Actonel and osteonecrosis of the jaw

Common Questions and Answers about Actonel and osteonecrosis of the jaw

actonel

Avatar m tn Yes, I saw that osteonecrosis. Scary. The blood supply actually stops flowing to the jaw and it dies. She is taking calcim supplements and vitamine D with 50,000 IU per week. But I still don't understand the underlying cause of the bone loss. Wonder if her her low thyroid chemistry causes this. Wonder if she would take synthroid if her problem would resolve.
Avatar n tn There are reports that link people taking IV fosamx to osteonecrosis of the bone having oral and maxilofacial surgery. Treatment really depends upon degree of severity. Most of the time patients are advised hyperbaric chambers.
Avatar n tn i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
Avatar n tn The biophosphonate drugs have been known to cause osteonecrosis (infection causing loss of bone) of the jaw. A disease you do not want to get. The lecturer said she would never recommend anyone taking them. Having an extraction or even a root canal after taking these drugs can initiate the infection in the bone.
Avatar m tn The core decompression they usually just drill little holes directly into the side of the joint affected to allow blood to flow around the joint and dead bone and marrow, thus allowing new growth, since mine was so different and my whole leg, they literally hollowed out my right femur and tibia bones, my cartilage was 100% not a thing wrong with it ODD the #1 knee surgeon in Chicago thought.
Avatar n tn I am 3 years post breast cancer i had lumpectomy chemo rads i have taken tamoxofen for 2,5 years now on aromasil i had a bone density scan and was told i had low calcuim levels, now on calcuim sandox and actonel asked if i had osetoprosis and was told no have read around actonel and have not taken it yet as of the side effects please can you advice thanks.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn dental work - there are blackbox warnings about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death) The mother of a woman that I worked with took Fosamax for a few months and her teeth began to loosen - an oral surgeon had to pull teeth from a quadrant of her mouth and add some sort of bone replacement. The oral surgeon who did my root canal 2 years ago told me (reluctantly) agreed that the bone drugs are becoming controversial.
Avatar f tn com/arthritis/avascular-necrosis-osteonecrosis-symptoms-treatments#2. And here is an overview of the type of surgery that she had https://nyulangone.org/conditions/osteonecrosis/treatments/joint-preserving-surgery-for-osteonecrosis. I do hope it wasn't useless to have the surgery but I would question that doctor about what is next if they feel that way. There are other treatment options. And it's very important to find the core cause of why it is happening to begin with.
Avatar f tn t let me take things like actonel or that class of drugs as my osteoporosis affected the bones in my jaw and they are afraid to take the chance as with those drugs there is a risk. I was disappointmented about the forteo. I think that drug is more dangerous than its worth personally. Are you still working as an RN? I am not able to work now and I miss it so much. Let me know you turn out regarding the forteo.
Avatar m tn hi there, I have ficat stage 2 ON of the femoral head - will buying a TENS / EMS machine such as neurotrac help to arrest the disease?
Avatar n tn He said it showed a small fracture in the subcondrieal (sp?) and changes in the bone marrow in the ends of the large bones. He said it appeared the marrow was not getting sufficient blood supply. (Swelling contributed to that?). He put me on crutches for the next two weeks said to stay off that leg and made an appointment two weeks out. My question is if the bone marrow is changing due to lack of blood supply it seem insufficient to not review it for two weeks. Is my concern valid?
Avatar n tn when I speak to my patients and explain the interconnectivity of the mouth and specifically the lower jaw to the Cervical (neck) spine and the more they ususally have a blank look on their face. The simple answer is that it could be both ways, meaning yes your scoliosis could have effected your jaw position and/or the other way, the jaw position could have caused your scoliosis.. How to treat it.. stay away from surgery. Find yourself a good Chiropractor, and a Neuromuscular dentist.
Avatar n tn Lots of missing pieces. What is the nature of the surgery, what is your medical history and what drugs are you on?
Avatar f tn I did find a small group with similar symptoms but my Doc said it was not the Nexium. I stopped it and within 4 days, the flank and thigh pain were gone. I was later put on Omeprazole, 40 mg 2x a day fir the past few months. Not sure yet, but my low back muscles are killing me. I do have Osteo and my Endo doc told me to take B-12, Vitamin E and Calcium as I won't take Fisomax or Actonel. You may consider this.
Avatar n tn It is about the only thing that helps my coughing and spitting up of phlegm. I have been to the allergy clinic and am taking weeking allergy shots, also to a pulmonologist and there is nothing wrong that he can find - he thinks I may have a slight case of asthma based on the pulmonary tests done at the hospital with mevacor to induce asthma. He doesn't thinki that asthma is my main problem. Every doctor seems to think it is allergies.
Avatar n tn They just removed my submandibular gland last week, along with a lymph node that was piggybacking on it, and a calcified ligament that runs from the back of the right ear to the bottomw of the jaw line. There was not any blockage in the submandibular gland to cause it to enlarge or be painful, to be honest they do not know what they removed. They removed it for two reasons; very painful, and the complex nodule had grown in size. What size is the nodule?
Avatar n tn Well, since you have dry eyes, ears and nasal passages, there is a possibility that you are suffering from Sjogren’s syndrome. This is an autoimmune disease attacking the moisture producing glands of the body. If at all it is Sjogren’s Syndrome, you may find useful information on this link: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/sjogrens/sjogrens.htm I would strongly recommend you to consult an internal medicine specialist. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn Regarding left jaw and neck- you'll want to make sure you don't have a heart issue, as pain can refer to these areas from the heart. And you may want to get a doppler of your carotid, to make sure it is fully patent. Also, you might go to a dentist specializing in TMJ disorders or a maxillofacial specialist, because a problem with the jaw is strongly suspect with headache on the side with jaw pain. Do you clench or grind your teeth when you sleep?
Avatar m tn Im pretty sure that pain on that sides of my neck is from my back but what about the under the jaw pains that comes and go can back pain cause this at all?
Avatar f tn What are the symtoms of tmj? It seems like my jaw is constantly tight. I don't notice clenching my teeth that often but I know I do it. I have had problems with only the left side of neck shoulder and upper back and also I get a twingy head pain in left temple when bending over. Also left side of head has a constant pressure feeling. So now after having MRI's and nothinh there, I am wondering if it's tmj or clenching of the teeth after all I have dealt with anxiety for 2 years.
Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
553692 tn?1215277731 I have mild degeneration of my meniscus and small joint effusion.Does anyone know how serious this is and if the pain is mostly relieved by surgery. In my searching the internet bone infarct is the same as osteonecrosis. Im very concerned, anyone know anything please help??
