I have or had a bacterial infection in my stomach (gastritus) according to my endoscopy recently taken, along with a couple of small ulcers " My Dr prescribed 500 ml of flagyl and 500 ml of biaxin to be taken twice daily for 14 days I did not complete the treatment " the side effects were to extreme I did it for 11 days ..and stopped ...My question 'was " were those side effects common? Your answer is gratly appreciated.

Give it about a 7-10 days for the side effects to wear off. If you experience more side effects, especially life threatning, you will need to seek medical attention asap. Remember, always read about a medication prior to taking it or ask your physician and/or the pharmacy about the medication.

I was on it for a year with no side effects at all.

Jails, institutions or death are the most common long term side effects I have seen, or the person quits and has a program of recovery. Why do you ask?

hi folks-just looking around for info re long term side effects of treatment and came across you lot ranting away on your keyboards! I successfully completed 6months tx in april 2007 and am now unable to do very much due to the fatigue,pain and confusion I've suffered since. Just wanted to be added to the list of damaged souls. Have lost a lot of friends to this horrible disease so am very glad to have cleared it but at what cost?

I am reading there are long term side effects with treatment, I am getting the heebie jeebies I have been positive till now but need to know if this is true.

I haven't taken either of the above, but I know that warnings of permanent side effects from antibiotics and parasitic medications aren't always made well known, so I thought the post was extremely helpful to any of those suggested to take these meds. I ended up not needing the antibiotic challenge as I was Igenex positive on my western blot. You could always call IGeneX and ask what they recommend for an antibiotic challenge. They're willing to talk to folks with questions. I started with Azithromycin, and then a week later on Rifampin for Bartonella. At six weeks, I stopped the azithromycin and started Bicillin shots. I needed either Bicilin shots or Rocephin thanks to my late stage neuro symptoms.

She began having serious side effects. I started reading on the internet about long term effects. Now she has nearly all the side effects to greater or lesser degrees. The worst is falling. She's fallen 4 times in the last week and is covered with bruises, new and old. She is now taking 14mg per day and can't stop. She has been in two different detox facilities but as soon as she gets out, she starts taking it again. She is basically an invalid.

Does anyone know of long-term side-effects of Avonex? I've had about 8 or 9 injections so far - was diagnosed a few mos. ago. I will see the (MS) dr. in 2 days, a 3 month follow-up visit. Does anyone know of any questions I should ask her? Thank you very much! I appreciate any feedback.

How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.

I couldn't say if I am "as bad off" as you were or not. What I can say is that for me when I herx on abx I expect certain symptoms to get overwhelmingly worse. That I will and have pushed through to get better. However adding a series of very unfortunate new side effects on top of how "bad" I already feel seems nonsensical when the abx that is causing these new symptoms has a family of other abx that I could try instead (with hopefully less horrific side effects).
