Mri scan neck lump

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan neck lump

mri-scan

Consult a neurologist for evaluating the swelling, an MRI scan and a fine needle aspiration cytology may be required to pin the diagnosis. Hope this helps. Take care.
Dear Roberta: A CT scan uses x-ray beams to create an image. It is useful to use to diagnose boney abnormalities, bleeds, gross changes in structure of the brain, calcifications, etc. MRI is based on radiofrequences and are useful to denote structure anatomy (much higher resolution than CT), blood flow, myelination, bleeds, etc. They both have their niches in neurological diagnosing.
OK thanks for that Dr Sharma, I've got another appointment with the gp this week so hopefully he will be able to help and resolve the swelling in the neck and arm. With regards the mri scan would any kind of bone cancer be seen on the scan or would this not show up on such a scan?
The doctors found a lump in his neck after doing a scan of some sort. Since then, the lump has now formed liquid that protrudes and moves around his neck - one day it could be over the lump area, then the next it's moved to the front of his throat. He is also having a hard time swallowing. He says that when he swallows, more air goes down than the now puree'd food. The doctors have now been injecting him with the antibiotics because he is unable to swallow them.
If the pain persists, you may ask to see an orthopedist and also have an MRI and/or CT scan. Xrays do not shwo everything and are not always reliable. The MRI and CT scan can show if it is a muscle, bone, tendon or ligament. Hope this helps.
2 days ago I checked my back of my neck and found a lump node, and before 1 month I had some pain on the same side of my neck, maybe the pain was due from stress. But now before the lump showing I had similar pain on my neck, but then the lump showed, I had no symptoms of fever or anything. But I'm feeling that my ears r blocked from time to time, I used to have ear irritation before. And my head feels kinda dizzy, and I just saw another lump on the back of my neck but on the left side.
Well, as you said the first Nuerologist blew me off! He even ordered a cervical MRI saying that he thinks there's just something wrong with my neck. Myself and my daughter informed him multiple times that I have a spinal stimulator in my right hip but he scheduled the other MRI anyway. When the tech called last night to confirm the appt I again informed him of the stimulator.
The pain isn't getting better. I received my MRI copy yesterday and saw this huge lump. My doc is out of the country and waiting for appt for new doc. But this "lump"...what is going on here? Tumor, swelling, etc? I do have some pain in my left inner arm and sometimes on my right upper thigh. I used to have odd dizzy/vertigo as if the floor dropped from under me. Blood work showed normal for those symptoms so we thought it was stress.
I'm not a dummy or anything but doesn't xray's only show pictures of bone? I have had a lump in my neck, they think on my spine (near my hairline, under the skull) so they took an xray. I was thinking it was some sort of mass, maybe tissue or muscle.... what could an xray possibly show? Thank you!
Should I consider having a CT scan of my neck done to look at the thyroid and the surrounding areas? I'd be interested to see if any of the findings are simliar to mommy2two2008's CT scan..... The doctor recommended that I "See endocrinologist as planned", so I'll be seeing the endo on August 5th. I guess this means another almost 2 weeks of waiting before I can start back at the beginning. I can't believe doctors are so terrible with collecting consistent results.
even though it was my gland that was hurting... Which took FOREVER to sort out. He said there was nothing wrong but didn't MRI my neck or anything. What could this be? :-( I havent been able to work all year and it's making me REALLY unhappy.
Pain can be due to wrong posture while sleeping. The lump in the back could also be the cause of pain. Either it is a bony lump or it is a cyst or abscess that is causing pain. A CT scan of the area should be done if the X-rays are inconclusive. Since it developed overnight, it could be an abscess or cyst or an intervertebral disc herniation or bulging. Hence it is important to first find out whether the lump is superficial or from the bone. It is difficult to comment beyond this.
4 years ago my ex threw me into a wall and i didnt go to a+e. i had a huge lump on the bottom of my skull for about 3 weeks. then 1 day i woke up with pain in my arm + shoulder. I started seeing a physio originally for my arm, who said i have a trapped nerve in the neck. Then she told me i have a twisted vertebrae c2. I am experiencing bad lengthy migraines, and occasional sharp shooting pains from the bottom of my head to the top. I knew physio would cause some pain but this is intense.
It is now August, the lump is still there and my lips on the left side where the lump is, don't work. I can't pucker or talk or eat or spit or drink right since. The ENT dismissed me telling me to gently massage the area. Lump and pain still there and no movement in the lips. Today ,I went again to my PCP, who is sending me to an oral surgeon. Help!! I want my lips to work and this lump gone. By the way the ENT said it was an abcessed cyst that was entangled and went into my neck.
If this doctor is not listening, then consult another. At least a CT scan or a MRI of the lump should be done. Hope this helps. Take care!
I had a smilar condtion (noticed a lump in my neck) last year and had gone through CT scan, biopsy and treatment for the infection in the lymph node nd then another CT scan in 6month range. I now notice another or could be same lymph node and my doctor ordered another CT scan. Its been 6 months since my last CT scan but after reading about the radioactive exposure I am sceptical on getting a thrid one.
