Avatar n tn Panic attacks are sudden, discrete periods of intense anxiety, mounting physiological arousal, fear, stomach problems and discomfort that are associated with a variety of somatic and cognitive symptoms. Treatment includes anti anxiety medicines(available on prescription by a physician). Secondly,it can be GERD(gastroesophageal reflux disease).Try raising the head end of the bed by 2-3 blocks and take soft, bland diet for a few days. Also take your dinner 2 hrs prior to bedtime.
3166043 tn?1514260018 Can anxiety make you physically sick? I have a HUGE fear of vomiting. Whenever I get anxious I get a giant lump in my throat and it makes me gag and choke and sometimes dry heave. My bowels also get irritated. I get gas and I have discomfort and sometimes I have diahreaa. When this happens when I get anxious all I think about is throwing up and it makes me feel worse. I think about it and I close my eyes and picture myself being sick and then I feel worse.

Avatar n tn My 7 year old son, has a severe fear of choking and/or of being poisoned. He chews and spits out his food or is just too scared to eat it. Even at times, says he feels something in his throat. He has always had extreme fears. Fear of strangers. Needs me to check the door to make sure it is locked at night. Fear of the dark. I have older children and his fears seem far from normal. I am concerned that he is developing a major eating disorder because of his fears. Please advise.
Avatar f tn In july, I developed a sensation of almost choking in my throat, and in august I woke up from sleep gasping for air. This put me in panic mode and I started researching everything. I don't get headaches, but get a "brainfreeze" to the back of my head that lasts about 10 seconds a few times a day. This doesn't bother me because I've had it since I was 10. I saw dr. Oro in January and he did recommend surgery and thought it might help the neck pain and swallowing issues.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety but it is so bad I am afraid to eat anything other than soft food in fear of choking When I eat I always feel like somthing is stuck in the back or side of my throat and I try to cough it out, but nothing is there, I chug multiple waters trying to relieve the feeling but nothing works. I am on vacation and I never eat at dinner or breakfast, I order pasta or mashed potatoes and bring it back to the hotel and eat it.
Avatar m tn Chocking can cause a great deal of irritation to the tissue in the throat and the feeling of something still being stuck can be quite real. There is also the fear factor, which is very difficult to shake off. It's terrifying to choke, to not be able to get any air, to not be able to communicate, to feel the panic and look around and see people staring at you like you're some kind of weirdo before it sinks in there's something terribly wrong and they come to help.
Avatar f tn Being my first child and it being so early, im afraid of the possibility of the baby not making it. Im healthy and i had an ultrasound done and the baby is in perfect shape im just concerned. How do you all deal with worry?
Avatar m tn This issue with her not wanting to eat from fear of choking on her food or it getting into her wind pipe is VERY common for people with anxiety. I have this to. It's as if when our throats get tight from the anxiety it makes it difficult to swallow. I'm very sorry to here about her having to go through this. She is far from being the only one. I also go through this and have had food and pills get stuck in my throat making me panic wanting to call an ambulance.
Avatar n tn I am 40 years old and I am experiencing severe heckups and and I constantly awake choking on my saliva. I am currently taking Nexium once a day, so I don't suffer from heart burn at all, but I am not getting any sleep at night due to this choking sensation, it's like my throat is closing off. I have changed my diet and I do not eat past dinner time. I too have my bed elevated but I have to be in a sitting position to get any rest at all.
Avatar m tn My 5 year old daughter had a choking episode with a grape, almost a month ago. She was very scared and she stopped eating fruits. Gradually, she eliminated more and more foods, until this point that she is only drinking Pediasure, milk and drinkable yogurt. The pediatrician advised us do not make a big deal about it, and she will gradually get better. It's already a month and the situation is just getting worse. She is now loosing weight and get stomach cramps.
Avatar f tn m new to the forums but just wanting to know if anyone experiences anxiety from struggling to swallow and have a fear of choking. I first started to realise I had anxiety whilst eating when I was about 14, I am now 24. It comes and goes, but in the last year and half I've noticed it a lot more. I really struggle to swallow and panic when I can't get my food down the first try. When that happens I'll leave my meal.
Avatar f tn I have lived with difficulties with choking and fear of choking, rapid heart rate intermittantly and fear of it. One fine day while my husband and children were at the lake on a 100 degree outing, I overheated and had a heat stroke. I was rushed to the ER and Have had Panic attacks ever since. My extreme fear of choking while alone has created a problem, I can no longer stay alone in peace.
Avatar m tn Cause of such panic disorder mostly remain unknown but in this disorder you may feel symptoms like dream disorder, shortness of breath, feeling of choking, pain in the chest, nausea, stomach ache, feeling dizzy, tingling or numbness, chills /hot flashes, bounding heartbeat or fast heart rate, sweating, shaking etc. even without any underlying disorder. This disorder needs to be thoroughly assessed by a psychiatrist first since this can occur repeatedly and without warning.
