Also I’ve read that many musicians were admitting it they take beta blockers occasionally because performance anxiety. If you fallow what your doctor tells ok for you, then you will be fine. Good luck!
Is anyone taking metoprolol? It's driving me nuts! I do have anxiety disorder. And of course knowing they gave me this to lower my heart rate makes me nervous. And with my anxiety disorder I am taking my blood pressure every hour. I know that doesn't help. But dealing with the metoprolol, it has dropped me to 88/55 at times, today 112/73, then 93/55 then 142/70. I get hot flashes, shakes, tingling arms, a general feeling of panic when I see my reading is low or I feel the shakes....
I have suffered from anxiety for many years. Last month I had a 24 hr, halter monitor and the dr. said I had episodes of a fast heart rate. She put me on metoprolol succ er .25 mg once a day. This has helped but I am very anxious about taking meds. When I started the meds I was working in school and didn't think much about it, but now that I am off for the summer, I am a little more anxious and have been having an occasional skipped beat when I am not busy. Could this be a result of anxiety?
He also said anxiety/depression are NOT side effects of metoprolol. Has anyone else experience anxiety/depression while on metoprolol, especially on high doses? BTW I take metoprolol for IST.
, and I don't feel a blood rush any more. I have been on generic Metoprolol XL 50mg for 1 month, and now 25mg for 1 month. As I said, there were significant side effects, especially on 50mg. The side effects on 25mg seem to be slowly lessening, and they sure beat the nagging, incessant PVC's and tachy.
I also have a mild mitral valve prolapse. I was placed on metoprolol 25mg twice a day for this issue. I only take 25mg in the morning however, my cardiologist is aware and is fine with it. I have been contemplating pregnancy for a while now and wanted to try to wean myself off of the metoprolol so my cardiologist just said that the dose was so small I could just stop taking it. I also have very bad panic disorder.

What anxiety drugs can I take that do not interact with Warfarin or Metoprolol? I have taken Lorazepam, and while it works quite well, its calming effects are too short lived.
And its not Metoprolol that helps anxiety. It's actually Propranolol that treats stage fright and performance anxiety, which is a b2, not a b1 blocker. Just some thoughts.
Fine the next day except for mild tiredness. ER doctors have diagnosed as either an anxiety attack, or most recently, Vertigo. B.P. is brought back to normal ranges over a 2 or 3 hour period. Could this be related to the Metoprolol? I am somewhat sensitive to other medications. Doctor has also presribed Hydrochlorot, 25 mg, Triam/HCTZ 37.5-25, Amlodipine, 5 mg. Each of these are taken 1 x daily.
1 mg of Paxil send me to the ER and same for Lexapro, didn't had problem with both drugs before and took them for my anxiety for years. I'm on a high dose of clonazepam 7 mg day, I'm addicted and do a very slow tapering withdrawal... Will take years to get off the clonazepam. I also deal with many panic attacks every day, can't get out th house, can't stay alone, everything trigger heart related symptoms like tachycardia or chest pain, a loud sound, music, too much people's around me...
My cousin is a jazz sax player, and takes tiny doses of Metoprolol to control anxiety before performances, and it works for him, but he sure sleeps well after taking the drug. I'd ask your doctor if you could try HCTZ, quit taking beta blockers, buy a blood pressure monitor, and take your BP twice a day, and track it. He/she may have a strong reason to continue taking the medication, but why not ask the question?
I was wondering if anyone out there was using Metoprolol for their SVT on an as needed basis??? I have SVT and was started out on this drug and took it for a few months. With ok from my doctor I quit taking it. I hadn't had any episodes for about 6 months then I had one last night while I was sleeping. And it was a bad one, the kind where you think your gonna die. :( My doctor had told me that some people can take Metoprolol on an as needed basis. Thanks!
5mg 1x a day is considered a low dose). b.) What is the likelihood that metoprolol can be helpful for the aforementioned symptoms, especially in such a low dose? c.) Is 12.5mg minor enough to be able to stop taking fairly easily? Could taking it actually make my conditions worse? Thanks for any considerations and responses.
If one goes in for an electrophysiology study, they will be told to discontinue Metoprolol (just) 3 days before the procedure as it's quickly removed from the body. So in your case, within 12 hours your original dose of 25mg has been greatly, but not completely metabolized when you take another 25mg. Slowly, you build up a therapeutic level.
Hey guys, I take Metoprolol SUCC ER 50 mg once a day for what they THINK is mostly just inappropriate sinus tachycardia and a bit of anxiety that probably grew from that. At normal, my hair was probably the richest and thickest you would have ever seen but now, its getting oily much quicker, and has gotten SEVERELY more thin and light. I'm only 22 and good hair genes runs in my family, its not like im genetically pre-disposed to hair loss. Does anyone think it can be the medication?