I am a 34 yr old female and was suspected of having lymphoma with the multiple symptoms I have experienced and continue to over a 4 month period. I had an MRI of the neck and head which showed nothing significant and saw an ENT who checked my throat with a tube/camera. As the symptoms have only intensified over time, would it be better for me to have had a PET cat scan, and possibly looking at my chest or groin area as well? Any advice appreciated.
I completed the dose of keflex about two weeks ago and the lump is still there.(right between my TMJ and my neck, just below my mastoid bone. I feel the lump better when I raise my head up.)she ordered an ultrasound which came back as a lymph node and recommended a CT scan. My blood work showed nothing. Now I really dont want to do the CT scan as I am aware it is not very safe. I asked my doctor for an MRI instead but she refused.
I am unable to lift more than 2lbs cause my arms and wrists burn. My neck and back, legs,on and on.I had ct scan, mri, and they are normal. Last week I got the chest pain again so they did the d-dimer which was a bit lower. 3 days later it was VERY high. No clots are found. The lump is getting bigger. The blood test showed a bacterial infection but she sent me to the dentist to get treated for their guess of a tooth infection.
About 3 1/2 years ago, I experienced really bad pain in my left leg, just below my knee. After a few days, a lump appear, that was about 5 inches in diameter. After several months and tests, an Orthopedic Surgeon looked at my MRI and said that it looked like a lipoma (possibly pushing on my nerves, that is what is causing me the pain), and I needed a plastic surgeon to remove it.
Thyroid counts fine and nodule normal. Had a GI and CT scan, were normal. Went to first ENT and he prescribed acid reflux medication, which I took for a month without change in throat lump sensation. Went to Gastroenerologist and she didn't think I had gerd. She took CT scan to hospital for further analysis and determined I had a throat cyst. Went to her recommended ENT and he performed surgery and removed small throat cyst and viral wart. Still feeling persists.
I would request an MRI. I had an MRI for some of the same reasons you did. They found out I have an Arnold Chiari Malformation. Chiari Malformations can cause neck pain and muscle weakness. This may not be what's happening in your case but I also have generalized dystonia. Most dystonias are focal when they are adult onset (like your hand cramping). I also wouldn't accept them saying your symptoms aren't a big deal.
I have been to an ENT due to a hard lump on right hand side of neck, low down almost at base of neck. Had no pain from the lump itself but had difficulty swallowing food...feels like food is getting stuck on the right hand side of my throat, also feels like tablet or something is lodged in throat. Also suffer on and off with a sore dry scratchy feeling throat again on the right side. Had 2 fine needle aspirations taken and a nasendoscopy.
Whether it needs a biopsy depends on the characteristics of the lump and the opinion of an expert, as well as your own level of concern. As to the MRI: implants get a "capsule" around them, which is a tough fibrous layer the body makes in reaction to the implant. If the implant ruptures, the contents may stay within that capsule (intracapsular), or leak outside it (extracapsular).
Our 18 year old daughter complained about a lump in her throat difficulty talking & swallowing back in January, we then took her to the doctor who did blood work & it came back as Thyroid Peroxidase @ 36H norm: 34, Antithyroglobulin Ab 773H norm:40 T4 & TSH where normal.
In answer to your question, I had a MRI and bone scan, neck down, in 2005. They showed only mild osteoarthritis. My spine at the base of my neck has been sore for a few years. The spinal column feels compressed at that point. I'm thinking Cranial Sacral.
My wife discovered a lump on her neck in february, after antibiotics did not get rid of it and she is in pain when it swells, although it isnt visible to the naked eye, it can be felt, she descrides the pain as aching, and when it does swell she feels ching in one side of her body, after seeing a consultant who thought it may be a cyst, she was referred to the ultrasound dept, after an extensive look the radiologist didnt seem to know and said there is no sign of any cysts but she can detect sev
Just ask for an xray, ct or mri scan to find out. Especially if you get headeaches or any ailments out of the blue on a normal basis. Doctor i wanted to ask you if you know of the average duration i need to be on antibiotics if diagnosed with Chronic Mild Mastoiditis? Ive heard up to 6 months!!!! (Thats Insane) Can you please help me out, im just looking for different opinions besides my Doctors and Ent's.
I recently felt what feels like a lump under my sternum, it feels like its connected to my sternum and only way i even relized he was there was because i was feeling around my stomach area one day. It really doesnt bother me but lately ive been noticing it more and more. I dunno if its all in my head just because i found it. Im just wondering if I should go see a doctor, ive read of the xiphoid process and im not sure if thats what it is.
On Saturday night, I went to bed w/ one of my usual headaches, and woke up with the same one. I went to rub the back of my neck and head, and noticed a lump on the left back side of my head. It hurts to put pressure on it. Since Sunday, it's grown in size and in pain. Let me mention that NO I did NOT hit my head on anything. I've been to the ER, and to my medical on base here. I'm nauseous, dizzy, very tired and week feeling, I'm starting to have these shaking attacks.
