Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
5792451 tn?1390934690 A buccal torus will be on the bone of the mandible (lower jaw bone) but facing towards the cheek/face----- and inside the mouth. Next assignment (grin)----- wash your hands, open your mouth and put a finger inside your mouth and see if you feel that lump on the mandible (lower jaw bone) or within your cheek tissue.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn dental work - there are blackbox warnings about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death) The mother of a woman that I worked with took Fosamax for a few months and her teeth began to loosen - an oral surgeon had to pull teeth from a quadrant of her mouth and add some sort of bone replacement. The oral surgeon who did my root canal 2 years ago told me (reluctantly) agreed that the bone drugs are becoming controversial.
Avatar m tn I went for a cleaning appt , when they did x-rays the tooth deteriated in the gumline and bone .An oral surgeon extracted the tooth and did a bone graph due to bone loss. I was never givien antibiotics. After a wk I still had swelling in my face and the site was oozing pus. It was the weekend I had antibiotics of my husbands (enough for 3 days)I was sure this was an infection.I made an appt w/the oral surgeon . My jaw felt dislocated I couldnt chew and could barely open my mouth.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. Avatar n tn Unfortunately, working out by itself was not enough to help my bone density. I have other issues that also cause this bone problem to be worse. Like thyroid abnormalities. Inability to be in the sun because of a skin problem. So, I take supplemental Vit. D. I eat dairy and plenty of calcium and my bloodwork shows I have adequate calcium intake.
Avatar n tn m 40 years old and recently found out that I also have osteo penia in one of the vertabrae in my lower back and my doctor wants me to take Actonel...however, those bone density medications can really exacerbate the reflux problems.
Avatar f tn I have hypothyroidism andI have jaw problems as it is....I can't open my mouth that wide or my jaw will pop on the left side, but usually I don't have too much pain (just stiffness) unless I eat something tough. At the beginning of this week, I woke up with jaw pain, and now, underneath my chin (almost by the pulse point) I have pain. Does anyone know what this could be? I hope I explained my symptoms well enough! Thanks!
Avatar f tn Almost 2 years ago I had my lower left wisdom tooth removed, ever since I have had problems with my jaw. My jaw now pops, clicks, grinds, and makes crunching noises as well as locks. It causes me a lot of pain at times and seems to now be very sensitive to cold weather. I also notice that when opening and closing my mouth it seems like the alignment of my jaw is wrong, the right side appears to pop out when my mouth opens and the left does not.
Avatar m tn m afraid there may be other things going on (nerve damage from the shot, other problems under the caps, why the bone loss before, etc). Should I just wait it out? If I wanted a second opinion, what type of doctor should I see? An endontist? Oral surgeon? Thanks in advance for your answer.
Avatar f tn food, smelly wind, sore bowels, itchy nd burning bottom. Iv put lots.of weight on and have bone and joint pain 24-7. I feel original symptoms were due to emotional problems and depression not being treated, my doc is not interested in.helping cus of budget cuts, I'm.
Avatar n tn Not sure this is the right category. I didn't see jaw problems forum. I have pain just underneath my jaw bone left side. I thought it was a tooth causing the problem but, it turns out to be underneath the jaw bone. The pain isn't constant but, if i push up there with my index finger it is pretty painful. Is this something to be worried about???
Avatar n tn I am a 59 year old female. The reading on my bone density test is minus 4.1 for my spine and minus 2.6 for my legs and hip. However, my doctor isn't prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again.
Avatar f tn More than 30 years ago, I had a facial injury that caused dislocation of my jaw. My jaw has ached ever since and I have problems opening my mouth. X-rays show that the jaw has "squared-off" an area of my skull, so I guess there is some cartilege missing. I have constant grinding (bone on bone?) and, according to my dentist, my jaw muscles spasm about a dozen times each time I open my mouth.
Avatar n tn Every doctor seems to think it is allergies. I have also recently been to an ear, nose, and throat specialist. Shows chronic sinus problems but no current infection and no need for surgery at the present time. I also do the sinus rinse and have veramyst spray. Ear, nose, and throat specialist said to keep doing what I am doing and contact him in 2 months. I also have GERD and am currently taking Nexium since last May 2007.
Avatar n tn I WENT BACK AFTER 2 WEEKS FOR A FOLLOW-UP AND THE RESULTS FROM THE BIOPSY OF THAT AREA. IT REVEALED I HAD A BONE INFECTION IN MY JAW BONE. I WAS SENT TO AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE DOCTOR WHO PRESCRIBED IV THERAPY (AT HOME) FOR 6 WEEKS. I DID THIS EXACTLY AS I WAS TOLD. I WAS JUST ABOUT PAIN FREE FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 MONTHS. AT THE END OF APRIL, THE PAIN RETURNED. MY ORAL SURGEON CHECKED ME AGAIN, AS DID MY REGULAR DENTIST.
Avatar n tn SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?] ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE WORK THAT NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED, SO HER DENTISTS HAD TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO DO HER DENTAL WORK. THE DENTIST EXPLAINED THAT THE CONDITION OF HER JAW WAS THE EFFECT OF PROLONGED USE OF FOSAMAX. SHE COULD NOT THOROUGHLY EXPLAIN WHAT WAS GOING ON.
Avatar n tn If you cannot afford a massage, you can get relief from massaging the muscle from the middle of the neck up to the corner of the jaw bone. Push up under the corner of the jaw bone and you will feel the tight band that connects to the spot next to your ears. Start massaging that area under the jaw bone then work your way around the corner of the jaw towards the ear. If you have a massaging vibrator, I recommend using it on each side until the muscle releases.
Avatar f tn I noticed today that right under my chin on the left side i have a vein that is darker than usual and i have been having jaw problems i believe i have tmj because my jaw pops and aches. Just wondering if the vein is inflammed due to the jaw pain ????
Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed with 4 abcesses and had to have emergency tooth removal of 2 of the 4 teeth. The dentist informed me that the infection had spread into my jaw bone. Should I have it checked further to make sure all infection is gone?
Avatar f tn Went to oral surgeon who opened site cleaned tissue and scraped bone said bone looked fine. Got a little better had one good day then back to square one. Took a CT scan and tooth site is now filled in with bone. They are stumped while I continue to have the localized jaw pain. Please help. Avatar f tn Hi again, yes they did go away - and almost immediately! It was a situation where my bone scan was debatable I think - one doc said bone loss, my new GP said Im simply smaller framed than the templates they use to measure..now I only take calcium D and workout a little harder...and my ENT tended to agree with that route, at least until my next scan. Also, ENT recommended that I sleep a bit upright on the pillow with head tilted - guess that helps too with reflux overnight.

Avatar m tn I have recently found what feels like a lump on the back lower curve of my jaw bone. It doesnt move, is really hard, and is maybe pea sized. It actually feels like its part of the bone. I am not sure if its just a misformation and has been there all of my life, or is something new. I found it three days ago, and I don't think it has grown at all. I have had pain in that side of my jaw, but its sort of the same pain I have had in it for the last ten years or so.
Avatar n tn Because the pressure never dissipated I started to do what i could to relieve it, which was opening my jaw as wide as I could, and clenching it as hard as I could, which would help to relieve the pressure temporarily. I then switched primary care doctors and he said I have TMJ, "theres nothing I can do and I won't give you a referral to an ENT.
