Avatar f tn t try to get the animal vaccinated for rabies until they have tested the cat throughly for Leptospirosis if you suspect he got it from the cat. It is easy to get from the cat. I do hope that your father is better or being tested for leptospirosis and if he is weak then he may need antibiotics. They can test his blood and do a complete blood count to see how he is doing. Does he still have a fever? How about you do you have a fever still?
Avatar f tn Fortunately, many common antibiotics will kill leptospira. Antibiotic resistance is not a problem in leptospirosis so ordinary penicillin, tetracycline and erythromycin all work well. Doxycycline is probably the best since it seems most effective in preventing dogs from becoming silent carriers of the disease organism in their kidneys after recovery. Continuing with fluids and supportive care is essential.
Avatar n tn leptospirosis and performing blood cultures for fungal and bacterial infectious diseases? Have they performed biopsies of the enlarged lymph nodes, and skin lesions? If not, it may be a good idea to consider some of these tests and others if deemed helpful. Most of the tick borne diseases do respond to doxycycline, but Babesia does not respond to doxycycline and must be treated with medications that your dog has not been treated with yet including clindamycin with metronidazole, and others.
Avatar m tn hi I had a posible hiv exposure 8 -10 weeks ago and was wondering if the hep b vaccine and leptospirosis and the follow up antibootics for the desease could delay my seroconversion time. Avatar f tn My dog came down with signs of fever and lethargy about a week ago. We took her to the vet and went through the suggested series of tests to diagnose the underlying cause, but all of her tests have come back negative. I'm desperate to figure out what is making her sick! A little recent history: She had a tick on her neck late this past summer, but the tick itself was tested for Lyme and came back negative.
Avatar n tn Find out if the vaccine given your sisters dog contained Leptospirosis, since this is the most common vaccine reaction culprit. You can request a distemper combination vaccine without Leptospirosis.
390388 tn?1279636213 The vet on June 30th put gave him fluids and put him on Flagyl 500 mg. BID X 7 days for colitis (inflamed intestines) and prilosec for one month because he has always eats grass, all the time since a pup. While he was on Flagyl we gave him plain white rice and ground venison w/o fat in it. Now his bowels are soft but ok. His appetite is back and he no longer is allowed anything other than his large breed Eukanuba food (2 cups 3 X/day) and Euk lg.
Avatar f tn So we agreed to at least treat her with a penicillin antibiotic and doxycycline for 2 days and see what happens. Well yesterday they called me with her labs and what an amazing God Sent it was her creatinine was down to 2.8 and her BUN is down to 35!! So this brings me to my questions. Do y'all think we've found the true cause of her kidney failure this time? How do I keep her from relapsing when she gets back home?
20806899 tn?1516242695 She was admitted and started on IVF immediately. The cause was initially determined to be a positive for leptospirosis (very common in the area we have just moved to, but not at all present where we lived before). A few days later, they also had a positive test result for Lyme disease. The internist suspects that the leptospirosis was the main cause of the kidney dysfunction, which would have a better prognosis than if the Lyme disease had caused it. Lucy is incredibly important to us.

Avatar f tn There is no reason you can't give your puppy shots yourself as long as you know how to do it. If you give them incorrectly you can cause the puppy unnecessary pain, so if you are unsure, let the vet do it instead even though it will cost you money for the visit. The only vaccine you cannot purchase to give on your own is the rabies vaccine, and most municipalities require that every dog over the age of 6 months be vaccinated for rabies.
Avatar f tn Ive been on doxycycline for 3 1/2 days, and the discharge has not gone away at all.. may have even worsened. My vagina hurts excruciatingly every time I pee. How long till the pain and discharge goes away?
Avatar f tn My almost 14 year old Westie was diagnosed with kidney disease in October of 2014. After being treated for a UTI and leptospirosis her numbers dropped into the normal range in late December. However numbers in February were elevated again so I have done a diet change and will be getting more blood work done in the next few weeks so can post all the numbers at that time.
Avatar n tn The vet prescribed doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for 3 weeks. My dog seems fine without any obvious symptoms. Can we just give him the doxycycline 100mg once a day instead because the medication may cause nausea/vomiting. Also after 3 weeks medication, how do you he is treated ? Any advice !
Avatar f tn Just wondering if doxycycline worked for you. I am on doxy 100mg twice a day for 14 days. Still haven’t seen and marked improvement in my rash.
Avatar f tn I do seem to get a mild reaction when I treat for Leptospirosis. I am wondering what other specific infections I could rife for. Can you tell from the symptom picture? My biggest complaint is the partial paralysis on my left side, including a droopy lip. My left foot turns outward tripping me and I have difficulty lifting it when walking. My left hand is also very weak and I cannot raise that arm past shoulder level. My feet and lower left leg haven't got much feeling and the soles are red.
