Avatar n tn ...not trying to start an argument; I just want people to find the right information when they come to Medhelp!
Avatar f tn Although, last week I was tested for EBV and CMV, and my blood-work came back positive for IgG and IgM in the EBV test. As a result, I do have a reactivation of the Epstein Barr Virus, which initially I had back in 2003. My next appointment is tomorrow with an Infectious Disease Doc and hopefully the treatment he recommends will be effective against this virus.. The crazy thing is Ive had this reactivation of the EBV for almost a year now and this past year has been the worst year of my life.
1816280 tn?1316893136 Has anyone found anything that helps them with the horrible fatigue? I am acyclovir and yesterday my doc. put me on trazodone to take in the morning. It has made me feel more tired than I normally do which I though was impossible. He has mentioned Ritalin has anyone been on this and had any luck? I am really sick of being sick and really tired of being tired. I also have chronic fatigue syndrome.
673575 tn?1226650733 As the antiviral drug, Acyclovir, is not active to the treatment of EBV induced Infectious Mononucleosis, is there any other recently innovated drug or vaccine in market to treat the patients appropriately?
Avatar n tn She was treated for 14 days with acyclovir and dexamethasone for presumed viral encephalitis. One month later, her temperature had returned to normal, and her mental status and arm strength were normal, although a flaccid paraparesis persisted. One year later, she was able to walk with the aid of a walking frame and sphincter function had returned to normal.
Avatar m tn Although fatigue is a symptom of active EBV, I agree with PlateletGal that you should try to see a doctor for CFS. I'm 25 years old and have had CAEBV for 10 years now, which is Chronic Active Epstein-Barr Virus. I know that isn't really something you want to read since you said you've seen a lot of chronic cases listed and it is bringing you down. Don't let it! Worry and stress over the situation will only make things worse. You need to relax.
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with EBV for at least two years now and I hate to admit that I think I have chronic EBV. I'm male, late twenties, active, able to hold a job, try to stay health conscious with food, exercise, am a non smoker. I've experienced many crazy symptoms since getting EBV and after being tested a year later my EBV levels have not decreased at all since the beginning.
Avatar f tn Hi, how were you diagnosed with EBV? Through an EBV blood test?
Avatar f tn Hello all! I'm looking for any hope anyone has to share. I've truly lost any hope since I have been so incredibly sick for far too long. EBV has taken over and there's zero quality to my life anymore. I'm completely alone in this fight to recover. Timeline: July 2021- Starting feeling ill, intermittently. Chalked it up to stress and anxiety September - symptoms of feeling ill become noticeably worse. Thought perhaps I came down with Covid. Tested negative.
1972417 tn?1328356324 Thanks- my neurologist told me there's nothing he can give me for EBV. NOTHING. I have to rest and he's running some tests to check the level of inflammation in my body and to test my nerves as I have little reflexes in my arems and legs...I can't believe it's this bad. I underestimated what this really is. Thanks for responding. God Bless.
Avatar n tn i would check HCV and HBV PCR as well as EBV PCR. Also, I would check a CT scan or U/S of the liver. what are the alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin levels? These are not dangerously elevated so watchful waiting is reasonable.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I’m new here. I’m a 51 yr old woman. I was just recently DXed with chronic EBV. I remember the initial occurrence. It was in September, 2011. I’ve hurt (achiness, warm, chills ever since). At that time I had severe, emotional, mental and physical stress. I had a sore throat, lymph nodes swollen and mild achiness. The pain just got worse over the next month and hung in until this day. I’ve had numerous DXs. Most were just guesses. Only one was backed up by blood work. Thyrioditis.
Avatar n tn Greetings Dr. HHH. Hope you’re doing good. I had an outbreak of genital herpes 2months ago. Prompt care doctor said i might have acquired the virus just recently, 2-3weeks before . BUT, the last time that i had unprotected sex was 2years ago and THAT’S IT. That same day, my blood tested NEGATIVE on both STD&HIV. Doc said it might not be on my blood stream yet. I was given acyclovir and it healed. 1. Is this RARE or unusual it took 2years before the outbreak came out? In your 30yrs.
Avatar f tn Which doctors or care providers are best at working with EBV cases? It seems that many care providers are not clear on how to interpret titer levels or treat this virus. I so appreciate any help or clarity and take comfort in knowing I am not alone. Thanks for all your posts everyone!
974371 tn?1424653129 What do you mean by Mono and Ebv? Those are just different names for the same thing. Which EBV antibodies were high?
Avatar f tn Have you had your EBV DNA checked? Positive EBV DNA values over around 2000 in addition to mono symptoms for more than 6 months is diagnostic for CAEBV. If you do have it, you should also find out what type it is. B, T or NK. Not too many dr's know about this as it is very rare. I know because I have it and it's the B type which thankfully is the milder type. All 3 types if there's a tissue or organ involvement can will be lethal and fatal.
Avatar f tn I believe EBV is worse than HIV. At least for HIV, there is 30 different medicines, but nothing for EBV. I am trying Monolauren, Oregano oil, olive leaf, etc to see if it helps.
Avatar f tn I've been suffering for the past few weeks with severe dizziness and tingling sensations all over my body and a constant dull ache in my coccyx. I'm feeling really unwell and wonder if it could be a reoccurrence of EBV (Glandular Fever). Which doctor would I need to consult regarding this? GPS are pretty useless.
Avatar m tn I immediately went on 2000 mg acyclovir then switched to 2grams valcyclovir. I took this for 2-3 weeks. During this time the pain in my legs persisted along with weakness in my legs. I also started to get tingling in my arms, back, lower legs, and in my forehead and down the right side of my face. The crazy thing is my tongue also turned white during this time. I went to my primary who told me I probably had been exposed to HSV2 a long time ago and it never had been active.
547919 tn?1411515882 After a month or so the IgG starts to go up and remains up for life. It is protective. Having said that with EBV except, the VCA IgM can be positive for a long time, at least according to the Mayo clinic website. 2.Yes the fever is high with a new infection (when you first get it) or the original mono. 3. I meant that people think EBV is reactivated but it is really Human HER 6 that you get. Even though EBV and CMV are both in the Herpes family. 4.
937868 tn?1570328281 ebv update they are actually testing a vaccine for ebv .sounds likje it may be a success.
Avatar n tn Well the chronic active form seems to be mostly in children but the chronic EBV is in adults. You can get treated with Acyclovir to knock it down. I don't know if the doctor would be willing to try this or not. Also, there is some research on trying to boost your immunity with immunoglobulin or even IV immunoglobulin and alpha interferon but this is more for the active form in kids and it is still being investigated.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor for a prescription for acyclovir. It puts ebv to bed and has worked wonders. It’s not common practice in the medical community but it only makes sense I don’t know why they aren’t giving it to more people.
939031 tn?1289956654 Chlamydia pneumonia Human Herpes Virus 6 - known aslo as Roseola About 98% of all people have been previously infected by EBV and HHV6. The percentage is stightly less for Chlamydia pneumoniae. Cyndi, could you look at that article and see if it mentions what journal the study came out in?
Avatar f tn The first time you get infected with EBV (primary EBV infection) you can spread the virus for weeks and even before you have symptoms. Once the virus is in your body, it stays there in a latent (inactive) state. If the virus reactivates, you can potentially spread EBV to others no matter how much time has passed since the initial infection. Diagnosis Diagnosing EBV infection can be challenging since symptoms are similar to other illnesses.
