Avatar f tn She still had awful withdrawal the first 24 hours even on methadone. And some mild withdrawal after the methadone tapper had ended. Irritable, shakey, low grade fever and lethargy.
Avatar f tn Research has not shown that reducing the dosage of methadone reduces the likelihood of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) but studies have shown that women who attempt to taper down their dosage while expecting have Decreased weight gain More illicit drug abuse Less compliance with prenatal care guidelines Lower birth weights Smaller infant head circumferences Slower fetal growth Premature delivery Methadone and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) One of the biggest concerns most women have whi
Avatar m tn All pregnant opiate-addicted women are advised to take methadone as a part of a medically supervised methadone maintenance treatment program. Methadone is currently the only medication approved for the addiction treatment of pregnant women who are addicted to heroin or other opiates. The fetus feels withdrawal symptoms during pregnancy.
861995 tn?1239174691 I have quite a bit of info on my blog about buprenorphine and pregnancy-- search pregnancy at suboxonetalkzone.com . I have some references there as well. Your challenge is to avoid getting wrapped up in the judgmental attitudes of others, and instead decide on the plan that is right for you-- and trust your own judgment.
Avatar f tn The more progressive doctors will allow an opioid-addicted mother on buprenorphine to continue to take buprenorphine while breast feeding, as doing so will effectively taper the infant off opioids over time. Whenever a woman on opioids breast feeds, the infant receives a tiny fraction of what the mother is on, and much of that is broken down by the infant liver before reaching the general circulation.
Avatar n tn If a pregnant mother is taking daily methadone, and is 7 months pregnant, I know the baby will be addicted to methadone. How serious is the withdrawal process for this little infant. Will there be long term effects? If the mother is considering of giving up the baby for adoption, how do you prepare the adoptive parents for this?
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30mg of methadone and have been for a little while now. I tried to make a switch from Methadone to Suboxone but started the detox too early and went through rapid withdrawals and went back on the methadone. I heard that if you make the switch to Subutex instead, you will not have the withdrawal like you do the Suboxone, because it does not have the opiate blocker in it. Has anyone ever experienced the switch from Methadone to Subutex, and if so, how was it?
Avatar f tn I got pregnant in 2010 with my first son and was using oxycotoin, soon as i found out i wss pregnant i got on methadone. When he was born i was on 95ml and he came out fine and only scored up to 2. I have been on methadone since then and just had another boy that was born jan 29 2014, i was on 75ml and his score was all the way to 15 before they decieded to put him on morphine.
Avatar f tn My first son, Dexter, went through an 11 day morphine withdrawal, because I was on methadone at the time. I was on 235 mgs (I know...), split dose, and right before his 1st birthday, was 100% detoxed. I have seen first hand what an infant goes through, if detox occurs and it broke my heart a million times, every day he was in the NICU. He was 8 lb. 9 oz., and late! He had increased muscle tone, annd that was it. He is very healthy, and eerily intelligent.
Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. But have been clean for many years now, thanks to the methadone.
Avatar n tn my daughter is 33yrs old and was arrest on 8/27/08. At the time of her arrest she was on daily methadone (110mg). since they don't give methadone in jail she was forced into cold turkey withdrawal. Last thur4day she was sent to a mental health faciltiy because she is seeing things and hears voices. Please can anyone tell me is this somtimes part of the withdrawal or has she possible lost her mind.
434196 tn?1206385870 t any long term studies to show whether subutex/suboxone use is truly safe or not during pregnancy. I did read that Subutex will cause infant withdrawal that is comparable to methadone. I don't know what that is......but, I don't like the sound of it either way. Thanks to Dr. Pepper for taking the time to respond. Nauty...............
Avatar f tn The level of misinfo on here about this subject is sad. Here are some facts: There is an EXTREMELY HIGH risk of miscarriage if you detox from methadone while pregnant. Lowering your dose WILL NOT mitigate neonatal withdrawal symptoms after birth. The fetus absorbs much of the dose, causing mom to be in constant withdrawal if dose is lowered, which is dangerous to the fetus. Federal methadone guidelines now recommend dosage increases during pregnancy. Yes, the baby will go through withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I know as a mother that it is not easy to see your child suffer, but understand, this is all part of recovery, your daughters body is undergoing many changes due to having little or no methadone, it will get better, but only if she stays off methadone. The symtoms of methadone withdrawals vary from person to person, mine were like riding a roller coaster, some days were good, then the next day Id feel as if I were back on my first day of detoxing, so shes gonna have good days & bad.
Avatar f tn I believe everyone is different. I was on klonopin for 2 years and became pregnant and had to ween off of it. This was not hard. However I was unable to ween off subutex (not recommended because opiate withdrawal can be very dangerous for an unborn baby) and switched to methadone for my pregnancy which is the most studied and safest drug to take while pregnant.
Avatar f tn GoingTo MakeIt is correct it can be mild or severe, from my own personal experience during my detox from methadone, it was bad during the first two weeks, but I still functioned, as best as I could anyway, I tapered down from 90mgs down to 2mgs then stopped, my symtoms were like many who stop methadone, no energy, depression, bad anxiety, couldnt sleep, sneezing, etc. It has been 2 1/2 months since being off methadone & I am back to my pre-methadone days, & very happy about my success!!!
Avatar m tn Yep right here!!...I swear, & not many people believe me, but my methadone withdrawal was almost like nothing!!...I was on it for 8yrs highest dose about 100mg, & from January to March 24, 2012 I tapered completely off...by myself..no Dr...I was 3months clean & started to have bladder/kidney pain, had some surgeries, got on oxycodone for that & am currently trying to taper off it...let me tell you, it has been beyond WORSE than the methadone!!!...
Avatar n tn can my gp prescribe something for my cocodamol addiction (withdral) like methadone or somethng to get through the pain and symtoms?
Avatar f tn Nucynta will keep you from feeling withdrawal, it is a full agonist synthetic opioid, just like methadone. Personally, I would taper down as low as you can before the switch. Methadone is very strong, and if I'm not mistaken, Nucynta is closer to a percocet. You will be okay, and the new child should lift your spirits. I agree with your doctor about the methadone, you don't want to stay on it too long. Let us know how it goes.
1271743 tn?1320892461 If you are taking Morphine for a couple of months and the doctor changes you to Methadone, will the Methadone prevent withdrawal symptoms normally experienced from stopping the Morphine?
