I'm not sure where you live but in the U.S. I now go to Labcorp and pay $70.00 once a month to moniter my uric acid. No doctor needed. Hope this helps, you're not alone my friend.

Avatar n tn During this process uric acid is produced in the bloodstream. And uric acid is good for us because it acts as an antioxidant and helps look after the internal linings of our blood vessels. It's our kidneys' job to process the uric acid produced and excrete waste out of our bodies via our urine, with a little via our stools. What Causes High Uric Acid in Blood?
Avatar m tn Normally, you do not eat for at least 4 hours before testing. Normal values for uric acid are between 3.5 and 7.2 mg/dL. Of course there can be some variations due to your diet and yes, exercise can increase uric acid levels as well. You speak however of quite high values. I dont know how high, but if it is way above 7.2 I doubt if you can blame that all on food choice and exercise. Perhaps you can opt for a second test, see what comes out, before taking other steps.
Avatar n tn My last blood test revealed Uric acid was a little high. I have since been taking medication to reduce that but the swelling is persisting. Can anyone tell me if the swelling on the left foot only is caused by uric acid levels or should I be looking for any other causes,Also how can I get relief from the spur?
Avatar f tn Doctor adviced him to take Zyloric tablet after which uric acid got under control (at 5.2). He is on medication for dibatic, high BP, high Creatinine level and blood thining since few years. Few months back his doctor asked him to stop Zyloric. Within few days he started having severe pain in his right hand's wrist (earlier it was just fingers). His uric acid level went up very high (over 9) and after that his doctor asked him to start Zyloric again.
Avatar n tn Hello~I am 53 years old I have been diagnosed with gout even though a blood test for uric acid came out negative. I have had terrible inflammation in my metatarsal phalangeal joint and the smaller joint closer to the tip of my big toe. I have had a cortisone shot in each. I don't drink, eat shellfish and have a mostly plant based diet. I do have hypertension however and am terrified that maybe I have hurt my kidneys because I take the lowest dose of hypertension medicine.
373367 tn?1246402035 Does anyone have any real info on the link between low uric acid levels and MS? My husband came across something online a few months ago and told me I should buy some inosine (a precursor to UA) and give it a try. I just got my bloodwork back from the life insurance policy today, and the only abnormal level was a low uric acid?? I guess I might as well go buy some inosine, the thousands of dollars we've spent on tests and doctors has pretty much gotten me NOWHERE!
Avatar f tn Trying to help my daughter and came across articles saying high uric acid could cause pain. Is there anything she can take?
646318 tn?1261181494 ---------------------- I told you that you needed to get checked for insulin resistance. High uric acid is associated with having insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia. "In the present study, URIC ACID had an independent, significant association with metabolic syndrome in different logistic analyses, SHOWING A CONSISTENT RELATION TO INSULIN RESISTANCE. Uric acid actually correlated significantly with the fasting and two-hour insulin levels (r = 0.34).
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a 26 yr old male who recently had a mild gout attack because the uric acid levels in my blood were high and so as my cholesterol. The gout is gone now after watching my diet, keeping away from high purines and taking medicine. I just don't want it to come back, so i began researching the internet on what to do. I am quite confused about what foods to eat and avoid for Gout, as what i am reading over the internet, some things seem to be contradictory with each other.
Avatar f tn wow, why is your dr congratulating you on such a low uric acid level??? normal levels are 2.6-7.2 Sometimes high uric acid levels DO cause kidney stones, but yours is below normal level. absolute monocyte levels should range between 40-900. Monocytes are made by the bone marrow and stored in the spleen. Monocytes help to fight infection.
Avatar n tn I went to doctor and he asked me to do a CBC, ESR and uric acid test. The results showed high uric acid level i.e. 8.5 whereas CBC is normal and ESR was 5 which is again normal. He prescribed me adenuric for 15 days and I got myself tested after 15 days and it was 3.5 in my next uric acid test. I left the medicine but body aches and joint pains remain same. Pain is in shoulder joint, arms muscles and back side and also in hip bone. I got myself tested for vitamin D and it was 16.
Avatar f tn proteins like fish and chicken are pure protein and are broken down to uric acid by the body. Uric acid stone form for three reasons, and three reasons alone: 1. Low urine volume 2. Low urine pH (too much acidity in the urine) 3. High urine uric acid.

Avatar m tn With a high uric acid level you should completely avoid beer and meat (produces uric acid) , as well as reduce spinach, chocolate and rhubarb (have oxalates, which can react with high urate to form bad crystals in the blood stream, leading to gout). Try a vegetarian diet for a while, rich in fibre. Good luck!
