Aldara and flat warts

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara and flat warts

aldara

Avatar n tn Hello, I have also suffered with flat warts for almost 3 years now, and I know the pain you and especially you daughter feel. After trying various treatments, nothing seemed to be working at least not permanently. One thing that reduced the appearance of the flat warts was retinol cream at a strength of .05 but it is extremely drying to the skin and is very harsh especially on skin that is not used to it. I also was told to try aldara to no effect.
Avatar n tn Warts do have various classifications and treatment varies depending on the type of wart. Flat warts may be treated using liquid nitrogen therapy and topical retinoic acid gel may also be helpful. However, it is important to note that these medications may be abrasive and they have their side effects. Never apply any cream or medications on the affected area without informing your physician about this. There is really no single effective medication for warts.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed aldara for the treatment of genital warts about two weeks ago and have used it as directed by my provider. The patch of lesions is located on the shaft of my penis, are small, relatively flat, and 1-2 cm in size. I started aldara therapy roughly two to three weeks after onset of lesions. My only concern is that the Aldera isn't triggering an immune response like it should. I have no erythema, edema or any other typical "side effects".
Avatar m tn you need to be seen and get a proper exam. we'd totally be guessing as to what is going on. could this be something non-hpv related? indeed it could be which is why you should've sought out exam first and not self treated. At this point I'd stop the aldara and wait a full month before being seen so that any irritation and skin changes from the aldara have dissipated. You don't want to get a wrong diagnosis due to the changes that occur with its use.
Avatar m tn I just started Aldara, two weeks ago and it's going slow for me. Though I only have two warts and one is the first one I ever had, which after 4 acid treatments is still there so it may by scar tissue rather than a live wart at this time. The other is only 2 weeks old and really has not changed at all. So, I can't say how you will react to Aldara, I have read some people have warts gone quickly and some it takes a while. I am just happy not to have any new ones.
Avatar n tn I am 25 years old, I am suffering since I was 17 years old of flat warts (approx. 18 wart) on my right cheek. I have been into the Derm. several times and tried many treatments such as two boxes (24 sachets) of (Aldara 5% Cream) using it on MWF with no improvments. I also tried Locacid Solution and sometimes electirc burning, drinking Zinc,etc.. and there was no improvments as well.. An advice would be highly appreciated!
Avatar n tn Welcome to the Forum. Aldara tends to work best in warts which have recently appeared and it's activity is, at least in part, correlated with the reaction that it generates. If you have been using Aldara for 4 weeks with no effect and little local reaction, it is time to try something else such as freezing with liquid nitrogen. In answer to your specific questions however: 1. No, the location has little to do with response.
Avatar f tn After a whole week of having this constant itch and burn and continuing to use the Aldara I went back to my Dr. He scared me so bad because he sai "these aren't the bumps you had before, how old is your boyfriend and do you only have sex with him?" I answered yes and that I knew. He did a culture and a blood test and told me to call him in a week because it looks like I have herpes. I started crying on the spot. He prescribed me Herpes meds a cream and pills.
Avatar n tn Last time I had warts my doctor gave me an RX for Aldara and that did work, it took about a week and a half and caused the warts to become smoother and smoother until they were flat and then nothing but a reddish spot and then gone.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Aldara (imiquimod) to get rid of a few perianal HPV warts since cryotherapy was only making it worse. After only about 2 weeks of usage almost all symptoms of the warts were gone however I now have perianal psoriasis in its place. That is one of the side-effects of imiquimod and it mainly strikes people whom are genetically prone to having psoriasis.
Avatar m tn t sure whether or not it was actually a recurrence or just scar tissue from previously removed warts. He looked at them and said he believed they were in fact warts and proposed Aldara to treat them. He also claimed that I could have recurrences for the rest of my life and made other statements based on facts, that having frequented this forum as well as the ask an expert forum, I know to be outdated info or flat out myths.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply Dr. Hook, it is greatly appreciated in knowing that even without treatment within two plus years it will be resolved. Even better to hear that my treatments will lower the 2 year mark. I have tried to be very responsible and take all the necessary precautions to accelerate this healing process and not interact and potentially pass on the warts.
535760 tn?1213891166 Not wanting to experience this again i would like to try another option because i still have a few tiny warts left and noticed a couple new ones. Is aldara the best way to go? or maybe even cryo? I read aldara is very effective and even builds an immunity?
