osteoarthritis

543791 tn?1216381777 It can be a sign of osteoarthritis, or it can just be from tight muscles in the neck and shoulder area. And like Trudie mentioned massage does help. I also use a heat pack that you can throw in the microwave. I've purchased them at kiosks at malls, at Wal*Mart, TJ Max, Avon- all over the place. If I find one for sale, I usually buy one. I have some for my neck and shoulders, some for my lower back that wraps around my waist and some for my wrists and ankles. I am addicted to heat packs!
Avatar n tn It may be associated with rheumatological disorders such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Another way crepitus occurs is when gas is trapped in soft tissue such as after trauma or surgery. If the clicking sounds or crepitus continues to bother you, you should be evaluated by a physician (PCP). He/she may decide if you need further workup such as bone imaging or referral to rheumatologist or orthopedist.
Avatar f tn I have been having a lot of issues with my neck and back. My symptoms started when I was 22, 7 years ago. It started when I woke up one day and had this pressure on one side of my neck, right under the base of my skull and behind my ear. I had this constant feeling of needing to stretch or crack my neck all day. Well this feeling never went away. Eventually I got the pressure on the other side of my neck as well.
Avatar m tn i fell and landed on my neck and nearly knocked myself out. i landed on the right side of my neck. six months to a year later. i started having problems with the right side of my back. basically my right shoulder blade. and i had landed on the right side of my neck so i was thinking that my injury was the cause. but what im experience is not really pain. its more so just very uncomfortable. the left side of my back feels completley normal.
Avatar n tn Do you exercise? That was the first and only help the docs gave me years ago. However, weight lifting usually injures a joint causing more prolonged painful crepitus. I've had to switch from eliptical to treadmill because even that was too high impact for my joints.
Avatar m tn From a couple of years ago, my body started to develop crepitus all over the places. Started with the left shoulder, then right, then hips, then neck. This seems to happen at night, when I sleep. I always seem to wake up a little worse. Now every way I rotate my body or move things crack or grind in my body, most notably my neck. If I turn it from side to side you could clearly hear its grinding. Very scary.
Avatar n tn I have very slight crepitus in neck when i turn it to the right,. there is no sounds when I turn it to the left or up and down I can sometimes only hear it only when it is pretty quite-even running the water in the sink or car noise will drown it out. Other times it is a bit louder. It is only in a certain spot in my movement where it happens and there is no pain. I had a c3-5 fusion done 20 years ago due to a bad accident, and I was concerned about this noise.
Avatar n tn that cracking sound could be crepitus.
Avatar n tn Crepitus, in joints is associated with wear of the cartilage which leads to osteoarthritis. In soft tissues, it is associated with gas infiltrating an area where it is not supposed to be. Most often it is air. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn The rubbing sound that you hear is called crepitus. This is common heard when 2 bones rub against each other as in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout etc. It is also seen in the infection or inflammation of the meeting point of tendons of muscles with joints. You can consult an orthopedic specialist regarding this. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have had two surgeries in the last year and both times I had crepitus in my chest, neck, face, scalp, arms and hands. The first time it lasted about 10 days, the last time only about 5 days. Even though the doctors and nurses acted like it was no big deal, it was to me. I didn't like being "crunchy" and it really did hurt! Especially in my chest. I also had broken blood vessels in my left eye and the first doctor said that the crepitus "centered" in my eye sockets.
Avatar m tn I have osteoarthritis in my neck moderate and mild in lower back. Can and adjusment help? will they even do an adjustment me? i seem to be losing sensativity in my legs but dont know if iy du to oa in back nad neck.any help would be great. thank you.
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. Avatar f tn He informed me that it something called crepitus (aka subcutaneous emphysema). However looking at crepitus one of the symptoms is a Styrofoam like crunching under the skin. I do not have that; just extreme tenderness to the touch and when I move at all. I am at my wits end with this pain. Can anyone recommend something to help this go away? I am taking 800 mg of ibuprofen three times a day, and walking, and applying a heating pad. None of it has helped so far.
Avatar n tn ve had horrible crepitus this last two months. Every SINGLE joint cracks (toes, shoulder, fingers, knees, elbows, neck, spine) My pain might be psychosomatic but it could also be viral or autoimmune. The thing is, my doctor has no idea.
Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
Avatar n tn Several years ago I had an MRI that showed a bulge near a cervical disc. I had been complaining about crackling noises when bending my neck. The doc said "wait and see". Starting about three months ago I developed muscle pains in both arms, as if I'd been lifting weights. But I haven't. I looked in an anatomy book and it looks like the pain is centered around the radial nerves. Doing pushups doesn't hurt but gripping anything is painful.
Avatar n tn Although I have had 2 surgeries on my cervical spine for ruptured discs and lax ligaments (am now fused from C3-C6), I am now told that I have significant osteoarthritis at C1-C2 (atlanto-axial joint) Accupuncture did relieve a lot of the associated muscle spasms but I still get bone pain sometimes even at the base of my skull. I've also wrenched the left side of my neck twice in the past 6 weeks at work.
Avatar m tn Dear all, Yesterday night, around 1.15am, a dog (we couldn't see it) attacked our female, Kari. After the attack, her neck was swollen, but we couldn't find any trace of an open wound and there was no blood to be seen. We slept with her, but in the morning all her body was swollen, so we bath her with fresh water and kept her under fresh damp cloth, trying to reduce the swollen. She didn't pee that morning. At 9am, she started to have difficulties breathing.
Avatar f tn My husband keeps getting recurrent pain in his neck. He has had to go to the ER a few times and x-rays were normal. He went to the dr. yesterday and she gave him Flexeril and Ultram but they don't seem to help the pain. Tonight I put hot, wet washrags (making them hotter slowly) and after waiting about 15 minutes, rubbed ben-gay on his neck and shoulder muscles. He says 'if I could just crack my neck, I think it would feel allot better'.
Avatar m tn I feel things have been getting better but slowly. Recently, I went to a sports medicine hand doctor and he had said I have osteoarthritis. I reviewed the radiologist notes on the xrays taken and he couldnt find an signs of arthritis. I am concerned that the Dr.'s diagnosis is wrong given that pain started in both thumbs on exactly the same day. Shouldn't the pain have started first in my dominant hand? How can a Dr. make a osteoarthritis diagnosis without evidence on xrays?
Avatar m tn It sounds like the doctors have ruled out the standard reasons for joint problems, like RA or gout. Your description of sand feeling in your joints is a symptom of osteoarthritis. Perhaps you're not old enough for the tests to show yet and it's the beginning of arthritis? I would try surfing for information on "benign crepitus" which is what they call what you have without a diagnosis. I understand working on one's health to reduce inflammation has helped some people.
