Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed May 30th 2010. Endo doc said, parathyroid are not working. I am on 127mg Synthroid 5 2" and 126. This endo will not consider any thing but Synthroid when I asked about Armor. I am tired and feel wired up have no energy and hard time sleeping. 6-8 lbs weight gain since may, hair falling out, Do not eat any more than I did before. Also gave me 75 calcitrol -3000 calcium,1200 magnesium. I suspect my adrenal glands are overworked Test are as follows: T3 113.
Avatar n tn Before that, she had been on 2 grains of Armour, but forced to switch due to reformulation of Armour brand and sudden hypo symptoms with a drop in t4 that Armour reformulation caused her. Before going with dessicated thyroid 8 months ago however ,she was on 100mcg Synthroid daily.
Avatar f tn You could try Armour Thyroid, or as an option, just go to a T4 and T3 generic, at the same amounts, or close, to what you were previously getting in your NP Thyroid.
Avatar n tn s Spring 2009 Reformulation Causing Problems Some thyroid patients are still not aware that during the spring of 2009, the natural desiccated thyroid drug, Armour Thyroid apparently underwent a reformulation. This resulted in a decrease in the amount of dextrose, an increase in the cellulose, and the addition of cornstarch to the tablets.
Avatar f tn The lower my TSH is, the better I feel. Since the reformulation of armour, it is horse crap. It actually makes you feel worse. Synthroid was an absolutely NO, NO. Made me feel like I was dying or wanted to die. I am now on NT. First year TT anniversary is this month. I am still searching for my sweet spot. If I were in your shoes, I would increase by 1/2 grain Acella, stay on it for a week. If you do not feel better, I would increase another 1/2 grain.
776302 tn?1241091853 I had to get off Armour thyroid extract because they are not making it anymore. On levothyroxin and hope it is helping me. Have to get tested next week. Hope I can take 100mcgs without any side effects to affect my heart.
734073 tn?1278896325 Switched from a life time of Synthroid to Armour 5 months ago. I did not know of the reformulation problems until after we made the change. She was doing well until this last medication refill, about a month ago. We must have finally gotten a refill of the new Armour formula, because soon (within a week) after taking the refill, she began having severe joint aches(ankles, knees ,wrist and fingers). She has had musle cramps from time to time, but has never had joint pain before now.
1401696 tn?1280838616 I hate to tell you this but Naturethroid went to a different process too - similiar to the Armour thyroid change. In fact, almost identical. The filler by-component MCC is what's making people less responsive to the NT hormones for hypothyroidism In the beginning you may find increased wellness but could crash again down the road. If all else fails and this happens. You do have choices besides Canadian thyroid.
Avatar n tn I am one of those (rare?) people who do well on Armour thyroid. In many forums, people complain about it being useless since the reformulation and switch to Erfa. However, I briefly tried Erfa as well and did not like it; it tended to make me hyper and I had to multi-dose it, whereas Armour can be taken once in the morning without problems.
Avatar f tn I went to the pharmacy to pick up my Armour and was quite surprised to hear that there is a national shortage and that natural desicrated thyriod may be pulled off the market. I was only able to get 4 tabs. The last they had and they aren't aware of any other pharmacies that have any left. Over the years I've tried various forms of thyroid replacement and have suffered too many problems to count.
Avatar f tn I am 20 weeks pregnant and currently taking 1 grain of armour thyroid (which I have been on for over 20+ years and have done well on - I had a short spell on levo and had terrible hypo symptoms). I had a thyroid panel at around 6 weeks and test results were all normal. I went back in for another test since I've been feeling tired and getting headaches (similar to when hypo) and concerned over the recent reformulation of armour. My TSH came back as 1.31 up from 0.60 at the 6 week test.
Avatar f tn I have not been doing well on T3 (my Reverse T3 is very minimal though now so that is good) and did great on Armour before the 09 reformulation. I did ok on NatureThroid until it was reformulated too. I tried ERFA and did ok but still not great. Old dr. found high RT3 and I went on Cytomel to reduce it but I seem to go hyper very very easily now on it. So confused! New Dr.
