Avatar n tn ] ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE WORK THAT NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED, SO HER DENTISTS HAD TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO DO HER DENTAL WORK. THE DENTIST EXPLAINED THAT THE CONDITION OF HER JAW WAS THE EFFECT OF PROLONGED USE OF FOSAMAX. SHE COULD NOT THOROUGHLY EXPLAIN WHAT WAS GOING ON. CAN YOU GIVE ME A CLEAR EXPLANATION OF HER SITUATION..I AM INTERESTED AS I HAVE BEEN TAKING FOSAMAX FOR MANY YEARS. I DON'T NEED TO HAVE ANY INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT I'D LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.
Avatar m tn If she has ever taken Boniva, she should worry. Google Osteonecrosis of the jaw, many drugs like Fosomax have bad side effects. A friend lost several teeth and parts of her jaw due to this. She eventually had to have cadaver bone to replace the bone she lost, then implants. She should take other types of calcium supplements.
Avatar n tn There are reports that link people taking IV fosamx to osteonecrosis of the bone having oral and maxilofacial surgery. Treatment really depends upon degree of severity. Most of the time patients are advised hyperbaric chambers.
Avatar m tn I had about 9 surgeries where they cut and released my Achilles tendons so I could walk again without the braces they had to make when I got out of the hospital, they had to break and fuse all of my toes straight, etc. I had horrible pain in them and will forever, so my pain doctor that I have had since the coma had decided we were going to do a Spinal Simulator that would numb my legs from mid-calf to the tips of my toes.
Avatar f tn There definitely is a connection between bisphosphonates like Fosamax and osteonecrosis of the jaws. This has been well established and documented in medical and dental journals. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the type of doctor that most commonly diagnoses and treats this condition.
Avatar n tn i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
Avatar n tn Actonel has a warning in their website that this should not be taken if you have low blood calcium levels as the levels of calcium may further go down with the use of this drug. I would suggest that you proceed with the calcium supplementation and talk to your doctor about retesting the levels of calcium after about a month to see if this would come up. After that, then you may already have no contraindications is using Actonel.
Avatar n tn The biophosphonate drugs have been known to cause osteonecrosis (infection causing loss of bone) of the jaw. A disease you do not want to get. The lecturer said she would never recommend anyone taking them. Having an extraction or even a root canal after taking these drugs can initiate the infection in the bone.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn I recommend checking out the website "Save Our Bones". It is an alternative to using bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, et al) These drugs interrupt the remodeling of bones by adding a "sheath" or layer of hardening to the outside of the bones in an effort to prevent bone "loss". Bones remodel (replace) naturally every few years. One of the problems with bones is our diets are often highly acidic by processed foods.
Avatar f tn com/arthritis/avascular-necrosis-osteonecrosis-symptoms-treatments#2. And here is an overview of the type of surgery that she had https://nyulangone.org/conditions/osteonecrosis/treatments/joint-preserving-surgery-for-osteonecrosis. I do hope it wasn't useless to have the surgery but I would question that doctor about what is next if they feel that way. There are other treatment options. And it's very important to find the core cause of why it is happening to begin with.
Avatar f tn Suzanne, Happy Birthday! I too often wonder how I got old so fast.lol Time flies I guess. I will check out that website. The drs won't let me take things like actonel or that class of drugs as my osteoporosis affected the bones in my jaw and they are afraid to take the chance as with those drugs there is a risk. I was disappointmented about the forteo. I think that drug is more dangerous than its worth personally. Are you still working as an RN?
Avatar m tn hi there, I have ficat stage 2 ON of the femoral head - will buying a TENS / EMS machine such as neurotrac help to arrest the disease?
Avatar n tn My doctor may be thinking of spontaneous osteonecrosis of the knee but he does such a poor job of communication with the patient you fee like he is just setting appointment after appointment hopping it gets better. Which I gather is a valid treatment of osteonecrosis. But he needs to communicate more. He may not be thinking anything and is just hoping things will get better. Sorry venting. Thank you for your response It may be correct or not but it is very useful information.
