It can reduce the vital lung capacity by as much as 30 percent. The gastrointestinal system is affected, particularly the large intestine. When a hunched position is assumed, the body becomes more rigid, and the range of motion decreases.
748543 tn?1463449675 One of the most difficult concepts to get across to my TMD patients and other doctors is the connectivity of the Jaw and the Neck. In fact, it is my strong belief that TMD/TMJ should really be classified as a Craniocervical Disease and hence fall under the umbrella of medical coverage rather than treated strictly as a dental problem. To the Neuromuscular-minded dentist, "Occlusion" is an extension of general Postural Consideration.
Avatar n tn Since then I am having trouble with pain in the neck and shoulder area just below the fusion area. I wake in the morning with a headache then turns to pain in lower neck and shoulders. I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back.

Avatar f tn I have been in and out of doctor's offices, counselors, physical therapy, seen many massage therapists, chiropractors, multiple prescription use, and also have used many modalities of alternative medicine because I suffer from chronic pain all the time, fibromyalgia symptoms, myofascial pain (tons of knots in the muscles...

931217 tn?1283484935 Today's popular press often extols the supposed virtues of more "natural" ways of living, and approaching illness. There are a wide variety of theories and modalities, that together make up the broad category known as "complementary and alternative medicine (and veterinary medicine)." These approaches to health and disease are not monolithic and therefore their merits or lack thereof cannot be discussed as a category. Each must be examined alone.

Avatar m tn I learned a lot about herbs and natural supplements. Alternative medicine has some place in the lives of the sick. I just never could figure out what and where :) One thing great about alternative medicine is that these doctors treat damage done to the body by traditional doctors and their medicines ( not pertaining to cardiology here). I am very depressed about not receiving to me, what would have been"life saving surgery".

329994 tn?1301666848 I was sitting in your office in horrible pain in my neck, shoulders and upper arms and was near tears. I asked you if it could be fibromyalgia (a legitimate question to ask a Rheumatologist) and your reply was “Fibromyalgia is a psychosomatic illness and I don’t believe in it”. The previous year when I had visited your office and told you that I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, you made the same comment and that was the reason I did not return to your office.
Avatar m tn It makes the SAM-e work better and will also give you energy. I have degenerative disk disease in my neck (osteoarthritis) and that causes horrible migraines. The hydrocodone zapped both problems when it got bad, but then last year hit and a lot of emotional problems came with it, (mom dying, daughter having problems, favorite uncle dying, one of our cats dying, I gained some weight) and taking the hydrocodone made it all easier to deal with. I mean, I needed it anyway, right? LOL Yeah..
Avatar n tn I know I have osteoarthritis in my cervical disc area, C4, C5, C6, and the physiatrist wants to do a facet joint epidural injection. The problem is that my pain in not in the back of my head or neck, nor do I have tingling or numbness. The EMG test on my muscles in my arms was completely normal, so I'm not sure I want this injection.
Avatar f tn I get really nervous when I hear people who have severe structural problems such as herniated or bulging discs talking about going to chiropractors, because they can DEFINITELY do more harm than good! Alternative forms of medicine such as acupuncture can be helpful, and even if they do not help, at least they don't cause harm. But moving things around when there is structural damage can be a very dicey thing to do. In my opinion, it's not worth the risk.

Avatar n tn Hello, I have a family member who was prescribed oxycontin, for osteoarthritis and back pain several years ago. He began (almost immediately) to snort his oxycontin instead of taking it as prescribed. He also abused fentanyl patches. This abuse went on for three years, and it was hell. After the third year, he detoxed and was clean for one year. Six months ago, he decided to go back on pain meds, for his pain he told me. His doctor prescribed oxycodone and methadone.
Avatar n tn Chronic lower back pain usually has a more insidious onset, occurring over a long period of time. Physical causes may include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, degeneration of the discs between the vertebrae, or a spinal disc herniation, a vertebral fracture I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I'm going to start looking into alternative methods since modern medicine hasn't been able to help much. The medications take the edge off and sometimes a procedure will bring a little relief for a few weeks. But my pain never gets below a 4 really, and that's on a good day, which is rare.
158939 tn?1274918797 Okay, yesterday was my DEXA scan (to see if my osteopenia - caused by high levels of thyroid meds and no estrogen - has turned into osteoperosis) and an appointment with my internal medicine doctor for bone pain (that I've had since my last I-131 scan). Internal med doc (after I reminded her - again - of my medical history) ordered a nuclear bone scan *STAT* which I had today.

If you ask for everything to be backed by studies, they just tailor the studies to benefit industry. Research things for yourself and don’t be a sheep taking pills from an MD.

Avatar n tn I chose not to do it because I am young and use mostly naturapathic/alternative medicine. Now my shoulders are in constant pain though some days (like today) are far worse than others. Today I cannot reach across my body. I am still not sure that I would have been a lot better off with the surgery, but am almost to the point that I would do anything to make this pain stop. I don't sleep much, my arms go numb if I stay in one spot long.
1684282 tn?1505701570 I am becoming somewhat frustrated with the way a lot of my colleagues practice medicine. Disenchanted, angry would be the other words that could be used. We all get ostensibly that same training and all of us are supposedly in it to help our patients. So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them?
