Avatar f tn ll see your post and reply. He has quite a bit of experience with Methadone and withdrawal and he can advise and explain. In the meantime, look in the "health pages" upper right of this page. You'll see articles there related to Methadone and Suboxone/Subutex. They're very good. Be patient...it's late and things are slow but there are many who can share their experiences with you.
877402 tn?1241569071 Subutex is given during the first few days of treatment, while Suboxone is used during the maintenance phase of treatment. Like methadone, Suboxone can then be gradually weaned and stopped, eliminating physical dependence on opioids. Clonidine is a blood pressure medicine that acts on the brain. Clonidine reduces the effects of the "fight or flight" response, which is over-activated during opioid withdrawal.

Avatar f tn The level of misinfo on here about this subject is sad. Here are some facts: There is an EXTREMELY HIGH risk of miscarriage if you detox from methadone while pregnant. Lowering your dose WILL NOT mitigate neonatal withdrawal symptoms after birth. The fetus absorbs much of the dose, causing mom to be in constant withdrawal if dose is lowered, which is dangerous to the fetus. Federal methadone guidelines now recommend dosage increases during pregnancy. Yes, the baby will go through withdrawal.
Avatar n tn If you are having such a hard time of it on the Suboxone then going back on the Methadone may be the best choice for you. Im curious why you transitioned from Methadone to Suboxone in the first place. You wont go into precipitated withdrawals going from Suboxone to Methadone. That only happens going the other way.
Avatar m tn I have many patients who are glad they changed from methadone to Suboxone, but I would not go through the trouble with the expectation that you will therefore be able to get off everything. In fact, it is probably easier to taper using methadone than using Suboxone for the reasons I mentioned at the start of these comments.
Avatar m tn If you took some Methadone after taking Suboxone...that's why you feel so sick. Now that you've taken Suboxone, the Methadone will not work. Never take opiates when you're taking Suboxone, okay?
Avatar f tn Hey I was wondering if anyone knew if while I was trying to withdrawal from methadone. I started to use my DOC again and I am going to try a withdrawal using small amounts of suboxone for 3-4 days and then nothing. A friend is locking me in his house (he is a nurse) and going to try and help me.
Avatar f tn I too was a 20 year methadone patient. I have tried numerous times to switch to suboxone. On suboxone I cannot sleep, I have extremem anxiety, and I have no energy. I am not sick but I do not feel normal. I have been told by the manufacturer that this is a common complaint from long term methadone maintenance patients. I suggest you return to methadone. Follow your own bodies advice and ignore the rest. Only you know how your body functions and reacts to medication.
Avatar f tn Did you ever try suboxone isnt methdone pretty strong or at least stronger than suboxone if you havent maybe try the sub that is what it is for withdrawal..
Avatar f tn I came completely off of the methadone for a week(was taking oxy for that week to help with withdrawal) I finally got tired of chasing after pills and went back to the methadone clinic..so I am now up to 40mgs and have my suboxone appt monday @ 1:15..Im wondering if I take my dose tomorrow @ 8am if I will be ok to start suboxone monday afternoon..my dr office has no nurses and the receptionist all say they have never heard of having to be so manys hours into withdrawal before starting suboxone.
Avatar f tn i know it didnt for me, but i also chose long term maintenance ahead of time, i do not think the 21 day taper protocol would benefit him at all, that MAY work ok with a transition from of a low dose percocets or oxies to suboxone, but not methadone, NO WAY, that taper regime is with low doses, he WILL need more than 4, 6, or even 8 mgs of sub, i am CERTAIN of this part.
Avatar f tn Hey all. I've been on 35mg methadone for 2 years and have to switch to suboxone for insurance reasons. The suboxone doctor just told me to skip one days worth of dose and come in "withdrawaling"... I'm scared that one day won't be enough and I'll go into precip withdrawals, but I don't want to go into full fledged withdrawal because I know I'll get high to alleviate the feeling and end up losing my job (I've been clean for the entire 2 years). Any tips?
