes you could have had it before him and not even known it. I understand exactly how you feel right now. The only thing you can do now is wait for the test results to come back. Also, for very accurate results, it should be at least 12 weeks since your last sexual encounter.
I started having very mild genital herpes outbreaks about eight months ago, and for this outbreak (only one small blister) I decided to take acyclovir tablets and acyclovir cream. I have no pain or itching. I have taken it for a day and a half, 200 mg every 4 hours, omitting the nighttime dose. My blister is pretty much gone, and Im wondering, would it be okay to stop taking the acyclovir? I read everywhere that Im supposed to take it for 5 days, but is it for the same reason as antibiotics?
Grace I would like to know if caffeine is a trigger to a herpes outbreak. The reason why is because I have been drinking coffee for a while I usually don't I had three outbreaks last month. However I have been off acyclovir for a 13 months. I had HSV2 for 4 years and 5 months now my OBGYN said that I shouldn't be experiencing that many outbreaks being that I have had the virus for some time she's saying that is too many outbreaks.
So far the tests other than herpes went non-reactive (I am currently waiting for herpes 1 and 2 results my primary physician entrusted me to continue taking the remaining acyclovir pills as precaution until a final diagnosis. I took acyclovir 3 more days and I stopped it to see if another rash episode appeared but so far I don’t see visible lesions in my penis like the one above described. Only a minor pain below waist still continues.

So i got tested about 4 weeks ago for Herpes. I got tested for HSV 1 and 2 both IgM and IgG. Everything was negative, except the HSV 1 IgM was positive, and Negative IgG, and the doc told me that i have a recent infection. Ive never had cold sores or anything, which means it could be an asymptomatic shedding. The doc told me to take Acyclovir 800 mg for 5 days. But then another doc and some articles says that IgM is not reliable. Does that mean that the test might showed me a false positive?

the combinaton of genital ulcer, vaginal discharge, and fever or other flu-like symptoms is classical for initial genital herpes. However, everything else is against it.
1) Even with HSV-2, symptomatic outbreaks as often as once a month is uncommon, and I have never heard of genital HSV-1 causing such frequent outbreaks.
2) However, your blood test shows for sure you don't have HSV-2; and the postive HSV-1 result is most likely to reflect a distant (childhood?
If a female is the recipient of oral sex on the day discomfort begins, later an ulcer develops (PCR tests neg for HSV, CMV, etc) but serum IgG test is positive (5) for HSV2, (Neg for HSV1 & HIV neg) what are the chances the partner could develop HSV2 orally? What is the latest that symptoms could appear? (Partner has swollen nodes on day 15, no mention of oral ulcers or sore throat.
Hi, I have had 3 cortisone injections for nasal swelling and pain due to allergies. I have also been on Acyclovir for a year, to manage Herpes II infection. Also have sudden hearing loss and tinnitus in R ear diagnosed as viral, possibly herpes. After the last cortisone injection in January '09, I am having a genital herpes flareup which does not seem to be responding to Famcyclovir treatment. Also sores in my mouth. Am I possibly having a Herpes flareup due to the cortisone injections?
genital herpes is transmitted thru direct skin on skin contact with the genital area. Your genital herpes won't be transmitted thru saliva. Have you ever had a type specific herpes igg blood test to know your hsv1 status?
She can contract hsv2 orally but it's less likely to happen. the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com goes into all of this in more detail and I recommend you read it as well as encourage your potential partner to read it.