Avatar n tn when I speak to my patients and explain the interconnectivity of the mouth and specifically the lower jaw to the Cervical (neck) spine and the more they ususally have a blank look on their face. The simple answer is that it could be both ways, meaning yes your scoliosis could have effected your jaw position and/or the other way, the jaw position could have caused your scoliosis.. How to treat it.. stay away from surgery. Find yourself a good Chiropractor, and a Neuromuscular dentist.
Avatar n tn Lots of missing pieces. What is the nature of the surgery, what is your medical history and what drugs are you on?
Avatar f tn Nexium also affects vitamin B12 levels because the body can’t absorb the vitamin without stomach acid to uncouple the vitamin from protein in food. It also affects the absorption of calcium, which in turn can lead to osteoporosis and fractures. Discuss your concerns with your doctor before stopping any medication. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn Has a chest xray been done? Has a CT scan of the chest been done? What do the reports say? What does the pulmonary function tests reports say? How long have you been on the medications? All the treatment you are should benefit with your symptoms. Reconsult your pulmonologist if the symptoms still persist. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Regards.
Avatar n tn They just removed my submandibular gland last week, along with a lymph node that was piggybacking on it, and a calcified ligament that runs from the back of the right ear to the bottomw of the jaw line. There was not any blockage in the submandibular gland to cause it to enlarge or be painful, to be honest they do not know what they removed. They removed it for two reasons; very painful, and the complex nodule had grown in size. What size is the nodule?
Avatar n tn Well, since you have dry eyes, ears and nasal passages, there is a possibility that you are suffering from Sjogren’s syndrome. This is an autoimmune disease attacking the moisture producing glands of the body. If at all it is Sjogren’s Syndrome, you may find useful information on this link: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/sjogrens/sjogrens.htm I would strongly recommend you to consult an internal medicine specialist. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar f tn What are the symtoms of tmj? It seems like my jaw is constantly tight. I don't notice clenching my teeth that often but I know I do it. I have had problems with only the left side of neck shoulder and upper back and also I get a twingy head pain in left temple when bending over. Also left side of head has a constant pressure feeling. So now after having MRI's and nothinh there, I am wondering if it's tmj or clenching of the teeth after all I have dealt with anxiety for 2 years.
Avatar m tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
553692 tn?1215277731 I have has a wrist fusion on the left and a joint revision on the base of the left thumb at the wrist. I have multiple bone infarcts in bith femurs from the knee jionts up about 1/3 of both femur bones and infarcts in both tibial and fibula bone about 3 inches in length down both legs. I also have a lesion in my right upper arm (humerus). I have AVN in my right wrist as well, now as of my last bone scan. So my point is that your body can with stand alot of bone desease and damage.
Nicelady I suffered terribly from hotflashes-to the point of it ruining my life! I tried hormone replacement therapy & everything from black cohosh...to anything else you can imagine. I finally found a total help in the oddest place LOL. A friend sent me to a psychic, because she felt so bad for the decline in my life! Anyway, this psychic recommended taking turmeric powder- 1/5 of a teaspoon 3 times a week. I thought, what the heck?
644083 tn?1282604175 My mothers symptoms consist of pain all the time on the right side of her face which radiates from the upper jaw to the lower jaw.She sometimes has pain in the left side of her face. She has also had just that one side of her face swell up from the inside of the cheek to the outside,up into her ear.She has pain in her neck and shoulders and has problems with her mouth snapping shut. She says that sometimes it feels like she has water in her ear and sounds are really loud.
Avatar f tn I have had false positive for a drug test due to it being too diluted as if I was trying to cover something. The water pills I take for my liver disease caused this.... Lasix and the such.
Avatar n tn Also, you might go to a dentist specializing in TMJ disorders or a maxillofacial specialist, because a problem with the jaw is strongly suspect with headache on the side with jaw pain. Do you clench or grind your teeth when you sleep? I'm a clencher myself and I have both joints with arthritis and joint disc dislocations, with one of them out of place even when I open my mouth (called without reduction, I believe).
Avatar f tn t even feel the pain there at the time) which caused pains on the back of my head on the left and have been going to physiotherapy for 3 months to help it and am only feeling better now. Recovery is slow as muscles tend to tighten involuntarily over time and other muscles are underworked in all the wrong places and it takes time for the adjustment to be fully effective.
