764218 tn?1234569759 I'm 20 year old girl, weigh 132 pounds, and i'm 5'6. I exercise (cardio and lifting light weights) about 2-4 times a week, depending on my schedule. I want to weigh 125 pounds and have been thinking about taking diet pills to help because I can't seem to lose more weight. Is it a safe idea? I've heard rumors of girls my age taking diet pills, and later on in life are overweight and can't lose the weight because they ruined their metabolism. Is this true?
Avatar f tn Yes, Alli does work and it's approved by the FDA; and if you follow the protocol, it does teach you to eat healthier. The problem with Alli is that if you don't follow the program properly, there are some unpleasant "side effects", so if you decide to try that make sure you read up on it and know what you are getting into before you start.
Avatar n tn Looks like the medication mentioned is not FDA approved. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) the controlling authority for all medications. If you see all the OTC's and some herbal medications will not have their approval. This is important because, it means that no scientific studies have been conducted for these medications hence interaction with other medications or their side effects would not have been studied, so it is difficult to comment on their side effects.
Avatar n tn Hello... First of all, these supplements shouldn't be taken by people under the age of 18. I am not a big fan of "diet pills" and while the company who manufactures these can say just about anything they want...Unless they have been approved by the FDA, I wouldn't suggest taking them. Lastly, with a known V-Tach arrhythmia, any type of "diet pill" is a NO,NO! Please consider the pros and cons if you choose to take these.
Avatar f tn I just checked online on the FDA government website and prometrium IS FDA approved.
1783159 tn?1450763556 I have a friend whose using the Alli pills which are the only FDA approved diet pills. I know you mentioned ways to loose weight without taking pills but I definitely wanted to mention those because she's had great success on them. Also just cut back on calories and watch what you eat. Drink mainly water and try to exercise when you can. Mainly though it's what you put in your body in my opinion. Good luck!
Avatar m tn S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved OLYSIO™ (simeprevir), an NS3/4A protease inhibitor, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection as part of an antiviral treatment regimen in combination with pegylated interferon and ribavirin in genotype 1 infected adults with compensated liver disease, including cirrhosis. OLYSIO™ may benefit patients with chronic hepatitis C, including those who are treatment naive or who have failed prior interferon-based therapy.
Avatar f tn So, do you guys think I still have a problem with pills, even though I quit diet pills? Does taking a bunch of different pills at the same time--even though they are herbal--make me a pill-popper? Does it sound like I need rehab?
Avatar f tn You are right Merri..guard up. Zohydro ER was approved by the FDA in the fall and is expected to launch this March...(extended release). I know I was really wordy, but am passionate about chronic pain management. I agree that is important for us to be aware that it is out there...when we see or hear the name, we addicts know exactly what is in front of us. Thank you for the reminder!
Avatar f tn According to the FDA, the last agent it approved to treat chronic hepatitis C was the interferon Pegasys, from Roche Holding AG's Genentech.
714220 tn?1230600824 I think if anyone is going to be taking a diet supplement, that they should take Alli...afterall it is the ONLY FDA approved drug. The Kmart here where I live has a sale going... double pack for $50. I am debating buying some, as I have a tight budget. I know it works though...ack! Decisions, decisions. I guess I could go the good ol' fashioned American way..."CHARGE IT!
Avatar f tn to pay for it? i was told that would never happen because it was not fda approved. tell me your secret, because i have been considering it as well...
Avatar f tn is it bad to be taking microlite birth control and adios diet pills? please help!!
Avatar n tn Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban further sale of the diet drug. 34 deaths have been disclosed of Meridia patients but states it sees no pattern to the deaths or connection to Meridia. 16 deaths resulted from cardiovascular problems Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant. Both of these drugs are contraindicated...a definite no-no, for people with cardiac related problems. It would be negligable for an MD to give these drugs concurrently.
Avatar n tn They do not appear to be FDA approved. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) the controlling authority for all medications. If you see all the OTC's and some herbal medications will not have their approval. Avatar n tn ALL ELISA tests are FDA approved. All tests marketed in the US are FDA approved. All tests are 3 month tests to obtain a conclusive negative test result. Now move on.
Avatar m tn Ooh stay away from those, they can induce serious anxiety and hypomania. If you mean "diet pills" What they are supposed to do is up your metabolism, but there is no actually proof that they do that, except for folks who have less then 20lbs.I see all those commercials with "special" herbs or supplements. I actually called on company and they refused to tell me exactly what was in it. Like herbs they are not FDA approved.
Avatar n tn t have insurance to go talk to a doctor. has anyone tried this way also. i refuse to do diet pills because they don't work. Or if you have any other ideas?
Avatar f tn All prenatals are basically the same.
Avatar n tn I would advise against advertised natural products, as their health benefits are not approved by FDA and other such agencies. A nutrition expert can help devise a diet plan that can lower your bad cholesterol, and help increase good cholesterol. Take care!
667078 tn?1316000935 There were only 137 in the study so I am a real guinea pig. I was supposed to go on the study but the FDA just approved it.I am strangely optimistic. I hope what I do now might help cancer patients later. I hope in a few years every cancer will have PARP inhibitors to go directly to the cancer instead of chemo therapy that kill good and bad cells. I am feeling happy these days. I had to have two pints of blood yesterday from my last chemo agent.
3219519 tn?1345993889 To be very honest, Topamax or topimerate was approved by FDA as an anti-epilepsy drug. It has not been approved for weight loss. Weight loss is a serious side effect of this drug, and hence is often being used off label to help people lose weight.
739988 tn?1386672969 Remember technically a doctor can prescribe any medication for other purposes but usually a trained psychopharmocologist would be the one to know about FDA approved medications in use experimentally for other purposes. Your doctor could prescribe it for anti-cholesterol use of course. Its hard to get covered as an off label medication so it would be best if prescribed by your doctor for anti-cholesterol purposes and then followed up by your psychiatrist: http://www.dshs.state.tx.
