Common Questions and Answers about Methadone withdrawal insomnia

methadose

Avatar f tn i am a reasonably healthy 46yo female & spent 18 years on methadone before being involuntarily withdrawn from 75mg methadone over an 8 week period. Last 20mg I came off at 1mg per day. I am now taking (not prescribed) 5-20mg methadone per day as I couldn't cope with some withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is not available to me in New Zealand & my GP prescribed zopiclone 7.5mg for sleep.
Avatar n tn So far on the 12th day of no methadone ive not experienced any of the horror storie withdrawal symtoms everyone writes about. I do however have insomnia and mild diahrea and occasional sneezing. I know these symptoms are my body telling me it wants methadone. But i can handle this. I just want to know how much longer till i feel 100% again. IM aware it takes awhile and why but please somebody smarter than me give me something to shoot for, how much longer. A couple days,---a week,--2weeks??
Avatar f tn You should definitely be tapering the pills to minimize the symptoms of withdrawal. The withdrawal from it is essentially the same as the one for the opiates and usually takes several weeks of the really nasty symptoms followed by several more of just insomnia and general weakness and depression. Switching to methadone would not be a good idea, because than you will have withdrawals from that.
Avatar f tn The severe symptoms go away in four to six weeks with methadone, but the residual insomnia, weakness and depression can last for months. Make sure those are addressed and discussed with a physician so that you do not fail long term. Please take some time to look at my blogs (by clicking on my name and then blogs)to get more information. My website (www.mdsdrugdetox.com) also has lots of information. You have a lot to live for and you obviously know what is important in life.
Avatar f tn With respects to the doc at that er, the xanax withdrawal is what will kill you, not methadone or other opiate withdrawal. I'm surprised at the meds you were given; I am assuming that they figure you were too far out to worry about DTs from benzo withdrawal, but typically withdrawal from benzos (xanax or alprazolam,, valium or diazepam, ativan or lorazepam,, etc) is treated with antiseizure meds like barbiturates or depakote.
Avatar n tn This individual will almost certainly experience opioid withdrawal. While "unpleasant" this will not be life-threatening. Early symptoms of withdrawal include: Agitation Anxiety Muscle aches Increased tearing Insomnia Runny nose Sweating Yawning Late symptoms of withdrawal include: Abdominal cramping Diarrhea Dilated pupils Goose bumps Nausea Vomiting http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000949.
Avatar f tn I always say its not so much the withdrawal but the post withdrawal that sets methadone apart from the other narcotics it can take a wile to feel better coming off this stuff.....
Avatar f tn I am a recovering addict myself and know only too well how hard it is to come off methadone. . But you have only been using methadone for 6 months so with the right support you will get back to your old self in no time. .. it may take a few weeks or even a few months but the insomnia and agitation will pass and you can move on with your life. .. anyway keep up the good work and take care. ...
Avatar f tn I applaud you resolve to stay clean, but want to caution you that methadone is a long acting narcotic and your withdrawal symptoms will stick around for quite a while. You will feel rotten for as long as four to six weeks. You can try asking a physician to prescribe you some Requip for restless legs, Clonidine for blood pressure and general anxiety control and maybe get some over the counter Valerian for sleep and sedation.
1722824 tn?1309679811 well its really up to you jumping at 4mg jump starts your recovery buy a couple of weeks I tapered down to 1 from 150 and tapering below 5 was miserable and my final withdrawal was no worst then tapering below 5 so I tell everyone jump and just go threw the withdrawals there is no getting around them you go threw them no mater how you go off its just a mater of how soon you start get yourself a case of gatoraid and some highlands restful legs you can pick both up at walmart your final withdrawl
Avatar f tn I believe everyone is different. I was on klonopin for 2 years and became pregnant and had to ween off of it. This was not hard. However I was unable to ween off subutex (not recommended because opiate withdrawal can be very dangerous for an unborn baby) and switched to methadone for my pregnancy which is the most studied and safest drug to take while pregnant.
