I have or had a bacterial infection in my stomach (gastritus) according to my endoscopy recently taken, along with a couple of small ulcers " My Dr prescribed 500 ml of flagyl and 500 ml of biaxin to be taken twice daily for 14 days I did not complete the treatment " the side effects were to extreme I did it for 11 days ..and stopped ...My question 'was " were those side effects common? Your answer is gratly appreciated.

Give it about a 7-10 days for the side effects to wear off. If you experience more side effects, especially life threatning, you will need to seek medical attention asap. Remember, always read about a medication prior to taking it or ask your physician and/or the pharmacy about the medication.

I couldn't say if I am "as bad off" as you were or not. What I can say is that for me when I herx on abx I expect certain symptoms to get overwhelmingly worse. That I will and have pushed through to get better. However adding a series of very unfortunate new side effects on top of how "bad" I already feel seems nonsensical when the abx that is causing these new symptoms has a family of other abx that I could try instead (with hopefully less horrific side effects).

Medications come with side effects, especially at the higher doses as we are sometimes prescribed for Lyme. Does not always mean you are having a herx!!!

Depending on the dose/strength its duration is 12-24 hours... its Pregnancy category is C which means "animal studies have shown an adverse effect and there are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant woman OR No animal studies have been conducted and there are no adequate or well known studies in pregnant woman"... so pretty much the effects really are not known or there have been effects shown but not much has been looked into it...

Some normal side effects might be some nausea or diarrhea or headache. But if your heart rate is affected, you should call your doctor. They can prescribe a different medication for you. Glad to hear your fever is gone. Stay well.

I have a question about antibiotics. Since 2001, I have what I thought was an allergy to Cipro. Took it for an upper respitory infection for 3 days and had terrible problems. The Dr then gave me Levaquin, took for 7 days, with the same side effects.

I could be looking at rare side effects, and wala.. I get more of the rare side effects than the common ones, I think... I don't like to pester the doctor all of the time, especially with these "rare" side effects.. I don't mind dealing with side effects as long as they are not permanent! There are some medications that can cause permanent damage, to the eye for example..

I was given Plaquenil. And of course, I always research any medication before I take it. I seen all of the visual warnings of it possibly causing irreversible eye damage. I wasn't too concerned until I seen that someone had to sign a waiver acknowledging these side effects. I didn't have to sign a waiver, nor was I warned of these possible side effects. My doc perscribed Biaxin xl 2x 500 and prednisone 50mg 4 days if needed. Last night I was so bad I took the pred at 8pm. This morning I took the biaxin at 6am. It's been about 8 hours and my heart has sped up from about 70 to 85-90 for about an hour and won't come down. I'm afraid to take my next dose of prednisone but I've been on short bursts before with no issue. Is a resting heart rate around 90 something to be worried about?

I was so glad to stop, as the chronic bitter taste in my mouth and the dark tongue went away. Well, now that I have cycled back on, both side effects are back. Yuck.

does keep me away from any of those that are known to have those side effects, so it must be the formula in how the drug is made.

d a short term course of of an anti-anxiety med, like Xanax or Ativan, to help with the side effects. That may make a world of difference for you. Definitely don't just stop taking the Lexapro without first discussing all of this with your doctor. You both may decide that the side effects are just too much, or your starting dose may have been a little on the high side. A typical starting dose would be 10mg, for some people sensitive to meds, they can even start out at 5mg.

Benzos like this can cause withdrawals when they are stopped suddenly. How often do you take it on an 'as needed' basis? Have you talked with your prescribing doctor about potential side effects? The good thing is you got checked out and you are ok medically. When I came off of certain benzos I had to come off of them very slowly to reduce side effects. Also, could you be under some more stress these past couple of months?

I woke up this morning worried about side effects and felt like my heart was racing and going to beat out of my chest. I took 2 xanax (which I've been taking for years) and feel like I'm calming down, but I'm worried this racing heart is a side effect or if it's just my anxiety of taking the new medication. Hi there! Well, I've been on Effexor for over ten years. Started at a very low dose and I am at 150 mg for a long time now. So, I can't say if I remember all the side effects I had. But I will say that I definitely got sick to my stomach if I didn't eat immediately before taking it. This went away after a week or so as my body adjusted to the medication. I believe that the jitters and anxious feeling is all part of your anxiety.

But it is more stimulating, so if the increased anxiety continues it might not be the drug for you. Sometimes side effects that occur when you start a drug stop after awhile, sometimes they never do. Since it takes about a month or 6 weeks for most people to have beneficial effects kick in, the side effects start well before the desired ones.