Avatar f tn Suboxone is a very powerful opiate for the number of mgs in a dose. There are all sorts of equivalence charts but as a rough rule of thumb think of 1mg of Suboxone being roughly equal to 25 mg of morphine. Then there's the added complication of Suboxone being a long half-life drug, which usually makes the withdrawal longer if not harder. I've never heard someone say they jumped from 2mg and it was a walk in the park. I was on it for 2 years. I tapered down to .
3160774 tn?1343705010 DOC=methadone, waited about 60 hours to induce 4mg. sub. 30min later I still felt some withdrawal and took another 4mg of sub. In another 30 min. I was feeling normal, better than normal on methadone. No more withdrawal. Methadone is a long acting opioid, so I reached about a 25 on the COWS scale, longer than necessary. I waited until I had every symptom before induction. I probably would have been fine at 48hrs, but was only going to do it once. Good luck.
1227909 tn?1267853479 suboxone and methadone are meant for short term use withdrawal side effects are gone within a month thats all the longer your body needs it zoe - yes treatment is possible at stage 4 - i heard now even with decompensated cirrhosis treatment is possible
Avatar f tn Hi. I know that some people take benzos for a few weeks to help with the anxiety and sleeplessness, but you can also become addicted to them too. Melatonin can help with sleep, L-Tyrosine (I think that is what its called) helps give energy. And red meat is to be avoided apparently because it causes pain receptors to go wacky.
Avatar f tn I would be reluctant to go off any opiate while on interferon therapy; the risk of depression from the interferon is quite high, and the opiate withdrawal could precipitate a very serious depression that requires stopping treatment for the hep C. There are a number of reasons people have trouble stopping Suboxone; the biggest reason is because it is hard to stop ANY opiate, including Suboxone.
Avatar f tn I immediately came clean with my obgyn and talked to a suboxone dr a week later. He gave me 3 options of methadone, subutex, or oxycodone. After doing research I believe subutex has the least withdrawals for the baby. I always thought the difference between subutex and suboxone was that you could take subutex sooner because of the lack of naloxone, but now I'm hearing you still have to be in withdrawal to take it. But you also can lose the baby if you go into withdrawal so now I am scared.
Avatar f tn m really starting to feel the early stages of the methadone withdrawal. I have an appointment with a suboxone counselor (@ a local hospital, using medical insurance/ not a clinic) tomorrow morning, although I won’t be able to see the doctor for the actually suboxone prescription until the following week. Therefore, I will at least be at Day 8, ((if Mon Dr. appt.
562575 tn?1217292335 I haven't taken suboxone..but I did go cold turkey off methadone..from what I have heard it can be almost as bad as methadone..and that was worse than bad.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is definitely better than Methadone and is easier to get off of just don't overdue your Suboxone doses.
1361759 tn?1280033031 From what I've read, you aren't supposed to change from methadone to suboxone if the methadone dose is any higher than 30 mg. I don't know how long the half-life of suboxone is other than it's REALLY long. I doubt it will be completely worn off in 24 hours. If you add more methadone to the mix, you stand to have precipitated withdrawal as a result. avisg is absolutely right. You're going to have to call the clinic and bust yourself for self-medicating with the suboxone.
Avatar m tn you have to be at this dose of methadone before you can even consider suboxone. i took my last dose of methadone late sunday afternoon, i waited almost 5 full days before my methadone withdrawals started, i took my first dose of sub on thursday late morning, i was immediately sent into precipitated withdrawals, which is like going cold turkey off methadone, but compressing it all into 1-2 days instead of the normal 3-6 weeks.
877402 tn?1241569071 It activates the same opioid receptors as narcotics, effectively eliminating withdrawal symptoms. Providing the correct dose of methadone prevents opioid withdrawal symptoms and eases drug craving but it does not provide the euphoria. The dose can be slowly tapered off, freeing the person from physical dependence without withdrawal symptoms. Methadone is the most effective known treatment for narcotic addiction.