Avatar m tn Hi thanks for your replies. Part of the problem is I've seen many doctors and nurses. Some have said warts some have said not. Last visit was about 4 weeks ago because a smooth small raised area had appeared just under the ridge of my penis. It didn't seem to be on the surface like the pictures of warts are. The nurse looked at it said it's not a wart as it's not gritty like warts are and to just leave it.
Avatar m tn and after 2 weeks use i have had good results so far so if i were you i would go see your dermatologist if he recomends surgery set the date for about 1 1/2 months away and get them to prescribe you aldara in the meantime. use aldara and within 4 weeks if the warts have not reduced in size or started to clear then just go in for surgery.
Avatar m tn t look like anything i saw in pictures for genital warts because it is really thin and flat and not cauliflower shaped. The nurse told me about treatments and recommended and aldara type cream she said it was the best way to boost my immune system. So i went to a urologist and got a second opinion. unfortunately with my luck the doctor didn't give me a good diagnosis and just said it could be a wart and the red dots could be a yeast infection.
Avatar m tn aldara is to be applied on the warts only and not the surrounding area... did a doctor diagnose you for genital warts and prescribed Aldara for you? If not so, please see a dermatologist and first get a correct diagnoses and talk to him about application of this cream... a mild irritation, soreness and itching is part of the healing process with this cream... you should apply petrolium jelly (vaseline) or some other moisturizer to help your pain relief and...
Avatar m tn According to my experience...flat warts and abnormal cells can be verrry tricky.. Even gp or urologist or dermatologist could missed it sometimes..thats why we hv the term differential diagnosis...precancerous cells are usually elusive In women...sometimes pap smear give ASCUS result...abnormal cells of unknown significance...and this is done by microscope examination of the swab as i know If you dont do pcr hpv test...or biopsy..then eyeballing is only an approximation...
Avatar n tn Hi. I used Aldara for two weeks and my warts went away. I didn't have to scratch or scrape. I don't think you should puncture them at all. The cream caused some severe skin reactions for me (and it was on my bum :( ) so I stopped using it two weeks in for about a week and then when I went to start applying the cream again the warts were gone.
Avatar m tn I am now using Aldara and it is slower. You can also see if there is a clinic in your area that treats for HPV/warts and be checked there.
Avatar f tn My 9 year old daughter has flat warts on her knee, face and a couple on her hands. I haven't been able to find any decent information on it anywhere and it seems that I'm not the only one looking. As well, I lived with having about 8 of them on my knee for about 15 years and they finally went away from me doing one simple thing that wasn't even intended for that purpose. I began eating dried apricots (8 or 9 a day before bed) for other health reasons.
Avatar m tn Hi I've been using Aldara for 3 applications now for what I believe are genital warts under my foreskin just below the ridge, they are only small. Up to now nothing has happened, no reaction, no itching no reddening of area nothing at all. I was expecting some sort of reaction or change with it being such a strong medicine. Is this normal?
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a male, 26yrs old. Can anyone describe their experiences with Imiquimod? I am on the 3.75% cream which my doctor has told me to use every other day for a month. In the first 2 weeks, nothing happened, only just a couple days ago I noticed a very slight indication that the medication might be working, but I'm still not sure. I have about 20-30 very small warts, and notice 2 or 3 of them showing a bit of redness and drying up a bit.
Avatar m tn I have been treating anal warts for 8 weeks with aldara and after about 6 weeks i noticed they were slowly shrinking. While the visible warts are indeed shrinking (almost gone entirely), i know that there are internal ones in my anus that are still there, whether or not the aldara is helping them is undetermined.
Avatar m tn There is no raised growth, rather looks flat. There are some smaller dots around the glans as well. And i think a new one is also forming. I am scared it could be cancer or turn into cancer. If they are just warts and were raised, i would get them treated but they look like they are in the skin, rather on the skin or under the skin.
Avatar f tn However when I was first diagnosed with genital warts I used aldara for them and never experienced outbreaks like I do today. I would experience outbreaks probably once a year and they would go away without treatments and then no more for about a few years. I'm not sure why I am experiencing outbreaks so frequently. Maybe because I get a little stressed at times hpv tends to affect the immune system when it's weak and stress is a factor right.
Avatar n tn I noticed a small flat slightly raised area on the lower anterior shaft of my partners penis resembling an irregular dark mole ( as seen african americans) We had it dx and was told it was a genital warts. I requested a biopsy and result was Condyloma Acuminata ( ngenital wart) But when it was tested for HPV after the biopsy it was tested Negative for HPV. Derm said not to use the aldara and to freeze it off instead. How can it be Genital Wart WITHOUT HPV on biopsy? Please help.
