I have had Thyroid problems for nearly 30 years, and Fibro for about 23. Taking Cymbalta and Lyrica with a fairly mild muscle relaxer, and can mostly function. Can't say all is rosy, but at least I can do most of what I need to do for my day.

I have been taking 50 mg Lyrica for about 10 days. Started out with 1 per day and then 2 a day (last Friday). I am experiencing swelling in hands and feet. How do I take myself off this medication without having problems.
I am on Lyrica.. The side effects off the start weren't very much fun.. Extremely tired and very dizzy(light headed).. The side effects seem to come and go. Lyrica has helped me a bit so I figure take the good with the bad. My rheumatologist upped my dosage so I'm dealing with the wonderful effects again..I am also on Amitriptyline at bedtime.. It's too help me relax so I can sleep. I might as well be taking a flintstone vitamin because it doesn't work..
So when my new pain Dr. suggested lyrica I said let me think about it and I called Eli Lilly explaining my allergies and they said they wouldn't be any. I'm only on three Percocets day, I have no addiction, I despise them! But my second day on lyrica I was completely pain free, I thought it was a wonder drug, I took no Percocets that day. I thought oh my God my suffering is over.

Weaned off the Lyrica, finally, about middle of July and started on baclofen, August 1 for muscle spasms. What a wonderful difference! Baclofen even at 15 mg day has reduced the nerve pain to nothing and spasms are so very much better! I am so glad to be off the Lyrica. My legs don't swell in the afternoon anymore. :) Working my way up to 30 mg over time. Walked half mile 3 days in a row after sunset, with no residual pain.
The new Doctor has sent me to the Rheumatology (After a positive ANA test) and he to a Neurologist about the cramping and parthesia in hands and feet. My fatigue and soreness goes back along time before the thyroid at age of 28 not getting the fibromyalgia last December, and the parathesia went from being caused from spinal stenosis to idiopathic polyneuropathy last March.
Tried to wean off the Lyrica but probably did too fast so I picked back up to 3 - 25 mg a day and that does it. On less than 75 mg day the nerve pain and spine tingling was nearly unbearable. Added DLPA 500 mg twice a day and it helps a lot with the muscle pain and stiffness. Allowed me to get a lot of cleaning done with only a little extra soreness in my right shoulder from constantly wiping the wood work.
Rhuematologist gave medication LYRICA 75mg(2 times per day) but i have got only 25% relief.I have stopped LYRICA and Rhuematologist, suggested CYMBALTA.I have used CYMBALTA only for 4 days and 4 days i haven't sleep and stopped using CYMBALTA.Again continuing LYRICA twice a day (2X75mg). ALso i do physical exercize everyday. Dr Mark ,all my problems with thyroid or fabromyalgia ? Since last 5 months my TSH is 0.05. I need suggestion and help on my problems .
Told nurse I didn't see point in coming in since I have a follow up for the Lyrica on the 7th and I know doc will say there is nothing she can do for me. Called MDWise and Pete was disheartened that Hanus' office said they can't see me until I'm off MDWise and is going to call Patient Relations to see if they can "straighten this out" and get me into see Hanus.
I am going to ask my doc. Mon. for it and give it a try. I wonder if you can tapper off of Lyrica and take the Topamax at the same time. I have been on 150mg. of Lyrica for so long that I take it every 6-8 hrs. ..no joke, my pain is so intense. I can tolerate pain well, but this is ridiculous. I also just found out I have a Chiari Malformation and am sure a lot of my pain is from it. I wonder what you take for that...(heavy sigh...great more meds) I might have to have brain surgery.
I put in the search on this website for weightloss and sweating and hyperthryroid came up. And ALL of my maybe symptoms are in the Thyroid disease category. Getting concerned that I have another health issue...my poor husband, don't know if he could take another health issue with me.....

\ Anyway, I will let you know how the results come back and maybe we can share our thyroid stories along with our MS stories!!
Regarding your question, you really are not treating T3 and T4, you are treating symptoms, by adjusting the levels of free T3 and free T4 (FT3 and FT4). The thyroid glands produce mostly T4 hormone and some T3. Most of this is inactive because it is bound up with protein. Only the small portion that is unbound (free) is active to regulate metabolism and most other body functions. Think of T4 as a storage hormone that circulates through the body.
I just wanted to give a possible cause of your feet swelling -- it could be the Lyrica - that is listed as one of the side effects and I, also, had it when I was on the Lyrica (one of the reasons I had to stop taking it). Something you may want to ask either your doctor or pharmacist about. I hope you feel better real soon.
and sent me to a neurologist who took me seriously and I am still under his care. I am taking Levoxyl 1.125 (thyroid levels are supposedly normal with it) ... Lyrica, Soma and pain meds, but I don't like having to do that to function. Anyone who has had leg pain from thyroid removal and beat it... please tell me how you did it!!! Thanks again for the advice on the magnesium.
I had an ultrasound and both sides of my thyroid are slightly enlarged and I have a nodule with complex cystic and solid ethnogencity measuring 0.8 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm. I also had a baby 8 months ago. I feel like I'm falling apart ! I have so many different symptoms and I don't know if it's from my thyroid or something else!
Hello and sorry to hear all your problems but that is why I am doing this, I have all them problems to and my Endo. says it isn't my thyroid, I have had numerous test and MRI'S since December when this started, hang in there and any new news you get lets us all know.
Sore throat and ears full feeling, tongue sore at the back like someone pulled on it? Weird. Oh and then there is the brain fog and emotional crying alternating with anger......I had to ask myself what the heck is going on????? I decided today to take myself off this trial - its not worth it at all. Has anyone had similar experiences???? To all the Fibromates out there, never give up the fight.
Just to mention I am being treated for ADHD with Concerta and I have C.I.D.P. which I take Lyrica for the nerve biopsy that was done last summer. Thanks I feel lost in this waiting game.

I do not have any tender points and I took Lyrica for some time and it did nothing. I am currently taking Tramidol for the pain non stop and Soma at night for a muscle relaxer. It is just not doing the job. I dont know if the drugs are not working or if they are not strong enough. It varys so much that when I skip them for a day I notice no difference. I need help. I dont know if you can have FM with out the tender points and if it hurts your bones. And I dont know if I have a thyroid problem.
At least we seem to be moving in the right direction as far as that is concerned. She prescribed me 10 days worth of prednisone and some Lyrica for the fibromyalgia-like pain I've been experiencing. Part of me is overjoyed to finally possibly have some relief from this agonizing horrid pain, but another part of me is anxious and terrified that the meds will actually work....meaning that this could be something I have to deal with the rest of my life.