I'm 33 years old and prescibed Metoprolol for my heart palpitations, which happens everytime I eat food. After all cardiac tests came back normal, she mentioned that it may be stress related. I'm now being prescribed 20 mg Celexa for aniexty. I only take 6.25 mg of Metoprolol, cutting it into quarters, but are scared to take the two in combination. There are so many warnings about not mixing them. My heart rate has slowed down with the Celexa, but I still get the pounding sensation.
My doctor thinks the pvcs originate from the right outflow tract near the pulmonary branch and suggested I take either verapamil or metoprolol (the doctor says it is hit or miss and told me to take what I want.) I am terrified to take anything that could make things worse as I can barely handle my symptoms now. Verapamil can apparently cause asystole, heart block, proarrhythmias.
Following are my observations on day two of substituting Atenolol 25 mg twice a day for Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day.. both are regular, for Metoprolol it is called Tartrate, I think the Atenolol comes in only one normally longer lasting form. Today in the early afternoon, following my third 25 mg dose of Atenolol at about 9 AM, I noticed some dizziness when I rose from a time sitting.
I was on lexapro before being pregnant along with metoprolol for high heart rate. They took me off everything cold turkey. I was pissed because they didn't replace it with something safe. I was fine for a month without anything but now my anxiety is increasing.
trace mitral and tricuspid inefficiency, EF 53%, borderline global hypokinesis (my left ventricular motion is borderline reduced, but structurally normal). Overall, the doctor said I was fine but hypertensive, so he put me on 10mg of Ramipril for my BP. Recently, I've had continued issues with anxiety during exercise and palpitations. So I was told to come in for another stress test. I took it and they saw ST depressions.

Recently diagnosed w/ PSVT. I underwent brain CAT Scan, heart ultrasound, ECGs, & blood testing; all were normal. Only after a Holter was PSVT diagnosed. Cause unknown and I do have blood tests scheduled to check for adrenal / thyroid problems. My heart rate is normally 60-70 BPM resting & BP 120-130 Systolic / 80-86 diastolic (w/o medication) but at times it goes to 100-130 BPM & 150-160 Systolic / 90-110 Diastolic. Sometimes I noticed it & sometimes not but Holter showed it.
Here's the question- I am wondering if these PVC's and PAC's that I have been experiencing in the past 2 months have to do with suddenly stopping the metoprolol that I was on for my high blood pressure. I don't recall ever getting them before and now they occurring constantly..I was taking metoprolol 25 mg twice a day and then my dr discontinued it because I found out that I was pregnant. Now I am taking something else for the blood pressure that is safe to take in pregnancy.
They would come and go and I would just barely notice them. This last January my doctor took me off of Effexor XR for an anxiety condition I have. As soon as she did the PVCs hit with a vengeance. I don't get them like some (many 1000s a day or worse) but I get about 400-1000 a day, depending on the day. One thing I have noticed is that I have good days and bad days and can't seem to figure out what causes one over the other.
my hr has always been inthe high 80's 50-100 resting is considered norm anything over 100 is tachyardia I would weigh it out I was on it for 5 years 12.5 x2 daily I cut if cold and had bad anxiety after the first week then went back on 12.5 1x daily and then went off completely .. but you are fine ... if you haveother symptoms i might call the doc but it should calm down.
Hello. I am hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I am 39 and have known I have very mild Mitral Valve Prolapse for years. It caused me NO problems whatsoever, then one day WHAM panic attacks and anxiety. Long story short, after several trips to the ER, cardiologists visits, Internal Medicine docs, psychiatrist. They all conclude Panic disorder/Anxiety. I have since learned that many times people with MVP are more prone to panic and anxiety.
I do suffer from anxiety attacks and have been taking klodopin to help with the attacks. I guess I'm looking for someone that was in the same situation as me, I was told to get off metoprolol because it made my heart race all the time... I feel like I didn't take the drug long enough for any serious side effects to happen, my blood pressure did go back up but not any higher than before and when my pulse goes up I take a klodopin and it brings it back down in a matter of minutes.
My EP doctor is changing me from 100mg metoprolol xl to 120mg diltiazem for svt. I have been on metoprolol xl for at least 10 yrs and I am still having episodes of flip flops so we talked about changing medication to see if it helps. He said I could just stop taking the metoprolol and start on the new. Would I not have any withdrawl off the metoprolol xl? Does diltiazem help with anxiety also? Is diltiazem better for svt flip flops?
