Metoprolol for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol for anxiety

toprol

Avatar f tn I take this medication as well and have been on it for 3 years. I have never experienced depression while on this medication. I believe your doctor is correct in that this is not a side effect of the medication. I have not heard of weight gain from this medication as well. Maybe this is a side effect of your depression? In other words, you are eating more because you are depressed.
Avatar f tn t like to take pills at all but I am at the point I have to take something for this anxiety because I am barely functioning! I have health anxiety and the PVC's don't help. When I take the Metoprolol it does slow my heart rate so I am afraid if I take the Xanax it's going to slow it even more (heart rate is between 63-75 with med). Please answer as soon as you are able-THANKS.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your prompt answer, I'm having anxiety right now because I'm afraid I'm going to have a heart attack in the movie theater hahah.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm dealing with tachycardia arrhytmia since more than 2 years now. My Cardilogist at first said it was dysautonomia and POTS and blame also my severe anxiety and was put on a beta blocker, propranolol 20 mg day. At first it was working on to stop the tachycardia but with time the effect wear off and had to increase my dose and then it was lowering too much my blood pressure so my Cardiologist switch me on another beta blocker...
Avatar m tn My cousin is a jazz sax player, and takes tiny doses of Metoprolol to control anxiety before performances, and it works for him, but he sure sleeps well after taking the drug. I'd ask your doctor if you could try HCTZ, quit taking beta blockers, buy a blood pressure monitor, and take your BP twice a day, and track it. He/she may have a strong reason to continue taking the medication, but why not ask the question?
Avatar m tn What anxiety drugs can I take that do not interact with Warfarin or Metoprolol? I have taken Lorazepam, and while it works quite well, its calming effects are too short lived.
Avatar m tn I used and still use today Metoprolol as a cardiac rhythm stabilizer, for mild hypertension, and for heart attack survivability although there is now some doubt on that claim. For the earlier two though it works excellent with little to no side effects. But if you're anxious, if I were you, I'd want to try some of the SSRI drugs like Paxil or an SNRI like Venlafaxine (Effexor) both which worked great for my wife. Just a cautionary note on Effexor.
Avatar f tn I was on lexapro before being pregnant along with metoprolol for high heart rate. They took me off everything cold turkey. I was pissed because they didn't replace it with something safe. I was fine for a month without anything but now my anxiety is increasing.
Avatar f tn I too have PVCs (and Long QT, occasional tachycardia, etc.). Metoprolol works for me, especially when I take it with a Super C vitamin that includes Vitamin D and zinc. The doc had tried me on Bystolic when I was in the hospital 2 years ago and it worked too. Glad you found something that helped you and hope that you're still doing well!
443862 tn?1237999439 It sounds like your body and mind interpret the changes in a way that produces more anxiety. If you are taking it for anxiety only, there might be some better choices for you. Maybe discuss with your doctor. Also, with the heart rate and blood pressure checking, have you ever thought of exposure therapy? I did that and it proved to me that my symptoms weren't posing any serious health threat.
Avatar m tn I've taken metoprolol for six days for high blood pressure, it made me feel lousy, groggy and gave me headaches. I want to stop it cold turkey, my doctor says its ok with such a small dose but I am a huge worrier and would like to know if anyone had any side effects when stopping even after taking it for such a short period of time??
443862 tn?1237999439 I was on Metoprolol 25 mg er for 4 years. It made nervous at first and increasing gave me Eczema. If you don’t have heart disease and just high blood pressure, propanolol a Bateblocker, blocks anxiety by working on the Serotonin receptors in your gut as well as works to get your blood pressure down. But it is not a preferred cardio beta blocker for heart disease. I absolutely hate metoprolol. I believe I am allergic to it.
Avatar m tn I was given Toprol XL 25 mg to take but I am afraid to take it. I know its my anxiety talking but is it safe to take when it is for anxiety and to steady my heart rate? Also how does it make you feel?
Avatar f tn I'm currenetly taking 25mg daily of Metoprolol ER. This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?
Avatar n tn I’m only taking 5 mg of lisinopril and I take 150 mg Zoloft I’ve been having a extra heartbeat (palpitations ) my cardio put me on 12.5 mg of metoprolol a 25 mg cut in half is this all safe to take togather.?
Avatar m tn The metoprolol just has seemed to make my anxiety worse which I have read one of the side effects of metoprolol is increased anxiety. I lowered my dosage because of the side effects I was feeling and it was taking my resting heart rate is the low 50's and made my breathing feel very low and shallow.
Avatar f tn m just curious to see if anyone else out there has experienced Depression/Anxiety as a side effect to Metoprolol? 7 weeks ago, I was put on Metoprolol ER, 50mg a day. As a child, I dealt with Anxiety and phobias on a pretty high level, and went through years of counseling. Over the past few years, I have had everything under control, and been doing beautifully, barely noticing any real issues from my past. I was put on the Metoprolol to help control some issues with my heart.
Avatar m tn My doctor prescribed Zoloft for me at 25mg a day for two weeks, then 50mg a day thereafter. He knows all the meds I currently take, of course. I've been reading online that Zoloft and Metoprolol can interact together in a dangerous way. I am sure my doctor knew this, so I am wondering why I was given this combination? Does anybody know about this interaction? Is it only dangerous if I were taking much higher dosages?
Avatar n tn i took inderal for years i took 10 mg twice a day , it was good for me but after a while it didnt help with my pac/pvc so i switched to timiolol and its great, bneen on it for 17 years with no problems .
Avatar n tn 5mg of metotoprol once perday and xanax I Have been taking the metoprolol for a year now at 12.5 mg per day is there any chance that my body could build up a tolerance to it? And does the Beta Blocker weaken the heart in any way? Could those rates and there durations be caused be panic attacks and anxiety/stress? I had an ekg 1 month before this all started and it was normal with a NSR. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
Avatar m tn Fine the next day except for mild tiredness. ER doctors have diagnosed as either an anxiety attack, or most recently, Vertigo. B.P. is brought back to normal ranges over a 2 or 3 hour period. Could this be related to the Metoprolol? I am somewhat sensitive to other medications. Doctor has also presribed Hydrochlorot, 25 mg, Triam/HCTZ 37.5-25, Amlodipine, 5 mg. Each of these are taken 1 x daily.
Avatar m tn I hav been on metoprolol for 10 years, due to PVC:s, PAC:s and runs of them. The first year I got wery tired, my resting pulse was not so low as yours, perhaps 55-60, but I was never able to stay up longer than nine o´clock in the evening. Then I fell asleep. When I was at a party I laid to rest on some sofa and in 15 minutes past nine I slept :-) That side effect eventually went away and after the first year my resting pulse was up again and the fatigue was gone.