Avatar f tn Armour has a lot of T3 in it as well compared to the human thyroid. Maybe because of the fillers and what not in the manufacture of Armour it could cause a slower absorption rate. So you didn't get this same "rush" that you may be "craving". You have to ask yourself what your final result you're looking for. Do you want to feel well physically, which is the blood labs and lack of symptoms of being either hypo nor hyper.
1296717 tn?1272719314 Erfa Thyroid is from Canada and is said to be similar to old (before reformulation) Armour. Many seem to do well on it and no reports of formula change. If you are doing well on the compounded, then why switch and have to deal with all these changes and supply issues or the time/hassle of having to get it from out of the country (and who know's how long our gov. will continue to allow this anyway?) Hope I've helped you out some here with all this.
1401696 tn?1280838616 I am just not a big fan of what they did to the Armour thyroid medication and really in the research area of adding the MCC that they did ( which is what T4 Synthroid is compiled with too) I feel that filler is the problem for many and labs can falsely read things that truely are not right.
Avatar f tn I'm 60 and had my right thyroid removed 13 years ago. Will it EVER be possible to get off thyroid meds? Curerntly take Armour 45 mg. I've had insomnia and neck problems for over 12 years and wonder if there is a medication connection. (I previously took Synthroid 125 mg with same symtoms.
Avatar f tn I have been hypo for many years and was on Armour during most of those years. Several months ago I was having horrible anxiety (worse in the morning) heart palpitations, sweating, exhaustion by late afternoon and not sleeping well at night. My family doc said he thought my T3 was too high (he didn't do bloodwork) and promptly put me on a comparable dose of levo. I've had 2 blood draws and three medication changes and I know that it is still not right.
535882 tn?1396576685 I would switch to compounded dessicated. My daughter (no thyroid gland) was on Armour and had been doing great! (blood work and symptoms) Then we refilled and got the new formulation (same dose and pharmacy). T4 dropped and joint and body aches with fatigue suddenly! (within a week) Switched her to Nature-Throid, 2 months ago, and she is doing much better. Takes a while for Hypo.symptoms to deminish. She's also on 1 grain more of the Naturethroid,as the conversion chart seemed too modest.
1646889 tn?1301481228 I've taken dessicated 3 times per day for a year so far 120mg/day, with good results. I split the 60's up. 1) 6:30 AM, 60mg on empty stomach, food 45 min after 2) 11:00 AM, 30mg , lunch at 12 3) 3:30 - 4:30 PM, 30mg I use the Erfa brand and can take sublingually if I need to if I snacked to close to dosing. Erfa is the same potency taken either way. Armour since reformulation in '09 is not as potent taken sublingualy as swallowed.
Avatar f tn Different people have different responses to the different desiccated meds, like Armour and NatureThroid. There are subtle differences between them, and you really have to try them for yourself and see which is best for you. The active ingredients in both are very similar. You've only been on Armour a short time, and the initial dose is seldom the dose we end up on. Most doctors retest in about 4-6 weeks, then make dosage adjustments.
Avatar f tn You should talk to your dr about trying another type of NDT. After the reformulation of Armour in 2010 a LOT of patients began having to up their dose because they felt the absorption had decreased. When they switched many were able to lower their dose because they were actually absorbing it better. I've been on both old Armour, new Armour and now Erfa and personally was really upset when they reformulated Armour because it did "feel" different.
Avatar f tn s very hard for us in Sweden to get hold of armour thyroid or erfa from the States nor Canada. So I have to make my desicions wisely. When I took Armour Thyroid (The new Armour Thyroid) I felt "foggy" all the time and I lost hair rapidly. I quit the treatment and am now thinking about switching to either nature thyroid or Erfa. I don't know which one's better. Appreciate answers from every single person. Blessings from Sweden.
Avatar n tn I have taken taken thyroid medication for 25 years and have been on 1.75 grains of Armour thyroid for a number of years. Recently it's effectiveness for me declined. According to my Allergist and lab results (a high Antithyroglobulin Ab and my nutritionist, but negative Thyroid Peroxidase Ab; TSH 0.9), I could be producing antibodies to the natural thyroid so he suggested a switch to Synthroid and Cytomel. At the time I was also showing some signs of too much thyroid medication.
Avatar f tn d jump to the adrenals right at the moment, especially since you had done so well before the Armour reformulation. I think your levels will come up with proper meds.
