Avatar f tn I have or had a bacterial infection in my stomach (gastritus) according to my endoscopy recently taken, along with a couple of small ulcers " My Dr prescribed 500 ml of flagyl and 500 ml of biaxin to be taken twice daily for 14 days I did not complete the treatment " the side effects were to extreme I did it for 11 days ..and stopped ...My question 'was " were those side effects common? Your answer is gratly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Give it about a 7-10 days for the side effects to wear off. If you experience more side effects, especially life threatning, you will need to seek medical attention asap. Remember, always read about a medication prior to taking it or ask your physician and/or the pharmacy about the medication.
Avatar f tn I was on it for a year with no side effects at all.
4939681 tn?1361299299 I share my story so that if you get another ancillary infection, you might look into an herbal to treat it instead of adding in another abx with side effects. Although, in the case of a recent UTI, I did take Rx, so an herbal isn't always a good alternative. Also, I'm guessing your doc gave you Nystatin in case of Candida. (Statins are taken for cholesterol and not a good idea for a woman with Lyme, et.al., according to one of my neurologists.
Avatar f tn Medications come with side effects, especially at the higher doses as we are sometimes prescribed for Lyme. Does not always mean you are having a herx!!!
Avatar n tn Hi. I am currently taking biaxin because I have pleurisy. My question is how long does the biaxin stay in your system after you're finished taking it? Is it safe to get pregnant after taking it?
Avatar f tn I do not have a lyme dx but I am working with my neurologist on it...I am also looking for an LLMD in my area. I am sure that I will have no trouble finding one near Philadelphia. I have a question about antibiotics. Since 2001, I have what I thought was an allergy to Cipro. Took it for an upper respitory infection for 3 days and had terrible problems. The Dr then gave me Levaquin, took for 7 days, with the same side effects.
4451049 tn?1387153437 I could be looking at rare side effects, and wala.. I get more of the rare side effects than the common ones, I think... I don't like to pester the doctor all of the time, especially with these "rare" side effects.. I don't mind dealing with side effects as long as they are not permanent! There are some medications that can cause permanent damage, to the eye for example..
4451049 tn?1387153437 Do you see an ophthalomologist (an MD who specializes in eyes)? If you are seeing an optician (not likely that you are, they are only supposed to fit you for glasses and are not MDs) or an optometrist (an eye specialist but not an MD), then I would definitely see an ophthalomologist. Oddly enough, of all the MDs I saw when I had Lyme, the ophthalmologist was the doc (other than my Lyme doc) who took Lyme very very seriously.
Avatar f tn There is always a risk for side effects, interactions or allergic reactions, so please make sure both meds are suitable for you by asking a physician.
4939681 tn?1361299299 You're welcome! I haven't taken either of the above, but I know that warnings of permanent side effects from antibiotics and parasitic medications aren't always made well known, so I thought the post was extremely helpful to any of those suggested to take these meds. I, myself, have been experiencing horrible muscle spasms since my 2 day stint with Biaxin.
Avatar f tn Since I have gone back on Biaxin and Tindamax in the last week, I seem to hit a wall around 3pm and I can't keep my eyes open. I have taken an afternoon nap about 4 days out of 7. I am a terrible napper and rarely ever nap, even when I was at my sickest with Lyme. I guess it could be herxing from the meds, but I haven't had this in the past. I am wondering if these two drugs are particularly targeting cysts and spiros in my brain.
Avatar n tn your penis -- which you would not have missed). But in any case, if you caught it the clarithromycin (Biaxin) and amoxicillin would have cured it. 2) No. Chlamdyia was no risk at all (it isn't acquired by oral sex and the vaginal was protected) and gonorrhea, which can be acquired by oral sex, almost always causes symptoms and in any case would have been cured by the antibiotics you have taken. You didn't catch anything.
Avatar f tn does keep me away from any of those that are known to have those side effects, so it must be the formula in how the drug is made.
Avatar n tn Celexa is a more preferred drug for OCD at a low dose for children. This drug seems to work the best with the fewest side effects. If you don't mind what type of OCD subject is it?
Avatar m tn t see the urination/constipation problem on the warnings/ side effects/ overdose section of the Benadryl box. Thanks so much for the insight it's really helped. I'll keep you posted.
Avatar m tn m not sure if Zofran is used in children but you could ask. Tetrabenzene is used but that has some serious side effects so that might not be for children either. But there are other medications as well. Clonidine in patch form (Catapres) is especially helpful for tic like motions (tardive tourreticism which is a variant of tardive dyskinesia I have as well). I am on Tenex which is helpful as well. I believe both of those are used in children.
Avatar m tn I just want to avoid the possibility of C.Diff. or any other problems pertaining to side effects of the antibiotics.
454366 tn?1211245301 Litium did give me a hyperactive thyroid condition. The med I was given for that has a side effect of osteoporosis in the lumbar in long term use (Synthroid). I ended up with litium toxicity a few years back because diuretics will cause that. As you know caffine is a diuretic (soft drinks) - which most kiddo's I know tend to drink. I would not allow litium to be given to my child; not going through what I have with it. I have a son who is ADHD.
Avatar n tn My son just called and asked if I could drive him and some friends to the ice skating rink and I sadly had to tell him to ask dad. I heard a bit of sadness in his voice (he is 11) since he and my other children know that mom is always the one to go to for things.Thankfully my husband agreed to drive them but I feel guilty because I know hubby is not going to pick up the slack when it comes to the kids and I am sure that they know this too.