Avatar f tn ( And.....it *****! I knew it would be bad, but not this bad. It's so hard to not think about how you feel. And if I try to keep myself busy, I end up in so much pain that its even worse than to start with. I've researched alot over the last week, and have tons of vitamins and have been taking clonidine. It seems to help with the symptoms...a little. But it definitely doesn't help with the insomnia...nothing has helped that. I've tried Benadryl, melatonin, and even Trazadone. So.
Avatar f tn I have in my journal an article written by a dr about methadone and withdrawal. I went off methadone cold turkey from 65 mg and it was hell..in my opinion there is little difference in w/d from 10mg to 65 mg in terms of w/d..others may disagree but I don't care. methadone has a very long 1/2 life..meaning it build itself up in your system..lets say according to your wifes metabolism that the methadone stays in her system 36 hrs..
Avatar f tn Well that went on until September 2011 started taking methadone. 40mg and day from September 2011 - June 2012. I came clean to my grandmother & stayed with her for about 3 weeks. She helped me so much. Slipped a few times and found myself on the hydrocodone again :( I'm so tired of this!!!! I love my daughter more than anything in this world & I want us to have a good life. I have the most amazing family.
Avatar m tn ve talked with many in Methadone treatment who have tapered off and it takes a while. It seems that the insomnia never goes away, the energy level is way too low,the GI system is a mess, mood is dim... Are you eating well? Taking vitamins, getting exercise? What do you do during the day? Keep posting...
4394616 tn?1355257218 Methadone detox is a much longer than other opiates. Take hot baths with Epsom salts for the aches and pains. A magnesium//potassium supplement, protein shakes, time and patience will be your healer. Try to exercise to get your natural endorphins producing again. Have you tried alternate methods of pain relief? How long were you on the meth?
Avatar n tn if youve read my other posts you know i have some pretty horrible insomnia and im pretty deep into oxy abuse. ive heard about methadone even seen it on friends. im wondering sinse i dont have a doctor or medical insurance how would i go about getting it. from what i know about it its pretty good at helping you avoid withdrawls. is methadone a smart way to quit? is it safer then taken lots of oxies all day?
Avatar f tn so you stopped methadone at 120-140mg????....You probably feel so rough because methadone has to be tapered down real slow...I was on 80-90 mg a day for over 7 yrs and it took me 6 months to taper...today is 26 days methadone free for me and I'm still feeling withdrawals...I've heard it can take around 90 days to feel better....you can pick up a calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement, take 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening..it will help with rls....
4832551 tn?1359761830 I was wondering why after almost a month I am not feeling any better and still get RLS and insomnia. I am also rxd methadone that I haven't been taking since I got suboxone strips. I was wondering if I took a 4th of one after not taking a strip no bigger than 1 cm , would I suffer worse w/d symptoms or would it take this horrible pain away and then I could just keep tappering off methadone until I feel better.
135222 tn?1210432488 Just the other day I was saying that I had weaned down from 50mg of methadone to 40mg in two months and was feeling pretty good. Except for some minor insomnia that was true. I think I may have spoke too soon. I have been forcing myself to go to sleep around 2am and keep waking up every hour and am having bizarre dreams. By 8am I have had enough and get up. Last night was really bad. I went to sleep with the AC on as it was quite hot out.
1017452 tn?1254904998 My hubby's using benzos to help with his withdrawal off methadone. Not every day and not very much but my question is... Will he develop a dependancy for those too? He's got 2 more days on 1mg of methadone then that's it!!!
Avatar n tn What are the withdrawal symptoms from Hydrocodone and how long will they last? I've been taking 1 or 2 10-325s a day for about a year for knee pain and quit a few days ago. I'm suffering from nausea that lasts from the time I wake up in the morning until about 12:00 noon. And I still don't feel well even then. I would really appreciate this information, as I'm starting to think there is something seriously wrong with me. Thank you!
Avatar m tn HI I always say it not so much the withdrawal that makes methadone so hard to kick but the post withdrawal energy crash........
