Does Acyclovir make anyone else feel completely terrible? I get terrible headaches, dizzy, diarrhea and feel just awful. im not sure which is worse sometimes.
In early October of this year, I made a stupid decision and had unprotected sex with someone that I trusted. She didn't realize that she had herpes and neither did I. As a result, I now have HSV-2. I had an initial outbreak in October that included visible signs as well as some pretty swollen lymph nodes in the groin.
She said it started tingling 6 days before our encounter and she immediately took her Acyclovir and started using the prescription cream. She said it never "oozes" or gets that big and that the dry skin had already fallen off. All that was left was a little pink patch roughly the size of a tic tac. I am fairly certain that my penis did not touch that "pink patch". It was under the lip and not on it. They might be irrelevant. Can you catch HSV from other parts?
I stopped taking acyclovir in December 2011. I have had numerous outbreaks like once a month or every couple of months. I have had HSV2 four years and four months now. My last outbreak was maybe eight weeks ago. Shouldn't my outbreaks decrease since I have had the virus for some time.I would like to know is that too many outbreaks to be experiencing.
i started taking acyclovir a few days ago for the first time for a mild cold sore breakout. 2 days after i started, the cold sores got more intense, and 2 new huge cold sores came up out of nowhere. i have 3 more days left of the medication, and i'm going to keep taking it, but what should i do? these cold sores are not going away, and it seems like its getting worse! so done with these friggin things...
Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
Again believe the results. Also, that you have taken acyclovir and are taking valacyclovir now does not affect test performance. The results are good.

He tells me he thinks the pain is just a pinched nerve and the tingling seems to be a manifestation of my anxieties about having transferred my HSV1 to my genitals. I asked to get prescribed daily acyclovir because I kept getting inner mouth sores during my period every month. Fast forward a few more months and the pain in my legs subsides to just random pangs in my buttocks or quad muscles.
Well yes indeed valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug so it does eventually just turn into acyclovir anyways in the body. Because of the way valtrex gets the acyclovir into your body though, you get more active acyclovir than you do from just taking plain ole acyclovir. Some folks just don't tolerate the higher amounts you get from valtrex and do well on acyclovir. certainly worth a try don't you think?

A little over 3 weeks ago, I gave unprotected oral sex to another guy. We spoke about HIV status ahead of time and he said he tests every year (in December for his annual physical) and is negative.
Acyclovir is always 2x/day for suppressive therapy. You can not take acyclovir just 800mg 1x/day. It's not effective that way. Call your provider up and question that dose. If they say that that dose works too -ask them to please cite the research that backs that. I guarantee you they can't provide any that shows that 800mg once a day is effective for acyclovir!!
do you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally? How about orally - which one?
Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does.

acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
Within 10 days, I came down with a horrible flu with fever, vomiting, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea. Then I began to have pain in my mouth, sores on tongue, and constant sore throat for nearly 5 mos. straight. I had several HIV tests that were negative. Then, in June 2005, while on antibiotics for a possible Strep Throat, I began having HORRIBLE vaginal and anal itching (all over the genitals and not just in one spot). This itching was constant. Never went away completely.
