1804812 tn?1329677557 Boy, can I relate!! MANY of us can! This goes hand in hand with panic. " I am known as the "back roads" queen because I can get to just about anywhere on small streets and county roads. I always feel like I need to have a place I can pull over". Me too! LOL. I HATE highways. I explored this fear with my therapist years ago, and she explained to me that the fear stems from our basic fear of becoming "trapped" somewhere, with no option of "escape".
Avatar m tn now i could not take the vehicle in the middle of the road..i try to avoid and automatically i drive on left side of the road instead of straight...so i loose balance..i am sittiting also slightly towards left...this problem is giving me sleepless night...please advise me..........
Avatar n tn I highly recommend the follwing resources to help you over-come this fear of driving. In my opinion they are priceless and well worth the money. If you can afford them, I would order them today so you can get your recovery on the road. They have been instrumental in my recovery and I actually keep them in the car with me, just in case. 1) The Driving Fear Program - www.drivingfear.
Avatar n tn I am fine with the straight parts of the road. Its worse when the curve is bent towards the middle of the road ( where I have only the dividing line separating lanes). I told my Dr. and now on way to see a psychologist (therapy) as recommended. Anyone with similar experience? Has anything helped?
Avatar m tn Some people with panic and anxiety disorder have a fear of driving on highways. It is more common than you would think. Do you notice any significant amount of anxiety off the road, or is it only when you are driving? I would see your doctor.
584903 tn?1233831386 For reference I did not have any of these problems as an young man under 30, it all started when I was about 30, I still remember the surprise episode that I associate as my first panic when driving. I think my fear of flying happened around the time I earned my first electrical engineering degree (with high grades) and I realized engineers (and pilots) didn't in fact know everything.
3997096 tn?1349317861 Kinda caused me to have a fear of driving. Pretty weird. I still have a slight fear of driving. I live fairly close to Chicago and have never had a fear of driving through there as many people do who don't live there, but haven't been able to do it since eot. Hopefully one day I will get over this fear.
Avatar f tn need I say more? The fear of being stuck in traffic and suddenly needing to go is a real fear based on a real problem. Generally I prepare for trips, and if shopping, make it a focused shop. No more aimless driving. I have to have a plan and stick to it. Same in stores: meandering around in a hugh store is sure to bring on panic. So again I now plan and stick to it. One department for shoes. No checking out several stores or departments.
1154065 tn?1262184706 The most potent of my anxiety triggers is certainly being in a car, most often that is not being driven by myself. Meaning I just stepped out of a car with a friend of mine who drives a little wild and the entire 25 minute ride home, I was convinced I was dying, up until I type this post.
Avatar m tn ve been tested anywhere between 12-15 times, with most the cases having ranged anywhere between incredible low risk to no risk at all. Nonetheless my insurmountable fear of HIV has constantly pushed me into a whirlwind of panic and disarray. This recent incident is likely no exception. Back in June a few of my buddies in myself decided to take a trip out of town for the weekend. During that time they decided to treat me to my first ever experience at a massage parlor.
Avatar n tn I think I have an irrational fear of rabies and something happened that put my fear into the stratosphere. My wife and I live in a "rabies free" country (Okinawa, Japan) however I have discovered that this does not include the huge number of bats that live here. We were driving down a back alley jungle road yesterday when I noticed there was a dead bat covered with flies on our side of the road.
1785438 tn?1314987935 Hi. Unfortunately this all evolves around your anxiety and you're developing Agoraphobia which will hold you prisoner in your home (safe place). Driving is a big trigger for many with panic attacks it goes along with Agoraphobia, fear of open places and fear you'll have a panic attack, the feeling of being "trapped" wherever you are.
Avatar f tn Today my nine year old and I was driving, some maniac tried to ram us off the road many times, he pulled up behind me and was on my tail then got up on my side and was jerking like he was going to hit us. This lasted for about 5 min. He ran us off the road and I had to floor it to get away. Since this happend I have been scared, emotional and having anxiety. Baby is moving normal. We took my blood ppressure and heart rate is normal.
Avatar f tn t you get a dashboard camera (you could probably use your smartphone if it has enough memory). Record yourself driving. When you feel this fear, check the video and you will see that you have not hot anyone. At first, try driving for a short distance and then check the video. Then try driving a longer distance. You will be doing some self-exposure therapy and will have solid evidence that nothing bad has happened. Hang in there!
637722 tn?1245086059 I can drive in most situations now but it seems, as I get older the fear of winter driving gets worse. I know why I feel the way I do; it is the fear of ‘being out of control’. When I know there is something between my tires and the road that can cause me to slide I get the ‘panicky’ feeling. I have been in counseling for depression (because my son was addicted to heroin) and the subject of driving in the snow/ice was addressed but not to the point that I am over it.
Avatar f tn Hey guys I have had seizures for about a year now. I have only had about 3 so far but I did have my license taken away and I have been seizure free for over 3 1/2 months now and I'm soon to get my license back in a few months, I'm happy they did take it away because I did not feel right or safe to drive with only having 3 full blown out episodes in a year.
198506 tn?1251156915 I've never done the driving on a road trip, but I have been on many long road trips with my family. I'd recommend ordering Triple-A Triptik's in advance.
1074864 tn?1256932915 You are not actually fearful of driving or travelling itself, but rather the fear of losing control if you have another panic attack. This is because when we have a panic attack, the first thing we want to do is to retreat to our "safe place", which for most people is our home. The further away from our comfort zone, the more uncomfortable we feel.
Avatar f tn It not just driving any more it's being alone, always need someone to be with me...Feeling sad for no reason..heart racing, pain in left arm and shoulders tension and the list goes on..just want to feel better!!
3176864 tn?1391555073 Fear in and of itself is one of the reasons I self medicated for so damn long. Fear of WD, Fear of being sober, Fear of dealing with problems sober, Fear of never being able to be high from a substance again, Fear of the addict label. The list goes on.
Avatar m tn t have an accident, i feel confidence in my driving skills. maybe for someone who has no fear of diseases, its the same way. maybe they get a wave of fear, and then get over it. maybe we should try to rationalize our fears & doubts, instead of trying to run away from situations that cause anxiety, try to face them and deal with them. and trust in god in every situation.
Avatar m tn I'm just curious how many drive with CM? Or how many retain driving privledges even though perhaps they don't use them often due to not feeling safe to drive. Personally, even though I feel much better than pre-op there are many times I refuse to drive... probably 80-85% of the time. Curiosity due to finding this URL gov.
Avatar n tn My own sister developed a fear of driving on highways when she was much younger. Just as you said, she too can drive perfectly fine on other roads but not the main highways. I myself have never had a problem driving on any road or highway yet I cannot get on an airplane. My sister has no problem going on an airplane. Thats how are minds are, we develop fears that will be hard to break unless we face them head-on. So yours is more common than you might think.
Avatar f tn m sorry you feel this way and have such great fear of snow. While it is reasonable to have fear of driving in snow---- perhaps you are talking about the level of your reaction? I know that I too do not like driving in snow. I live in an area where there is often ice beneath it and have had a few bad driving experiences. So . .. I get my groceries (like EVERYONE else, wow, our grocery is packed if there is bad weather in the forecast . . .
